Grandissima, immensa signora Mariella Devia
Loved your comment! I have been following her for 13 years and she has always been absolutely exciting. But she never received the credit she deserved.
One of my favourite Devia pieces! No other soprano has ever matched her in this role. I can't believe Sumi Jo got to record the opera in studio. For all her gifts, Jo's performance simply pales in comparison.
Yes this aria is extremely difficult. A feather like coloratura has no business doing this aria. You need heft, power and strength to do this aria justice. Diana Damrau, & Dessay sang this aria really well. Now let's add Devia also to the list. Bravo.., sheer perfection. I'd love to hear Elizabeth Futral also sing this. It's right up her ally. Love Devia's fireworks in this piece.
The Cabaletta sounds very much like the one used by Devia in her Tancredi performances. Sometimes even with slight chnges one can hear it. Donizetti and Bellini also did this, mining unsucessful operas for melodies, especially in Donizetti's case from having to write 4 or 5 operas a year. I don't mind it, but it always makes me smile to hear little echos from other operas- Ernesto
Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the cabaletta here lifted direct from Tancredi? Rossini was notorious for his self borrowings, but perhaps by the time Le Comte Ory came out French audiences didn't know about such things andnTancredi is a much older opera. Diva is glorious no matter what- Thanks for posting!
In fact Devia does not need America, she's an extreme success in Europe and has a very solid carreer. And as the way the opera in US in going, she shouldn't come anyway or she'd be infected by the terrible singers that Met Opera has in it cast nowadays.

Madonna Santissima! Grande Devia, leggendaria!
I can't get enough of this marvellous singer!!! Please keep posting more clips!!!
I absolutely love her. I think the fact that her voice is so warm and solid in her lower register yet is able to move so quickly is amazing.
La Grandissima Devia ... A miracle!
DEVIA is a synonym of DIVA. Such perfection!! This is a singing Goddess inspired by Euterpe the Greek Muse and by the heavenly angels themselves.

Except Horne for the mezzos, Blake for the tenors, Ramey for the basses, nobody sang Rossini like Devia
la piu brava...
In the US , there is Netrebko! Keep her.

Io no...
