Lego Racers 2 was an absolute pillar of my childhood. My brothers and I spent countless hours playing splitscreen shared-keyboard races against each other. So, I was pretty excited to see a game like this coming out in the current day. Pretty torn between wanting to support it so it can be successful and we can see more of this going forward and not wanting to see it succeed because of the microtransactions.
As a father with two sons, I am acutely aware of the challenges I will face when attempting to explain the concept of microtransactions to my young toddler. It becomes particularly difficult when he simply wants to immerse himself in playful activities and construct whatever his vivid imagination conjures, only to be hindered by the excessively challenging difficulty curve inherent in these games, given his tender age. I firmly believe that such practices should be deemed illegal or, at the very least, restricted from being sold to children, as it inevitably leads to persistent pleas from children to their parents in order to unlock content that is unreasonably difficult for them, thus impeding their ability to simply have fun. I harbor an intense aversion towards this phenomenon, for it encompasses numerous dimensions that elicit my utmost disapproval. Moreover, as a conscientious parent, I perceive microtransactions as being on par with exposing my children to harmful substances, for they are oblivious to the negative ramifications. Consequently, I am grateful for my proficiency in navigating the realm of technology, enabling me to discover contemporary alternatives that allow my children to wholeheartedly engage in their chosen pursuits without allocating a single cent to the vested interests of profit-oriented corporations. In doing so, I prioritize both my financial stability and, more importantly, the overall well-being of my beloved children.
Get a previous gen console, huge library at a discount and lack of online/ microtransaction features. Wait until they mature a bit and then introduce current gen. Seems to have worked out for our generation.
When I eventually have kids I will most likely lean more towards older games due in part to microtranactions and also due to the fact I don't believe games are what they used to be. The games geared towards children have addictive qualities with very little trouble shooting throughout the games. So I would suggest older games more geared towards easy problem solving and puzzles which are in tons of older games.
Absolutely agree. Can't believe there isn't a mandated exclusion of microtransactions in games for kids. While it's probably not the worst offender, the one that irks me the most is Minecraft. As if Microsoft really need to be squeezing more money out of that. And of course they block loading custom skins in the console version (at least on Switch they do) so you have to buy their paid skins.

Well, the whales (also known as idiots) keep on buying, so publishers keep on stress-testing how far they can stretch that before they're losing more off of the wider audience than they're making off of the whales.
So long as the microtransactions are optional, then it sounds like a buy, though I might wait till it's on sale. I have always wanted another Lego game where I can build my own vehicles, and as far as I know, there hasn't been one in a LONG time.
The building is the big appeal to me too but I'm still waiting awhile. Microtransactions may not be intrusive now but it's 2K so that can easily change. Plus there is all the DLC content and what is clearly another hidden map that isn't unlocked in the main story.
The microtransactions are indeed optional in my opinion. Completing all races (like 20 or so) on all difficulty levels the first time in story mode will give you a generous amount of currency, more than enough to buy all the "brick packs" in the store. And you'll want to do that anyway to get all the story mode reward bricks.
I was put off by the price especially considering it has microtransactions too. It's free for 1 month to download and keep for PS4 and PS5 on PS+ from December 5th 2023 though so grab it while you can.
Apparently, it's $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X but it's $60 everywhere else. It's seemed like a fun game but not worth it (at least for me). My sister love building Legos and sometimes we play Mario Kart together. I think she will like this game.
Been watching you guys since 2012/13 or something man hands down best gaming Chanel on TH-cam! Love you all man ! Happy gaming and jake get some sleep mate, don’t overwork yourself
As much as I love Lego (and this is not on Lego itself, but towards 2K), the fact that it's a $70 full-priced game with microtransactions that are pushed on the player like a free mobile game makes this a no-go for me.
My biggest criticism is that the power up system doesn't build off Lego Racers. The power ups don't stack into interesting upgrades where you have to balance "do I use now?" or "wait for more white bricks for a stronger power up?". The power ups here are just boring standard cart affairs.
