    As a developer, I would love to be able to access the gyro feed directly so that I can give it the game-specific appropriate tuning options.
    It seems that by emulating a joystick the game's own deadzones are being applied regardless of how the upstream conversion is happening. Some games will allow for some tuning of the stick dead zones if you're lucky, but then you may have drift coming from the actual stick as well? Hmm. Tough issue to fix without a developer actively supporting gyro as a first-class feature. I assume you probably want to emulate mouse instead, to avoid that issue of having the in game deadzones affecting both.

    • @NuriMustafa-yq5bu
      @NuriMustafa-yq5bu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can definitely say that DS4Windows allows to fix this issue at certain level - you can use gyro in "mouse joystick" mode (so it will emulate right stick inputs), and you also can change the gyro dead zone along with minimum input level and some other parameters. Thus, you can minimize the existing right stick deadzone inside the game itself. In this way, some games start feeling like they have gyro aiming "implemented" by the developers themselves :D (COD MW19 and Titanfall 2 are great examples).
      However, the biggest issue for right stick emulation is that many games just incorrectly recognize/implement the right stick inputs. When you try moving right stick in some games, you notice that the game does not allow eazy circular movements for right stick - it feels too "square-ish" and unresponsive. Some games also have awful deadzone for the vertical and horizontal axes...
      so yeah - sometimes the best way is to emulate the mouse. I wish more game developers could implement gyro aiming for their games

    Have you considered doing a similar review of the other gyro-emulator options for console like the armorX and Vader? The mere ability to use gyro on the Xbox and PlayStation games that don’t support it are actually the one selling point for a controller that gives less than ideal gyro. (I have a Xim, and it looks like I’ll need to use it to play Jedi Survivor, which doesn’t support gyro on any console).

You seem to be very experienced with gyro aiming. Try going to Expert editing experience, set smoothing to custom, and set everything to 0. The stall you feel is specifically from stability. Give that a try and let me know what you think. I also have a video on my channel on how to set up pass-through. I think your opinions might change if you got everything set up the way you want it.

      @@idkrossplay oh there's one more area you can get micro stalling from. Click on the top right 3 dots, Go to global settings, calibration swipe to motion sensing, and set noise to 0. Thats the micro stall you feel on PC. To me the rest of the criticism sounded like smoothing was still on, you didn't have your in game settings correct, or the game you are on has very poor thumbstick mechanics.
      As far as the build quality, NEXUS uses an extremely high end sensor from Bosch, same brand that makes the DS4 motion sensor but much more accurate. Also from what I recall I believe motion aim for NEXUS is 500hz where Playstation caps out at 240hz.

    • @idkrossplay
      @idkrossplay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GregRosolowski you're right, the issue is that it's emulating a thumbstick so it doesn't matter how good the gyro is anyways. Also dualsense uses a different sensor and also polls at 1000hz

      @GregRosolowski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@idkrossplay thats cool that Duelsense polls at 1000hz. I'm curios if thats only when wired. I did hear 1000hz wired is coming to Nexus.
      Some games have incredible thumbstick mechanics. Call of Duty, Apex, even Fortnite for example you can dail in with perfect granular movement. The type of stalling you had in Fortnite cannot be blamed on the thumbstick mechanics of that game. You either still had smoothing or something else was not set up correctly in the game.

    Your right that not allowing passthrough is bad (but only for pc). But did you even try to change any of the setting on your Nexus config. For example i bet you used perfectly dialed in settings on the native gyro in fortnite. Did you do the same for your Nexus, because otherwise this is not a fair comparison. I agree on the passthough, because i even asked them on their forum and the owner explained that his gyro controls where simply better then true mouse gyro (wich is bullshit offcourse). I recently bought anoter gyro device called an ARmor x pro from big big won.
    This is a backbutton device for the series controller that also allows you to use gyro on multiple consoles (including native switch gyro) ps4 adn series. Amnd on pc you have passthrough. Their gyro settings in their app are not as good as the nexus, but they atleast listen to cusotmer feedback when you contact them. i have done so on multiple occasions and they have even resolved some of the big isues i had with their product, and they continue to do so (and tyhey even ask for feedback on the features they offer). Xim acts high and might however and just does what they think is best. Having gyro on xbox and on other consoles that dont support it is great, and even on some games that have horrible native gyro implemantations the nexus works great.
    But on pc and on games that jibbsmart has worked (fortNite adn Deathloop)the Nexus is worse than the native implemantation. Still if you want gyro on xbox a would rather by a Armor x pro instead.

    Your point about the Dualsense control having near identical control for half the price does make sense, so in a PC environment using this setup would be better. Yeah, the reason I chose those games was because they had native gyro and Xim Central said that the Nexus would outperform native gyro. I'm sure it's fine for Xbox but it's hard to recommend since you could use the $150 to build a PC instead of getting an overpriced controller. The smart translation technology is really good but of course it's only as viable as the game lets you get and COD/Battlefield are plagued with intense aim assist, so the controller will perform well regardless

      But the answer would be that it would be limiting in games with gyro since you're bound to stick. Flick stick isn't an option on the Nexus, and whatever sensitivity multipliers you choose for the different modes will be bound to both stick and gyro, so if you want a faster gyro building sensitivity but not a faster stick building sensitivity, impossible

      The problem i have with the nexus is more with the owner of the company. He really thinks his smart translator technology outperforms mouse gyro. There are many people on the forum that ask for passtrough on pc but he just shrugs it off and keeps pushing support for passtrhough to a later date. If he would allow passtrhough then nobody would need his smart translator for pc anymore. He sees that as a loss instead of thinking of this like a way to gain a entire new marketplace for pc gyro users. Some gyro users hate the playstation layout and want a xbox controller with gyro. There is litterally a market for it. Yey he refuses to add it, just to keep people in his ecosystem.

