Glad you survived. It's always crazy when you're sitting in your home thinking 'yeah, if I had to move it would be super easy, just throw everything in a couple of boxes, it'll be fine.' Then you actually start boxing and every cupboard has a portal at the back that leads through to that junk yard in Labyrinth, and your bookshelf turns into the National Library, and you have three more cats than you thought you owned... moving is always awful. But hopefully the new place is totally worth it.
This comment's made me laugh you know XD. Because it's really so true "Oh just a couple boxes, bit of luggage and I'll be fine", then the sweater you haven't seen since before TH-cam was a thing decides now is the perfect time to be found
The last time I moved I only had one box left and it was a tall box and I put my library in it. I felt so bad for the movers. I have now lived in my home 20+ yrs and it would be a lot more work
Can you imagine, thinking you have a respectable job at a housing agency, but then getting assigned the task to screen the potential tenants social media for hamsters and tattoos o_o
I’m honestly so incredibly impressed you managed to pull all this off. I’m only 13:25 minutes into the video and I’m like “FFFFFFF THAT.” I’d be so overwhelmed and just full on quit and move back home. Well done.
Emmaaaaaa it doesn't matter how often you upload to youtube honestly, I'm just glad you do it whenever because you're SO GOOD AT IT. The editing, your humor and storytelling are so top tier!! The recreating of the office with the rap was so excellent lmao... so surreal. Needing waaaay more boxes than you think and taking apart furniture in unhinged ways due to exhausted brains is so very accurate for the moving experience lol. I'm glad the movers kindly agreed to move your giant plant over as is and you wrapped it up so well for moving... it would have been so sad to have to chop it down so much as the company initially suggested. Thanks as always for your hard work, and for documenting the details and craziness of the move! ✨
I'm so impressed with you making all of those phonecalls in Japanese by yourself. I can manage some calls, but sometimes the vocab gets beyond me and I have to ask them to repeat themselves many times while I look up the word they said 😅
Sorry Emma I had to laugh at how you took down that shelf 😅 Man I've been there. So tired/stressed that brain ain't braining. Glad you're more settled now! (My jaw dropped at the van hire costs omg)
I moved house just over a year ago in the UK and it cost me just under a £1000 which is quite close to 166000 Yen. All the padding they put up as well for protection I didn't get any of that included either.
Emma, this is one hell of a video. I love the authenticity and your energy when you start the video and your little skits. That rap consultation was hilarious.
Moving house is such a trip... It always starts out by packing boxes neatly in an organized way. By the end, it turns into a free for all, chucking the odds and ends that are left into whatever box. lol. I hate moving. 😁 Thank you for the video! Your storytelling is so cute!
The fact that a tenant installs AC for their place and they aren't extremely grateful and absolutely wanting to keep them for the next tenant is WILD to me!!! How strange! Glad you're back - hope you have a happy holiday.
Same. as an hvac technician, the usual costs of that boggles my mind. But also not to leave it as an attractive thing for your property. The only thing i can think of is if it is installed i guess that would make the owner responsible for service done on it.
Honestly I would be completely removing MY ac units because there was no mention of the landlord offering any consideration for improving their property??? "Yeah I'll keep one for free thanks but you can still pay to remove the other one" hahahah really??
Its about how these companies value every clients preferences. They deemed one of her aircons as a nuisance to keep around and maintain. The one they did decide to keep must have been a nice one. The next tenant may or may not care so I suppose I can see the company's perspective being they want to ensure the next tenant gets a blank canvas that they can make their own
Wait until you hear that here in Germany it can be customary that rental places come without kitchen and you have to buy or move your kitchen. I thankfully never lived in a place like that, but it can be common and I think it's ridiculous.
Me and my friends always laugh about how they don’t know how to choose music that matches the vibe like we’ll be chilling at a cafe and then WAP starts playing 😂
The lady on the moving company call spoke so much clearer and slower than most Japanese phone calls I've had to take! Japanese on the phone is still my absolute kryptonite.
Holy cow. In the US, we moved the contents of a three bedroom(1360 square foot) home from Pennsylvania to Florida, which is 953 miles for under $5000 USD. You have my sympathy. Your cost was insane!
I am an established home owner in the US with a mortgage and 0 intentions of moving, but you bet your behind I sat here and watched this whole video intently. Moving sucks everywhere but it’s so much harder than it needs to be in Japan! What kind of hateful person even thinks about REMOVING an AC?! With those Tokyo summers?! Absolutely not.
Sorry the process has been such a pain. Happy to see a new Emma video still! I last visited in Japan in August and the sort of passive-aggressive annoyance with foreigners is always my least favorite part of visiting Japan.