My opinion about the game: Advantages: The gameplay: it's very fun, very chaotic on an good way (mainly the last races) and it is also quite easy to learn if u play alot of Mario Kart arcade styled games (like me). The race design: it's actually really good, the races are enjoyable and they have variety, which is unique if u count the fact that the game has mostly circuit tracks The maps: probably one of the best things. The maps are very vivid, with quite alot of people, alot of life and also they are very good designed. The destruction factor: being able to destroy most things in your way in the free roam mode and seeing the pieces fly everywhere is quite enjoyable! The difficulty: this game surprised me, i thought it would be easy as hell, but no, it is quite hard sometimes, mainly the last races, something the normal lego games can't do much. The garage: that thing is great, because being able to create our own cars from ground zero to the very last pieces is genius + i have alot of creativity and skill with lego builds, and for me, the garage mode is an paradise for any experienced lego builder (like me). The humor: even though the humor is pg-10 or pg-13 (i don't remember what is the age range for this game) it is always great, mainly with the main protagonists and the cutscenes, which are hilarious most times. The Dubbing: it is good, mainly the dubbing of the rivals and the main characters The graphics: tbh i don't mind graphics, the game can be ugly as hell, but if it is enjoyable, i can skip the graphics, but in this case, because i have to say about them, they are very beautiful, that's it. And for last: The challengefull races: it's always great to see games with epic races, and with this one, is no different, because most races i did where fulfilled with epicness, which is great, and quite alot. And after all this, i say, this game is very good, but not soo much, there is some... Disadvantages: they are only 4, but they height ALOT The defense and rescue challenges: man, this things are annoying, mainly because they are mandatory to gain access to some races, which is annoying for me, they needed to be secondary missions or just opitional. The micro transactions and monetization system: in this case, i have problem because this game costs 70 bucks and having to buy more things is just lame, but when i remember that this game is for younger kids mostly, i become even more frustrated with this game because that system can fool kids into buying things with real money in the game. In short: they know what they were doing when they put micro transactions into an game made for younger kids. The price tag: ... Man, 70 dollars for an game like this???? That price is quite inflated (something not problematic to me because i got it for free in the ps plus essential list of December 2023). And lastly: The difficulty level (sometimes): even though i sad the difficulty is good, sometimes it oscillates too much, because sometimes the game is easy gg, but others it is infernally hard for no reason. Well, after all this, i can say, Lego 2k drive is a very fun racing game, and an very decent one as well. Even though there is this problems with Microtransactions and the price tag, which are by far the worst problems, i can say, they are forgiving if u have ps plus and get it now december 2023. And for people who wants to buy it, just don't, or if u really want, wait for an big offer or discount to them pick it on your xbox store or psn. And just to finish off: Note: 7.5/10 if u don't mind the micro transactions and the price tag 6/10 with these problems Still, it is a very decent game, more soo than Forza Failsport 2023, which is an dumpster fire. And even though Lego 2K drive is not better than The Crew Motorfest, which is by far my most favorite racing game of this year, i recommend playing Lego 2K Drive if you pick it on the psn plus.
In case anyone sees this video recently know the game has some game breaking issues and the player base is pretty much dead. There's no reports of a sequel and once the season pass is up the support is being pulled.
Microtransactions in a 70 dollar game is a huge no for me, especially since I don’t agree with the 70 dollar pricetag for the content of the game. If it was like 20 or 30 dollars I wouldn’t mind the microtransactions.
You guys are my go to for reviews (don’t trust IGN & Gamespot) Just realised you are not getting free game from developers and need to spend your own money Thank you for doing it for the community
@Cen Ciende I don't think getting used to it the best option, when they see players got used to 70$ games they will increase it because they know the players will get used to it again. We shouldn't buy there 70$ games because when we do that they will realize that not everyone sitting on a bank
I thought " damn this looks fun, it must be a solid 20$" When I went to buy it was a full priced 60$ game like wtf?! Guess I've been away from gaming for too long to understand that they're now selling everything for 60$.
