    Have been using 1PW for 11 years and agree that it is fantastic. I’ve used other similar tools at work, but 1PW is the most reliable. Not even made about the subscription

    Here’s something funny, I once told a Mac Genius (in an Apple Store) that I used 1Password and he said, that’s not a good idea, you should have more than 1.
    He’d never heard of 1Password!!! Genius, I don’t think so. Like your standing desk.

    Happy 1password user myself - good video. I especially enjoyed your putting the trolls in their place (in a fairly nice way) at the beginning. :)

    Hi Mark, The only reason i haven't shifted to 1password from keychain is that keychain fills your password only when using touchID whereas 1password auto-fills it every time you open a website for which it is saved.
    e.g if I log out of my Facebook account and give my laptop to my brother to use, in keychain he will not be able to login to my FB in the same browser without my fingerprint, whereas in 1password its already auto-filled and he just has to press login to enter my FB, in 1passowrd its pre-authorized if it makes sense, wheres in keychain you autofill only by using touchID. Does 1password have any setting which makes it same as Keychain

    The bottom line question is why should I pay for a password manager as non power user when keychain is free?

    • @MarkEllisReviews
      @MarkEllisReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In your case, Jim, you probably shouldn't! I think, over time, you may yearn for more functionality, in which case it makes sense to look at what the likes of 1Password could do for you.

    Fantastic video. Your point of view and delivery is something I value and appreciate. One note for you on your podcast. I really enjoy listening to you and Rob, but sometimes you have a guest who is not using a quality microphone and that person can sound “tinny” and I end up having to stop the podcast. I don’t think the show is better with guests but if you do have them you may consider asking them in advance about their setup. All the best to you!

    • @MarkEllisReviews
      @MarkEllisReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for such lovely comments! And yes, that is a challenge with having guests on the podcast (although it isn’t their fault). Rob and I take great pride in our audio which is why there’s often such a gulf in quality. In reality, though, ensuring top notch audio from a remote guest is challenging and, as always, I believe it’s the content that matters. I’d argue that some of the guest episodes we’ve had have been the best - I’d hate for you to miss out on them 😉

    I am leaning towards 1Password. But, I can't find an answer to this question: what happens when I am not home. My work requires that I use their computer/s every day. How can I use 1Password on a "foreign" computer?

    Thanks....making the switch to 1P 8. But my one criticism is that 1P only offers email support......with no phone support. I had a problem that took 18 email exchanges and about 2 weeks to resolve.....that probably could have been handled in a 10 minute phone call with screen sharing. I dread the day that I have a 1P hack or breach and desperately need support to help me stave off disaster.

    How do you setup 1Password on a MacBook laptop to unlock with an iWatch? There’s no iWatch icon on the 1Password unlock dialog box.

    1Password 8 = double the resources (memory), search is broken, no default vault option. v8 is a major downgrade and shouldnt be released as final. If its not contain all the same options of v7 then why Agilebits release it?

    • @aidanbazan7769
      @aidanbazan7769 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It uses 60 MB of ram…. Hardly a deal breaker. Search also works fine for me.

    • @bdkinnh1466
      @bdkinnh1466 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not double the resources - it's actually about triple. The main app may be around 60-80 MB, but add in all the mandatory helpers, renderers, and extensions, and memory is gobbled up.

    • @aidanbazan7769

      @@aidanbazan7769 I never said anything about how much memory just the helper uses. Did you check the renderers and extensions that 1PW needs to run? You might want to do that. Add them all up, and 1PW 8 uses a lot more memory than v7 does, which is something the developer acknowledges as well.

    Great video! I recently switched from LastPass to 1Password. I just got tired of seeing/hearing videos and podcasts about the LastPass hack. From a usability standpoint in 2023 I judge them to be equivalent, which is a good thing since LastPass was very easy to use. I only have two gripes. The 1Password app on my iPad crashes 100% of the time when using Watchtower. I submitted a ticket about this , they know about it " "and will filx it real soon.." The other gripe is in order to generate a new password for a website that you have never before encountered, you have to go to the web for 1Password to generate a secure password. It was much easier to do this on LastPass , just right click to do this. I really miss this feature and wish that 1Password had an equivalent.

      The new password generation hurdle is one reason why I haven't made the jump to 1Password yet.

      You wrote
      "In some industries, possibly. But they just help me put food on the table for my family and get paid for t..." I can't see the rest.
      Sure, and I don't have a problem with that in and as of itself.
      Indeed,I enjoy your channel.
      No,it's just the subscription model as a whole that's become ubiquitous in the past few years that niggles.
      Subs for this,subs for that,subs for everything. Add them all up and all those drips well,you get the picture I'm sure. Personally,if it's not absolutely necessary I'd rather use the subscription money to pay directly for food and\or in my case art materials.
      For now at least I still use Photoshop 6 occasionally on an ancient Mac Pro from 2009 and other software on an old G4.
      It does what I need for now.
      Stopped at 6 when Adobe brought in that milking machine. Moooo thanks!