Omg Emma, please do like 4 sponsorships, that is so much money. Video was super informative. 👍 It was interesting to hear how polite the moving company was, triple checking as they charged you. "Are you sure you're sure?" The rap reenactment was great too. 🔥 I imagined the owners of your current place being of two minds. Owner one: I don't like foreigners! They never do their trash right! The only thing I like about them is this bangin' rap music. The rest of these foreigners are such a pain! Owner two: Yes, but they have money! And if this one is willing to jump through the hoops we give her, it will PROVE that she has money! And we need a renter. If we miss out on this one, we might have to wait a year for someone new. Owner one: Wow, she is actually doing this. Owner two: I kind of feel bad. Lets update the toilet at least.
Emma has come a long way ever since her 8x2 m apartment tour. Fun Fact that video is still the 2nd most watched video on the Living Big In a Tiny House channel
Good to see you back Emma, crazy to hear about all the stuff going on lately. You are incredibly strong and persevere so much! Best wishes to you in the new apartment and happy holidays!
I’ve been with you through several moves now and you always make the process interesting. Moving is certainly never boring! Happy for you in your new apartment. 😊 Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄
All these move-in shenanigans is partly why I thought twice about moving to Japan. I'd love to live there, but renting seems like it's out of the question. It might just be easier to get a house at that point. Grats on surviving the move!
So on your little plant, that looked like what we call a Mud Daubber(spelt phonetically cause i dont know which way its spelled). Basically its a type of wasp thats less aggresive and they build their nests out of mud that they find and plop it together like a little mud home. Usually by the tie you see it its been used for their eggs and they have moved on, thats why you'd see shells and some occasional molting inside when you break them off.
My partner and I moved earlier this year and it was effing stressful... doing it alone is hard to fathom. Glad the new place is worth the hassle! The first few months after a move are so nice, when you keep thinking "ahhhh, I'm here and it is so nice!"
So happy to have you back on TH-cam! 😇 The process of moving in Japan sounds awful and crazy expensive... but I am happy that you are happy with the new appartement and area! Cant wait for the tour! And how much did I miss the adorable and funny style of your videos! 😂 Happy holidays!
How I saved money my recent move: - renting privately from an acquaintance (from and to) - stealing boxes from the grocery store (bought a small pack in the end because it was annoying) - borrowing a friend's mini truck (50km distance. Took a few trips) - new house had a washing machine and fridge so I gave away my previous ones Cost: my time and effort 😅
While I've never lived in Japan, I've done lots of moves (for both myself and helping others) and it's an adventure every time. Good on ya Emma for surviving another apartment hunt!
I was just binge watching Chris's content and got to him talking about your section of the abroad in Japan trip. Which reminded me about your channel and Tokyo creative which was how I Chris's channel to begin with! So glad you are well and you are back. Sorry you had to go through such a stressful process but hope everything is good and smooth sailing from now on. Hope to see more of your content again, take care Emma. Wishing you all the best and hoping youtube can help recuperate some of the moving fees.
You look very pretty and healthy, and the move (and surgery) have been successful. Talking about jumping through hoops, although moving is a hassle in the US, Japan is taking it to a new level.
I was actually thinking about how I haven’t seen a video of yours in a while the other day ! Good to see you uploading again. And yes moving suuuuuuuucks !
Dear Emma, I am so happy that you are happy with the new apartment! I only moved once in my life so far and can still remember all the stress that went with it, so, yeah girl, I understand COMPLETELY. So great that you uploaded a new video, I missed you a lot 🤗 I've been in Japan this year and fell completely in love, nothing can deter me from moving here as soon as an oportunity knocks 🤪I wish you all the best and am looking forward to your next videos!
I'm happy you got to move where you wanted Emma! I remember your other video about the stairs and the cicada noise, length of travel outside the city, yikes! It was too much, great decision for you!! Happy holidays and enjoy your new barrio aka neighborhood, and apartment! 😊
I am glad you are feeling better, were abled to go home and found a wonderful new apartment. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday's Love and Well Wishes in the New Year from Michigan!
Welcome back you have been missed.. more than you can imagine so no more "I'm in a funk OK" altho I did love those old vids in your kitchen just cooking and a chattin
Gosh Emma, I remember when you moved into this place, and that whole process of apartment hunting, and how you loved this one. (tear in eye), you're growing up, time passes fast, all the other applicable thoughts. Hope you have fully recovered from kidney stone and all that other crap
I'm so glad the new apartment worked out after such a stressful journey. Congratulations! The air con issue alone was insane, let alone everything else.
this is so relatable - I just did a move from New York to Sydney, sorted everything out in a month before heading home in Asia to rest, had a similar LONG LIST on my phone, battled with NY landlord, was sick throughout... really felt like a fever dream when I finally got on that plane home - but so excited for Australia!
Man oh man you have had one hell of a last half of this year. With breaking your foot and then moving. I'm glad to know that everything is well even if it was stressful. Looking forward to the new apartment tour!