We got RE4 remake, Zelda, Jedi Survivor, Diablo, and Final Fantasy over like 3 months. WE ARE EATING. This looks dope, especially that car builder, but I have no problem waiting for this to be $20 around black friday.
It looks like a lot of fun, but I don’t think a Lego game like this should be worth over £80 or £105 for the “ultimate edition” I’d probably pay £30 for this? Maybe when a deal pops up on steam or something. Edit: I know the price has decreased since it came out, but I still don’t think I want to pay £60. I’d rather use it for actual lego.
The price along with the microtransactions are a deal breaker for me. The only reason I'm gonna play this is because we're getting it for free on PS+ next week.

It looks cool but that $70 price tag is steep. I dont think that all games should be priced that just because they are new. For example the new Star Wars game or new Zelda game are both $60 games and have 10x more content in them
Deluxe edition is $40 rn gonna try it out. Thanks for the info. Haven't watched a "before you buy" vid in a while. Glad to see you're still doing your thing 💯
I've never really been a Lego fan, even as a kid, but this game looks really fun. I love how the vehicle changes when driving on different terrains. It looks so fun but the price is a bit much, I'd rather wait till it's 40 or 50 bucks.
I'll play any racing game,so getting this for $10 through PS Plus was a solid deal overall The custom builds look insane, love that some people recreated G1 Optimus, made a Marty Mcfly boat/surfboard,a Star Wars Fighter (it was Yodas or Obi wans) Even a bed boat After seeing those custom builds, made me want a double decker couch for the reference to 2014,I know..10 years later but cmon,as a kid I grew up with each lego star wars game, played potc and loved the og lego Batman game so much so getting this on the ps4 and ps5 was a nice bonus - It's basically a slimmed down version of mariokart, nfs, the crew all blended together to build a fun game.

I was put off by the price especially considering it has microtransactions too. It's free for 1 month to download and keep for PS4 and PS5 on PS+ from December 5th 2023 though so grab it while you can.
Lego Racers was my jam growing up. Totally forgot about it until you mentioned it.
LEGO 2K Drive is coming to Playstation Plus Essential December 2023!
Bro literally put whole Car on his Head 💀
the fact that you can build stuff from scratch means that you can find lego set manuals online and build the set in-game is super cool
Wonder if I can build the new Lego BatMobile
Apparently, it's $70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X but it's $60 everywhere else. It's seemed like a fun game but not worth it (at least for me). My sister love building Legos and sometimes we play Mario Kart together. I think she will like this game.
Been watching you guys since 2012/13 or something man hands down best gaming Chanel on TH-cam! Love you all man ! Happy gaming and jake get some sleep mate, don’t overwork yourself
They are asking $70 for this game. Which I personally find deeply, deeply insulting.
As much as I love Lego (and this is not on Lego itself, but towards 2K), the fact that it's a $70 full-priced game with microtransactions that are pushed on the player like a free mobile game makes this a no-go for me.
Game looks rly fun, especially being able to build your own vehicles but seriously that price is a dealbreaker.
June 2024 - I've been waiting for this: LEGO 2K Drive goes to Humble Choice
I'll definitely be waiting for a sale. Was a huge fan of Lego racers back in the day, so I'm excited for the price to drop and play this as well!
It’s 2K, OF COURSE there’s microtransactions. I wouldn’t expect nothing less from them.
When the price isn't £50 I'll definitely pick this up
👍🏼
My biggest criticism is that the power up system doesn't build off Lego Racers. The power ups don't stack into interesting upgrades where you have to balance "do I use now?" or "wait for more white bricks for a stronger power up?". The power ups here are just boring standard cart affairs.
Yes and the tracks are empty. It is just a barren wasteland where in the old racers you went into temples and stuff.
Lego Racers back in the day was my jam
I feel like for a "lego world" it seems like 30% lego
Jake: "This is a great game for families"
Also Jake: "There's a god damn jump button!"
🤣
It warms my heart that you mentioned Lego Racers and Island ❤ Thats why im looking into this new game haha
This looks like a "wait till the game of the year version goes on sale" for me.
