The 'French Quarter' is pretty much the only area that looks like this, although all of New Orleans is old as dirt. Interestingly, the whole city of New Orleans burned down in 1788, and so was rebuilt by the occupying Spanish colonists. It's actually not French architecture at all, yet somehow still reminds everyone of France...
Bread pudding = stale brioche bread, cubed and soaked in a custard sauce flavored with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg. When the bread has absorbed as much of the custard as possible the whole thing is baked until golden brown. Served warm with a butter rum or butter Bourbon sauce drizzled over the top. Some people like to add pecans and raisins into the mix. It is YUM, a wonderful warm desert especially in the winter. We usually serve it at Sunday brunch.

I've been to Brennan's for brunch and dinner. It's a beautiful five-star restaurant in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The Banana Fosters is a sweet ending to a great brunch or dinner. This is their 2nd channel. The Korean Englishman has been their primary channel for 10+ years. How is it you have never heard (so that means eaten as well) bread pudding??? It is a baked treat using old bread. Pretty easy to customize, too.
Bread pudding is made with stale bread, cinnamon & assorted spices as per region & personal preferences, dried fruit-usually raisins, & a batter made of eggs, milk or cream, vanilla,& sugar & then baked
To make bread pudding you cube up bread and allow it to stale. You make a creme anglaise add spices to it like cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. and mix that with the bread. You can also plump up some raisins if you want to add those which is popular. Typically golden raisins. You mix and bake this until the top becomes crispy and golden brown then you make a thin caramel like sauce and pour over top while it’s still hot. The best bread pudding I’ve had comes from Chefs Point Cafe. Which is a fine dining restaurant inside of a gas station in Texas. The tv show Diners Drive ins and Dives with Guy Fieri did an episode there. You should react to that episode. When I first went there it was nothing more than plastic tables and banquet chairs for the dining room and the most recent time I was there it was a beautiful restaurant with wonderful ambiance. I had duck a l’orange. Escargot stuffed mushrooms, and bread pudding for dessert. So good.
The beignets at Cafe du Monde are to die for. No, they are not like deep fried baguettes! There are many beautiful areas in New Orleans. The Garden District is particularly nice as is the French Quarter. But…there are some really dismal areas. The food in New Orleans is like no other food. I’ve only been there three times but every time has been memorable.
It's big enough--about 7 x 14 blocks. And adjacent neighborhoods like Faubourg Marigny and the Garden District make historic New Orleans much larger and not much less interesting.
New Orleans only looks like this on the high ground. When the city was originally built they knew they could only build on the high ground because obviously everywhere else flooded. Without the dams, dikes and the pumps the surrounding areas would be uninhabitable.
A lot of cities downtowns look straight out of the 50s. Most of the buildings are considered historic, so they keep them the same, and when they do renovations, they build it exactly the way it was.
I've been to New Orleans five times. Each time, by car from Michigan making it about a 22 hour drive if you only stop for fuel and food. There are some narrow side streets in the French Quarter with some hole in the wall restaurants that have like seating for maybe 20 max. At these restaurants, you can find some of the best New Orleans food, ever. That includes Cajun cuisine.

False. New Orleans food is very much Louisiana food derived from the Creole tradition the French and Spanish brought with them when they settled in the New Orleans area arriving directly from Europe. New Orleans cooking also was influenced by Italians who also were immigrants to that area. This cuisine was more refined than that of the Cajuns who immigrated from Canada after they were forced out of the Acadiana regions of the French speaking region of that country. They settled in the swamps south and west of New Orleans all the way to Port Arthur, Texas. Creole cooking makes use of tomatoes, Cajun doesn't.
