I thinks it's awesome that Simone and Mustafina were in their own lanes completely. Different styles, different skills, equally impressive in their own way. Mustafina can't do a Biles or a crazy double double, but Simone can't do a switch-ring or onodi or Mustafina's bars routines. I think they are both the best gymnasts of the last decade.
Her double layout is so underrated. Beautiful pointed toes, barely a pike down, no leg separation. Of course her 2013 pass is the most iconic but that DLO is stunning!
The tricky thing is that I cannot pick one favorite Aliya moment, there are tons of awesome Aliya moments, and I cannot get enough of her wonderful gymnastics :)
I love Aliya to death, but with her poor twisting form(even before injury) doing Amanar and triple twist off beam was an injury in the making. It was irresponsible adding twisting elements despite having her getting a great height. In no way I am "glad" she got injured, but if that injured was supposed to occur, it happened at the best time. Like if you watch her Amanar and beam dismount from 2011 American Cup- she STRUGGLED with them. It was obvious growth sprut etc messed up with Aliya's abilities and there was a very little of possibility for her to regain the 2010 form for the Olympics(if we're speaking about those particular elements, as on the contrary her UB dismount was looking really sharp). If Aliya went injury free until 2012 Olympics, I think she would have arrived burned out just like Komova, with additional mental burden of "rivalry" with Vika(just like we had with Medvedeva and Zagitova in figure skating), and would not perform any better than she had. I'm pretty sure Aliya's stans are going to burn me like a witch, but looking at her career overall- including form, coaches, injuries I don't think it was meant for Aliya to become Olympic AA champion. Like I don't think this is what universe was holding for her. I have a feeling the injury really pushed and motivated Aliya, and maybe it wouldn't have happened without that? She was always a hard worker, but Alexandrov said she was stubborn and didn't want to listen to him every time. Maybe Aliya would push for higher difficulty and flop, like during American Cup? Or maybe she'd injure herself even later and be unable to compete at the Olympics at all? I don't want it to seem like I think the injury was a good thing, but in the end Aliya became two time Olympic Champion, AA bronze medalist and team medalist. She became an absolute icon, universally beloved by fans and respected by her competitors and officials. Maybe without that injury Aliya would have achieved much more- sure. But maybe she would have achieved much less. That's why I'm just grateful for what we got, years of beautiful routines and dramatic stares.

The first thing I ever saw from her was a double turn on beam. It was literally love at first sight. The detail of the hands and the position of the free leg and toe point, ugh, she was one of a kind. To this day, one of the few that represented the epitome of the sport, imo. Started to look for more of her and was hooked. Mind you this was late 2011, I didn't even know she had injured herself earlier that year, but despite that, her twisting form and whatnot, I accepted her and loved and supported her ever since. Amazingly in VROD's face at London, was so invested afterwards that I was watching the Rio UB EF live and had to leave the room until it was Kocian's turn and whenever it was beam "acro series" time I was a mess. After Rio, I was prepared for her retirement, so every chance that we got after that, was just a bliss. In this video I would also include some iconic pieces of her artistry, for example: - The way she did the switch half on beam with her arms above her head and immaculate form plus the balls she had by trying the Onodi+Double turn combo (she practically had to almost blindly put the turning foot in place after the rise from the walkover for it to be quick enough to grant the connection, which was extremely risky being an upright turn, unlike the overrated-ugly ass-low center of gravity-wolf turn). - The start of her London floor routine with that little smirk that screamed "I'm the fiercest of them all". - The ending of her 2014 floor routine with that pose that screamed "I am THE queen". - When she brought back that 2014 routine in 2018 and with just a simple yet beautifully complex hand movement in the heartbeats part: "Your fave could never". - And many more but this is long already...
I know that Simone is great so strong and nobody can do the crazy tumbling she does but for me Aliya is what gymnastics is all about. The grace, the elegance, the lines, the form. She is so clean and effortless that its so easy on the eyes. She is the reason why i was so captivated by gymnastics.
I LOVE MUSTAFINA!!! She really is one of the best gymnasts of this generation and is a great role model for the sport. Her work is effortless, graceful, powerful, elegant, strong and she has been so consistent. BRAVO 👏👏👏👏
I LOVED her gymnastics! She was strong, elegant, and passionate. Everything she did was beautiful. I liked Nastia's onodi better, but I think it's because of Nastia's limb length; certainly no fault of Aliya's. I was glad to see her come back post-injury and post-baby.
@@ojk46 aliya's worst event is beam. She has scored 13.900 on that. But she never scored a low score in vault. Beam is her most inconsistent and weakest one

@@ojk46 she consistently scored over 15's on vault, the same cant be said on beam. i did not know where u got the "i dont how why you wanted her to fall" part. though it is clear that she has a solid dty, her connections or skills on beam aren't consistent and isn't guaranteed. She can consistently stuck her vault and score in the 15's in 2013-2016 quad. However, on a good day, Aliya's max score on beam can only go up to the high 14's
Are we calling a consistently stuck dty weak? There is a whole post on her struggles with beam, especially the acro series by balance beam situation on twitter. Maybe you people would like to check it out.
I've always appreciated how she makes the effort to complete the lines in her legs by straightening her knees and pointing her feet in her tricks. Some of the best gymnasts in the world nowadays don't do this very often anymore, and I understand that it's gymnastics, but as a dancer, seeing that low-key irks me. 😅

Yeah, only when your Biles was banned in Japan from taking her doping, the whole world saw what she was really worth. Test tube magic that's all.

As much as I love her her vaulting technique was very wonky
