    Well done, Leo, leading people through a significant move like this, outlining the critical steps and actions is vital to guide people to confidently use a password manager. Once again, thank you.

    Thanks Leo. It's amzing that I got 1password on the recommendation of another publisher. Until your video I was having trouble getting it to work. Your video is the first to make it obvious that a browser version needs to be downloaded, too.

    I have your explanation of the description & installation very helpful. Your slower pace of instruction is most beneficial for new users like me. Thanks Bill B.

    Leo, could you do a video on how to transfer or backup your mobile phone data (including text messages) to your PC, please. Thanks

      This varies dramatically based on your carrier and ecosystem (iPhone vs. Android). I think iPhone does it pretty much automatically to iCloud (could be wrong, I don't use iPhone), and Android ... you need to piece it together. However often your carrier will have tools already installed.

    Are you saying that you let Edge save your master password for your Password Manager? Isn't one of the reasons for password managers to keep hackers away from browser-saved passwords?

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never let browsers save any passwords.

    Morning Leo . I need more help in changing from Lastpass to 1password, I signed up to 1password following your "setting up" video but find myself confused in how to actually use it. I'll turn 74 yr.old tomorrow so be kind. I'm trying to change all my passwords that I imported from lastpass to new ones in 1password and find myself going in circles. Where can I get step by step help in doing this? I've been donating to your channel and really enjoy your content. I'm just lost on this 1password project. Thanks much, Thomas

    Very good video, and good timing...
    Seven items:
    1)
    @7:57 -- That form included an e-mail address.
    What purpose does that e-mail address serve?
    I am asking, because what happens if you change your e-mail address, and lose access to the e-mail address you have in the 1password pdf file?
    Is there any verification code sent to that e-mail address? (aside from the initial set-up). If so, under what conditions will 1password use that e-mail address.
    Can you direct 1password to a new e-mail address?
    2)
    Do you have to enter your master password each time you start up your browser? Or is it just one time, and then forever, thereafter, your browser has your master password ready for using your vault for all of your passwords?
    I am asking, because if you never have to enter your master password again, then if you lose your laptop, or someone gains access to your machine, etc, then your browser will give the assailant unfettered access to all of the sites that you use.
    Will closing your browser trigger 1password to ask for your master password upon your next browser session?
    3)
    Where is the master, encrypted database of your passwords saved?
    Only on 1password's servers?
    Only on your computer (if so, where)?
    On both 1password's servers and on your computer?
    Is it a single file, or multiple files?
    Item #4 is why I am asking.
    4)
    I use KeePass.
    If I screw it up, I have a copy of its encrypted .kdbx database file. It is simplistic to make copies and to restore from a copy.
    I am asking, because a friend of mine wants to start using a password manager, but KeePass is not to his liking (sharing the database across multiple devices, including smart phones, is not a KeePass feature).
    1password seems to check all of the "feature" boxes he is seeking in a password manager. So I want to advise him on how to make a copy of his 1password datase file(s).
    5)
    When using 1password across multiple devices, how does a new password get populated to your other devices?
    Does the 1password program detect a new entry (or a change to an entry), and automatically distribute the new database entries to the other devices? Or is it a manual process (or an option to be automatic or manual, by way of a setting that the user chooses)?
    6)
    Do you need an internet connection for 1password to provide you with your passwords?
    For example, with KeePass:
    I save my insurance information with KeePass, including my policy numbers, and phone numbers, etc.
    If I need to call my insurance company, but I have no internet access, will 1password show me my vault's information?
    And does 1password allow you to save non-login data? KeePass allows me to save typed text as comments, as well as documents in its database. Does 1password allow for that?
    7)
    Lastly, I recently saw a video where a Kali Linux user was able to see all of the passwords saved in Google's Chrome browser. But it was the standard browser's feature, and not a password manager browser extension. I hope that the 1password browser extension is more robust, security wise, compared to how a browser saves passwords.
    The title of that video is:
    "Hackers EASILY see your password!"
    on channel "Liron Segev".
    The relevant "browser" part starts at the 7:03 time mark (although the entire video is informative).
    Cheers!

    Is there a password manager that will import my videos from LP due to me having about an hundred and to save them from LP and install individually again in a new manager is a pain.

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Videos? Importing videos doesn't make sense in this context, so I'm not sure what you're asking. Most password managers have import functions to import accounts and passwords. I moved one user from LastPass to 1Password by exporting from LastPass and importing to 1Password.

    • @perrysrc
      @perrysrc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@askleonotenboom sorry I meant attachments not videos. I am also a LP user and have 100+ attachments on secure notes but you cannot export/import these to another password manager without saving them individually to your desktop and importing to a new password manager. This is what’s putting me off leaving LP. Is there anyway these attachments can be exported automatically. My Lastpass password was 24 characters long (unique) so I presume I am pretty safe anyway.

      Pretty sure the answer is "no" to both of your questions. 1Password is a paid subscription only service so they need a credit card. However, I had a paid LastPass account and 1Password gave me a full credit for the remaining time left on my LastPass account which was nice. You must also create an account because 1Password is "cloud-based" and needs that information in order to recognize you. Hope that helps!