Like, I know you wouldn't, given the power stuff at play, but the temptation to send them the wikipedia article for hamsters, with the lifespan section highlighted.
What a wild experience. Thank you for being so open about how insane it is to move in Japan, especially as a foreigner. I remember your first apartment that was super tiny and narrow with the loft. This is such an improvement.
We JUST finished a crazy move right after our first visit to Japan and butting into the holiday season... I can't imagine filming any it with all the chaos going on around you. Thank you for the video! I hope you can take it easy and just enjoy the new place now. :)
Congratulations on the new apartment!! It is so worth all the hassle to live somewhere you love. Those moving fees are terrible but the monthly rent is very reasonable. Though that is with the current exchange rate which is obviously not great for the yen right now. Excited for the proper apartment tour :)
I'm so sorry you had to go through all that crap I honestly couldn't believe it 😭🙈 Glad you made it through and were able to move!! congrats on the new place! ✨️✨️
Just yesterday i watched some of your old videos and i was hoping for you to return soon. And here you are! Really happy to see you again Emma :) And glad it was all worth it moving! I guess i would just have gone back to Germany instead of going through this ordeal^^
Great vid! Love the insights. I knew there were difficulties with moving apartments in Japan but had no idea the depth of the challenges! You did it tho! So cool. 😎🙌
Emma I missed u girl I’m so happy to see you’re back!! Hope your time away was fulfilling despite being so busy!! (And despite the unexpected hospital visit) Sending u love ❤️
List before moving away reminds me of checking list when flying captain checks before plane is taking off! It also reminds me of list what is it like when you move away from your summer cabin.. but the list is smaller. But of course, when some of these things are communicated in Japanese, it is task of its own. There was a lot of knowledge and experience gathered to this one video. Moving is never easy.
phew, u have been super busy., i can imagine the stress & disappointment you must have felt.Missed ur face! Congrats on the move..Hope you've settled in well. And i wish you a wonderful Christmas Emma ☺
So glad you have a nice new place. Sounds like it was a super hectic stressful time. I hope your new community is awesome and that you feel part of the place! That elevator must be great on work travel days eh?!
that person that messaged you to tell you how privileged you are just comes off as very jealous imo. It sounds like one of those people that just goes around bringing people down every time they try to share their success or events that are going on in their lives. "Oh I went to Mc Donald's the other day and ... " "Children in Africa are starving, you should be grateful for having food!" "But I w..." "Some people don't even have 10 dollars a week for groceries!" Insufferable. I am glad you are settled down now, and I hope you don't get any more kidney stones. Those suck
Yesss Emma lets goooo! Moving is tough but you are TOUGHER! New place main character arc begins! Ps: the music at the end sounded so stardew valley like lol
I did a silly thing and put my ficus tree on the back of the pick up truck and moved across town and by the time it got off the highway, It was missing a good portion of the top part. But the bonus was it grew out and not up for a while, so it looks really good.
Pro-tip when moving in Japan, when getting a moving company, it is good to get estimates from multiple companies that will all try to bid against each other. We are moving within Saitama next month and contacted about 8 different moving companies. By doing this, we were able to get the price down from 150,000 JPY with the first contractor to 59,000 with the final one, and could probably have gone even lower. It is only part of the whole moving fee but can always help to get some of the fees down. Great content btw! I just thought I would put that out there!
For comparison. When I was moving in Vienna a few years back: -Agency fee 2xRent+Tax -Deposit 3xRext -1,5 Rent upfront (moving in middle of month) Luckily almost no stuff (clutter) at that time so no need to pay separate movers... Still the move in cost was cca 4000-4500€.... Not the mention there are also common minimum rent duration 12 months plus termination notice usually 3 month in advance...Quite annoying (and not cheap) to switch flats... As for global comparison I think Toyko salaries may not be that far off....
Well.. but the agency was optional and everything else just paid the rent or was retrievable. Not to mention that in japan the process restarts after 2 years meaning you either pay extra so they let you stay or you move again. In austria they luckily appreciate long term renters.
OMG this happened to me and I had to pull an all-nighter and finished just as the moving truck was arriving. I'll never move again.
The last time I moved I only had one box left and it was a tall box and I put my library in it. I felt so bad for the movers. I have now lived in my home 20+ yrs and it would be a lot more work
I wouldn’t mind the additional cats though.
Literally every time I’ve moved I’ve thought ‘we don’t have a lot of stuff’ then a full van later we’re like 🫨
Can you imagine, thinking you have a respectable job at a housing agency, but then getting assigned the task to screen the potential tenants social media for hamsters and tattoos o_o
RIP Moss, the OGs will remember you always
That recreation of the "Rap Scene" made me chuckle for sure! :D
Good to see you Back Emma, keep going!

Thanks Highwind! The premier was fun!