My opinion about the game:
Advantages:
The gameplay: it's very fun, very chaotic on an good way (mainly the last races) and it is also quite easy to learn if u play alot of Mario Kart arcade styled games (like me).
The race design: it's actually really good, the races are enjoyable and they have variety, which is unique if u count the fact that the game has mostly circuit tracks
The maps: probably one of the best things.
The Dubbing: it is good, mainly the dubbing of the rivals and the main characters
The graphics: tbh i don't mind graphics, the game can be ugly as hell, but if it is enjoyable, i can skip the graphics, but in this case, because i have to say about them, they are very beautiful, that's it.
And for last:
The challengefull races: it's always great to see games with epic races, and with this one, is no different, because most races i did where fulfilled with epicness, which is great, and quite alot.
And after all this, i say, this game is very good, but not soo much, there is some...
Disadvantages: they are only 4, but they height ALOT
The defense and rescue challenges: man, this things are annoying, mainly because they are mandatory to gain access to some races, which is annoying for me, they needed to be secondary missions or just opitional.
The price tag:
... Man, 70 dollars for an game like this????
That price is quite inflated (something not problematic to me because i got it for free in the ps plus essential list of December 2023).
And lastly:
The difficulty level (sometimes): even though i sad the difficulty is good, sometimes it oscillates too much, because sometimes the game is easy gg, but others it is infernally hard for no reason.
And just to finish off:
Note: 7.5/10 if u don't mind the micro transactions and the price tag
6/10 with these problems
Still, it is a very decent game, more soo than Forza Failsport 2023, which is an dumpster fire.
And even though Lego 2K drive is not better than The Crew Motorfest, which is by far my most favorite racing game of this year, i recommend playing Lego 2K Drive if you pick it on the psn plus.
Thanks so much for this! It couldn't have come at a better time, I've been thinking of getting this for my son and this helped a lot!
In case anyone sees this video recently know the game has some game breaking issues and the player base is pretty much dead. There's no reports of a sequel and once the season pass is up the support is being pulled.
Not spending $70 on this. Looks fun, will wait for a sale.
All I need is CTR Nitro Fueled on PC with season passes and content updates. Will literally live there.
Microtransactions in a 70 dollar game is a huge no for me, especially since I don’t agree with the 70 dollar pricetag for the content of the game. If it was like 20 or 30 dollars I wouldn’t mind the microtransactions.
Been in a cave for last few years?
@@dave8413 wdym
Micro transactions are normal. You'll start to see more and more in full price games.
You guys are my go to for reviews (don’t trust IGN & Gamespot)
Just realised you are not getting free game from developers and need to spend your own money
Thank you for doing it for the community
Lego Island. Jesus Christ man lol. My childhood right now
Lego Racer and Lego Rock Raiders was a lot of fun from me and my brothers early teen years.
Literally look forward to these videos every single day it makes my day you guys are great!!!!!!
It's on gamepass now, so if you've been waiting give it a shot. I started playing it because it reminded me of Lego Racers way back in the day lol.
Lego racers was one of the games of my childhood really debating getting this 🧐
I would wait for a sale it's worth 30-40 bucks. Not 60-70
Jake having a Lego car as a head is the greatest thumbnail you guys created
How the hell is this game 70$
🤷♂️
How is any game 70 dollars. All games are 70. Stop complaining and get ur money up
@GHOST LEGIT No game ever deserves 70$ as a price. Even 60$ is so high, not everyone is sitting on a bank
How is it not? That's full price now, better get used to it.
@Cen Ciende I don't think getting used to it the best option, when they see players got used to 70$ games they will increase it because they know the players will get used to it again. We shouldn't buy there 70$ games because when we do that they will realize that not everyone sitting on a bank
These type of games just make me miss and want another BLUR! Man that game was (is) great xD
Looks fun but $70! I’ll be waiting for a big sale before picking this up.
One of my favorite things about this channel that so many others forget is that this one actually acknowledges people have kids 🙉 wow
Thank god this video has no spoilers. Was worried about that for this game
looks like modern Blur with lego characters!