      @@Creshex8 due to the way the gyro is implemented, it basically is emulating a joystick in its gyro, with that as the only option for all games.
      and though i don't own an apex, steam lets you use the gyro as emulating a joystick, and its ok, but feeling the deadzone is common (even after adjustments, though it can be minimized with good adjustments, though its really hard to get rid of it) and weird sensitivity limits that feel awful for large movements (something basically impossible to avoid).
      like i tried it in vanquish for comparison and even with my old config having like ten times more smoothing than it needed to, it still felt better than a quick one i made for the joystick gyro by alot and even after adjusting it further, my old config was better, and adjusting my old config widened the gap further.
      it wasn't so bad that it was anywhere close to normal stick, but it was still worse. (like a 6-7.5 vs a 8.5-9.5, with a stick being like a 3-4ish)
      for example on how different it is, in the tutorial level i did the test in, while aiming at a robot, i was able to "trace" his eye with mouse gyro while the joystick gyro really struggled with movements so small, either with them being eaten by the deadzone or once movement did happen the minimum movement was too much (and that's after adjustments), making it more of a messy circle around the head area, i know that level of precision is not super important om vanquish and in a game like gears would be compensated by aim assist, its to demonstrate the difference in-game. (with the mouse gyro also being faster and a bit smoother).
      also im comparing to mouse-gyro cause its the same as what a good native gyro should feel like. (and i own vanquish on PC and like the game)
      also XIM does claim its method is better and though i sympathize with the idea of game compatibility, its still worse and that must be mentioned for a 150$ product, even on platforms it was made for.
      what's sadder is if it could just use its gyro normally, id probably be the best controller for gyro aim due to basically having it both ways, making it actually a good value for true gyro aim lovers, but the ignorance of xim leaves us with imperfection.
      sorry for being so long-winded, but the vanquish thing ended up being a messy tangent.

      @@ananon5771 Hey! Another Vanquish fan. I put in a request for Xim to support the game.
      I’m using my Nexus on the PS4, and I cannot get the generic templates to work with it at all. Not sure why, maybe they were made to work with the PC. So I use a Borderlands 3 template with it, and that config, along with most others made for console, seems to work fine. The problem I have with the generic templates is the dead zone, liked you mentioned. I can’t get rid of it, and it’s too high. I think there are configuration options that are invisible that have to be adjusted by the creators.
      But if I use one of the other console configs, the dead zone problem vanishes. And I cannot really figure out how the performance could be improved. I haven’t used it on the PC yet. So I guess you have a point in the realm you are talking about.
      Why I don’t think I have much choice, however, I’d I don’t know of any alternatives that allow gyro to be used for all games on Xbox or PS4. The alternatives I’ve looked at only allow gyro on games that already support it, making any extra controller unnecessary.

      Not only does series X lack Gyro, but it doesn't even have standard HD rumble OR Haptics, and adaptive triggers. It also lacks 3D Audio(unless I'm mistake) and wont have it's own VR headset compared to PS5....MS has done aboslutely nothing to make XBX innovative, unique or exciting. It's just an 'easier' PC....If it weren't for the DesignLabs custom controller color maker app, i wouldn't even consider getting one. :P
      Their exclusives are lack luster too. All i want to play on it as of now are Panzer Dragoon Orta, Contra Hardcorps Uprising & RareReplay, and those are old games. :p BTW, the best Gyro controls i've experienced are for PowerSlave & Quake Remaster with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller(Or Joy-cons + Controller shell or using the Duel Sense Gyro. Did you know that the Switch Pro controller has almost 13ms more input lag than the joy-cons? it was actually confirmed and tested. Plus, Gyro is always a mixed bag. There's no reference/sensor bar so more often than not you'll have to press a realignment button once you lose accuracy. Doesn't seem to happen with Power Slave or quake though.
      What pisses me off about this Nexus controller, is that it doesn't even support rumble with Gyro in unison....No adaptive triggers either, and it's butt ugly. :p Might just pass on it

    I was amazed how good NEXUS is with micro movements. I am not PC player, but I have over 2000 hours of gyro experience with Nintendo Switch games. Games like Splatoon 2 (I achieved highest possible rank in the game), which has one of best gyro aiming mechanics on consoles. NEXUS beats every native Switch gyro game, hands down. I am not saying you are wrong here or anything, though. But for me, it is close to perfect controller for Xbox.

      @@idkrossplay Splatoon 2 does not have aim assist whatsoever (its not even option). Usually I don't use it even if it is an option, because its fights with gyro mechanics, I feel. @@idkrossplay Ah ok. Usually I prefer no aim assist or very light aim assist if I am playing with Nexus. And yes, I hold the controller in the air. I like "twitchy" setting (it has low amount of smoothing?), usually feels most accurate and natural for me. I have to say again I don't have any PC gyro experience, so I look this controller purely for console user point of view.

    • @idkrossplay
      @idkrossplay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mikkis85 I'm pretty sure the xim feels more precise because when you hold the controller in the air, you lose precision but the Nexus has a lot of smoothing to help it out + when remapping to the stick you get acceleration, so those make it feel more precise. The controller isn't bad or anything but definately Splatoon has better gyro and if you have a pc at all it's not worth $150 to buy