All the best for you and your new place. Congratulations 🎉 you did it. 😊
I'm mentally ill. I can not see a friend for years and immediately see them again and love them just as much. I still love you 💜💜💜
I’ve been with you through several moves now and you always make the process interesting. Moving is certainly never boring! Happy for you in your new apartment. 😊 Merry Christmas to you and yours 🎄

Grats on surviving the move!
Congrats on the new place!!!
Glad to see your update. Sorry about the kidney stone. I'm looking forward to your more involved schedule. Enjoy your new digs.
It’s so nice to see you again, Emma! Can’t wait to see the new videos. And congratulations on surviving another move in Japan! ❤
Im glad you physically and mentally survived that whole ordeal! Cant wait for the apartment tour❤
How I saved money my recent move:
- renting privately from an acquaintance (from and to)
- stealing boxes from the grocery store (bought a small pack in the end because it was annoying)
- borrowing a friend's mini truck (50km distance. Took a few trips)
- new house had a washing machine and fridge so I gave away my previous ones
Cost: my time and effort 😅
Congratulations and so glad it's over for you. It sounds so harrowing and I'm hoping you love the new place!
I saw you posted and immediately went *CLICK*
Congrats on the new place!!
While I've never lived in Japan, I've done lots of moves (for both myself and helping others) and it's an adventure every time. Good on ya Emma for surviving another apartment hunt!
So happy for you that you got the apartment. You're a very strong person, proud of you. Patiently waiting on yr nxt vids. Happy Holidays 🎉
Unrelated to the video, but my niece walked in and said, "I like her! She has beautiful hair."
Tokidoki video? On this day? Hell yes, I so needed this
I'm so glad the new apartment worked out after such a stressful journey. Congratulations! The air con issue alone was insane, let alone everything else.
Glad to see you back..kind of forgot about your blogs for a couple years. Always remember your “tiny hands” videos.
I'm glad it all worked out for you. Looking forward to seeing it all! Beautiful shots so far. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve missed your videos they always make my day. Glad to see that you’r doing well Emma. You didn’t speak too much about your hospital visit.
If you enjoy emma, watch her on twitch. She mostly streams twice a week

Close to a million yen relative to what can't be more than 200k monthly seems really really wild. Woah. Otsukare!
(edit) Man have I missed that outro
Congratulations on the new apartment!! It is so worth all the hassle to live somewhere you love. Those moving fees are terrible but the monthly rent is very reasonable. Though that is with the current exchange rate which is obviously not great for the yen right now. Excited for the proper apartment tour :)
Missed you Emma - chin up, adulting is hard sometimes and you persevered. Hug of support from a stranger!
Nice to see you again, happy and healthy.
I'm happy, you like your new place. Good luck decorating it, happy holidays.
Congrats on the move! I empathise with the rants, moving is a lot.
I'm so sorry you had to go through all that crap I honestly couldn't believe it 😭🙈 Glad you made it through and were able to move!! congrats on the new place! ✨️✨️

Emma I missed u girl I’m so happy to see you’re back!! Hope your time away was fulfilling despite being so busy!! (And despite the unexpected hospital visit) Sending u love ❤️
Very eye opening and realistic video, thank you!
It's crazy to see how complicated and stressful moving apartments can be
I can still remember your last video about moving apartment in japan
Thanks for the update. Glad you're loving the new apartment!
I totally relate to this video as I just ended up moving a couple of weeks ago. Good luck with the new place.
Glad to see you back!
Congrats, Emma!!!
Hey long time viewer here. Hope you are doing okay. Remember to prioritise yourself over your work :)
All the best 😊😊💕💕
List before moving away reminds me of checking list when flying captain checks before plane is taking off! It also reminds me of list what is it like when you move away from your summer cabin.. but the list is smaller. But of course, when some of these things are communicated in Japanese, it is task of its own. There was a lot of knowledge and experience gathered to this one video. Moving is never easy.
phew, u have been super busy., i can imagine the stress & disappointment you must have felt.Missed ur face! Congrats on the move..Hope you've settled in well. And i wish you a wonderful Christmas Emma ☺
Glad to see you again!
Happy to see you alive, mate
20:54 "My tree just fell over and ... " Thanks for the giggles. My reaction exactly to seeing galls on my lime tree.
Those suck
Love the rockabilly curl hairstyle, very Amelda May. Happy to see you back.
Yay ! Welcome back ! ☺❤ The rap scene 😆
When I was moving in Vienna a few years back:
-Agency fee 2xRent+Tax
-Deposit 3xRext
-1,5 Rent upfront (moving in middle of month)
Luckily almost no stuff (clutter) at that time so no need to pay separate movers...
Isn't Austria one of those German speaking countries where people take kitchens with them when moving, or maybe only when selling....