It looks visually interesting
It looks visually interesting
I really like that you don't review it with a score just talking good and bad things
Thanks for all your work. It really helps me make decisions on purchases. 🙏🏻👊🏻
My favorite line 2 ;44 "Theres a GOD DAMN jump button!''
Who’s here from ps plus?
Great "Speed" reference, & great user name for a racing game!!
Me after its on ps plus seeing if its worth downloading lol
Same!!
Thanks for not showing spoilers for this game. Can't wait to get into the story. :D
Hope ya enjoy it bud
It looks like a lot of fun, but I don’t think a Lego game like this should be worth over £80 or £105 for the “ultimate edition”
I’d probably pay £30 for this? Maybe when a deal pops up on steam or something.
Edit: I know the price has decreased since it came out, but I still don’t think I want to pay £60. I’d rather use it for actual lego.
The price along with the microtransactions are a deal breaker for me. The only reason I'm gonna play this is because we're getting it for free on PS+ next week.
🎥😄 Wow, this game is absolutely incredible! I never thought I'd be hooked on logo games again! 😃👍 I'm considering capturing the gameplay and sharing it on TH-cam. 😔📹 However, it's disheartening to realize that it can be quite challenging to gain visibility for such videos. 😕📺
Make tik-toks, tik tok is really good for growing a channel.
Either you start or you dont. But if you start now you won't regret it later. If you start a year from now, you'll wish you started two years ago
Logo game's so hooked you can't even say the franchise right😂😂 don't even try to make a channel you have to have a USP and I doubt if you are playing games like this you would have one of them😂😂😂
microtransactions need to become illegal
I've watched enough of these that I can tell if a game is good or bad by the way Jake does the intro. I love it 😅
Will 100% be on PS+ / XGP within a year
There's a WHAT jump button? Oh my Jake. That's some enthusiasm.
Was about to finish transaction this changed my mind thanks
It looks cool but that $70 price tag is steep. I dont think that all games should be priced that just because they are new. For example the new Star Wars game or new Zelda game are both $60 games and have 10x more content in them
Deluxe edition is $40 rn gonna try it out. Thanks for the info. Haven't watched a "before you buy" vid in a while. Glad to see you're still doing your thing 💯
Lego island. Wow. You just unlocked a distant memory for me, Jake! Thanks! Lol
The only thing preventing me from getting this game is the high price. $70!
Anyone else remember lego island xtreme stunts? Played the shit out of that back in the day, as well as island 2
Before you buy: Remember it is a 2K game! ... so.... maybe you are better off skiping on this one....and everything else this company do...
10:55 I love how they’re self aware
I've never really been a Lego fan, even as a kid, but this game looks really fun. I love how the vehicle changes when driving on different terrains. It looks so fun but the price is a bit much, I'd rather wait till it's 40 or 50 bucks.
I'll play any racing game,so getting this for $10 through PS Plus was a solid deal overall
The custom builds look insane, love that some people recreated G1 Optimus, made a Marty Mcfly boat/surfboard,a Star Wars Fighter (it was Yodas or Obi wans)
Even a bed boat
After seeing those custom builds, made me want a double decker couch for the reference to 2014,I know..10 years later but cmon,as a kid I grew up with each lego star wars game, played potc and loved the og lego Batman game so much so getting this on the ps4 and ps5 was a nice bonus
- It's basically a slimmed down version of mariokart, nfs, the crew all blended together to build a fun game.
Reminded me of Lego Racers 2 back in the day. That game was so much fun
I feel like this will be like 50% off by the end of June. I can wait
Who's here after finding out this will be free in December?
Damn you can just run over civilians? Thats wild for a kids game LOL
It is hard to me to belive that this lego game is a modern clone of Hot Wheels Extreme Racing. They didnt even hide the use of the same monster truck transformation lol
*Squidward puts down his chair smiling*
This game looks fun, I'd probably get it on sale.
"It has Microtransactions"
*Squidward picks up his chair and leaves frowning*
Does it bug anybody else when the Lego games aren't set in a Lego-brick environment?
