    Actually, I wouldn't mind living in a small apartment like that. I'm usually by myself so it would be a nice small home.

    This is really neat! I just moved out of a tiny upstate ny studio (smaller than what is shown here) and it was $600 a month! So small the shower wasn't even in the bathroom, I could cook and shower at the same time I I wanted to. Glad I moved!

    Congratulations! In my country you invite someone for dinner to celebrate your new place. It could be your friends or SO, and it will bring you luck. Mirrors will make your space appear larger and will reflect light from that huge window too! Same in the bathroom.

      Nice! That reminds me of a tradition here in Singapore, where companies buy other companies bouquets of flowers to celebrate the opening of an office or retail location.

    The one thing that japan definitely does better than anywhere else is simplicity. They basically make these 1 bedroom places with as little of everything as possible whilst still keeping it livable. Of course these aren't the kind of things people want to live in but they're so good for people on tight budgets who just want somewhere where they can just crash. Of course the drawbacks are that you can't live with other people and that some may find it claustrophobic and may struggle to fit everything they want in the apartment but overall they're so nice(just wish they were a thing elsewhere(other than university accommodation :P))

      It isn't terrible, I mean you can get 3 bedroom houses for cheaper than that in Aus, but comparing these differences without taking exchange rates and economics in general into consideration is just redundant. Things are different in other countries, I'd still rather live in Tokyo.

      Xhere是亜論月 Rongestzu I'd agree if it wasn't so small. $570 in every single apartment complex in my area can give you something 3x that size, and in some places a 2 bedroom.

    Nice! I used to dream of living in a tiny apartment (but that was in my late childhood to early teenage years), but later, I started dreaming of living in some kind of rural area.
    I'm assuming that you would continue to go back to your previous place to move stuff over.

    I remember when we went apartment hunting in Japan. We were moving from a guest house to a real place and some of them were just tiny. Found a really nice place in Shinagawa through UR. It was a 2DLK. For those not in the know this is a 2 bedroom with a Dining room, Living room and Kitchen. And the living room had a set of sliding doors on it which could be closed off to turn it into another bedroom if necessary. It was about 136K yen a month but between the two of us it was more than affordable based on what we were making.
    Appliances were gotten at Donki, managed to get a few cheap because they were floor models and we found a really nice dining room set at a second hand shop.

      フッ化 is the word for fluorination in Japan, plenty of toothpaste has it. クリアクリーン brand has it as "フッ化ナトリウム" Sodium Fluoride. I don't know why it's difficult to find in Japan. クリアクリーン is everywhere.

    thanks for this, the rent in rands zar would be 7775.09, the apartment is really for skinny people :) those are a lot of things that the backpack can hold, i would carry just the macbook have a dual boot os setup either bootcamp or win2go via external ssd (instead of using gpd pocket), and have ankher battery pack with sufficient ports to charge the rest of the devices without having to have separate charging bricks.
    You could illuminate the apartment through the camera flash light or purchase candles unless there are regulations to not allow candles in the apartment, if you have a bedsheet you could use it as a temporary curtain with some hooks or pegs to keep it attached or some string knotted through or just wrapping curtains or some elastic band
    thanks for the vid :) it was really interesting to see :)

    :( new york sucks ass. Similiar wage rates as everywhere else but the realestate prices are significantly higher. 1200 a month in new york can get you a piece of sh it apartment, somewhere else thats a mansion.
    Hopefully someday i can afford a place of my own...

      PaulsGoldWeapons In glad I love in Houston. 1,200 a month gets you a very nice place in a good neighborhood. We're lucky here in Texas.

      St Louis isnt too bad, still not great. I live in the Burbs but its still at least 500 a month just to get a basic apartment in a complex maybe 2 bedroom 1 bath. Roomy places at least, for an apartment. Lucky for us theres not much city in Missouri, I plan on moving about 30 min out, depends on my pay in a couple years.

    • @madedharma1738
      @madedharma1738 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For 1,200 you can get a whole decent house for 2-3 rooms with a garden, front yard and/or a backyard here in my city in Indonesia. And that’s for one year rent price, not per month.

    • @bmona7550
      @bmona7550 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PaulsGoldWeapons Move out man! My fam moved out of that city after 9 years of paying for rising rents and moving from one apartment to another. I know it's hard to move out a great city like that but just move out! There's better cities out there than NY! Plus, property elsewhere is CHEAAAP (except California)

    It is cheap, one 18 m2 room in shared apartment in subsidized student dorm in Hamburg is almost 400€, but there are also some 12 m2 for 250€, with one kitchen of like 25 student

    At least the apartment layout is good.
    In my country, the layout is awkward, though the rent is around $150 USD. For 500 USD, I'd get a 3 bedroom hall kitchen apartment at a good location.

    In downtown San Diego, CA, US, a studio this size would cost at least $1000-1200 monthly to rent. So I don't really understand when people say living in Japan is expensive

    Very cool! When I was a young adult, and lived in both NYC and also L.A., I would have been SO happy with a clean modern space like that. $575 USD a month? In NYC a tiny place like that would cost _at least_ $1500. That sounds really cheap. Enjoy your new place and thanks for this video!

    Seems so weird that fluoride toothpaste isn't common in Japan, it's something people in the West take for granted. What toothpaste do they use then to brush their teeth with?

    • @NihongoGamer
      @NihongoGamer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      not sure exactly. I think they just push a lot of 'whitening' toothpastes

    • @ntrDRUMMER

      don't u need whitening toothpaste? y'know, coffee drinker and such

    • @amduser86
      @amduser86 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      fouride toothpaste isn't actually healthy at all. floride does nothing good for your teeth and accumulates in your bodies bone structure. it does not coat or interact with your teath at all in your mouth. fluridized water in the u.s. is actually a cheap way to get rid of toxic waste. pretty much the first think you learn, when studing chemistry ...

    • @NihongoGamer
      @NihongoGamer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      interesting information about fluoride! I'll look into it more

    • @Ownedhardtime
      @Ownedhardtime 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      amduser86 Go read up when flouride toothpaste was introduced in the west and how dramatically the rate of caries related toothproblems changed. In Japan several toothpastes contain fluoride, but many/most don't. And if you knew anything about japanese dental care you would know that tooth decay in Japan is higher than in the western world.
