K sis, since every one needs to know, its one part water one part vinegar, and for those of you who dont know part just means equal amounts, so 1 cup water 1 cup vinegar, 1 tbs water 1 tbs vinegar, it doesn't matter just as long as it is equal.
If you call and ask your vet what he thinks about cleaning your dog's ear with vinegar you know he will tell you that you MUST NEVER do that. You MUST (if you love your pet) bring the dog in for a $500 visit and then charge for a cleansing and abx another $200. Why would I ask my vet for permission to use a free cleaner? The whole point is to avoid the vet. This vinegar/water solution has been what I use all the time. I have saved thousands
What concentration do you use and what type of vinegar? I know she says distilled white vinegar but I also read in the comments to use apple cider vinegar
What if the ear drum is ruptured? I'm not sure of how bad ear infection is? Could it hurt them if it's really damaged already. All I can see is dark wax and some drainage. A but of redness. But it's doesn't hurt for me to rub her ear. I just don't want to cause more damage.
Actually they have employees, utilities, insurance, rent/mortgage costs, equipment and tools. So it's much cheaper to do it yourself but I wouldn't attempt to perform surgery on your own or anyone else's pets.
This is a helpful video on how to clean a dog's ears. I would like to add another way to clean a dog's ears that may prove to be more convenient, require less supplies, and quicker. It is the use of wipes. There are pet ear wipes made specifically for the cleaning of pet ears. Some even take into account ear mites and have a formula that would help against them. With ear wipes, you simply need to clean the ear because the solution is already on the wipes. Also, when using ear wipes, you can wrap the wipe around your finger and place the finger in the dog's ear, better cleaning the ear. Please remember not to be too rough when cleaning.
My Cocker's ears were always a problem, even for the vet, until I started using 50/50 water/vinegar as an ear flush. Problem went away and after about 3 days so did the vinegar smell. It was perfect and am going to do it today on my 2, 8 week old Wienerdogs, because they just don't smell good in there. Vinegar is a good anti-bacterial and a good anti-fungal liquid. Vets don't like it because it saves YOU time and money. Try it on yourself if you have any reservations. Can't hurt a damn thing!
For reasons I cannot remember, I had always understood that you used a 10% solution of vinegar to water. And it does help, but did not cure my labrador's ears. Actually one ear, the other ear was never a problem(?). But I will increase the solution tomorrow, and hope for the best. I always rinse the side of the dogs head and outer ear with fresh water to keep the vinegar from getting into the dogs eyes .You are right, the vet in the video did not state what the ratio of water to vinegar was. And I thought about that.
Since I commented, I did my pups ears with the 50/50 solution. Took them to the vet for shots, and asked him to look at their ears. He said they were just fine. Should add that there is almost no odor at all, and what little is there is a good smell. Good luck with yours. Easiest for me is to get the mixture to at least room temperature, use cotton balls to soak it up, then place it in the ear. Hold it there for a minute then squeeze it as you remove it. I do that 3 or 4 times for each ear, then rub the ear a bunch to get it down in there. Like I said, Good luck with with your pup!
Cider vinegar is usually best because of lower acidity. I get both with the same acidity, 5 percent, so they are the same. White vinegar is used in cooking recipes so it's not like harmful or something, just higher in acetic acid sometimes. Plain tap water s what I've always used. Vinegar is a natural antibiotic and it's anti-fungal. There was a spot on one pups head, when i first got them. Vet said he thought it was mites and to keep an eye on it. I put the same 50/50 solution on that spot and 10 to 14 days later the spot was gone and hair was growing back. Pretty handy stuff and I'm not a health food freak type person. It just works.
easily said.. but most vets want to charge 200+ just to look. then comes up with even more expensive things that absolutely need to be done. according to them. they take advantage of the fact that we love our pets. doctors don't even charge that exorbitant amount of money for us..
I actually use just a quilted cotten pad to clean my dogs ears i think it gives better control then a q tip and its bigger so you can't make the mistake of going to far down the ear
The problem is the local vet wants $170. to clean my dog's ears. I do it myself for 5 cents worth of white vinegar 20%, mixed with 80% water. I shoot it into dog's ear, then hold him a minute so it can soak before he shakes it all out. Do this twice a day for a week and most any ear problems will go away.
Exactly! But those greedy paid article writers will scare everyone by typing "BEWARE OF WATER AND VINEGAR DOG EAR WASH, or WHY YOU SHOULDNT PUT WATER AND VINEGAR IN DOGS EAR". I've been doing this for 5 years now and my dogs have never had ear issues
I think this is a good video, it emphasizes that there is a part of the ear that cannot be seen by the pet owners. I don't think encouraging the average person to try to use Q-tips on the average struggling dog is a good idea,
Dr. Laurel is a genius actually- She used this ENTIRE video to mitigate liability and then convince you to negate the ENTIRE purpose of the holistic approach- if my dog had a perforated eardrum we are going to find that out after 3 days when the yeast didn’t clear up- I love how she flipped the entire script into “take your dog to one of my colleagues and pay 200 dollars to be told it’s yeast” typical America. Even the dogs aren’t safe
I Think this video was very helpful. it tells you what to do and what not to do. it isn't a very simple task and when you don't know a thing about cleaning ears you most likely want what's best for you dog. I do agree with using wipes, it seems very more convenient and cheaper. I would like to note that you should not use water in you dogs ears. when you use water it causes lots of oil build up and can cause all kinds of ear infections . when cleaning you dogs ears I recommend vinegar and rubbing alcohol 50/50

@Carl Aiello very heartless and unhelpful comment. For ear mites one can simply use a couple of drops in the dogs ear with a syringe. Unless you’re rich, the average American won’t ave hundreds or thousands lying around for vet costs. Unless the ear mites are so bad there is crushing on the outside of the dogs ears. There are many over the counter or natural remedies that can help. Instead of being judge mental you could’ve just given some helpful advice. And don’t put 100% faith in doctors because there will be some that will cheat you because they want money. Again, not all, but some. I worked in the vet field and some care more about money than helping the animals.
You can add a couple drops of coconut oil unrefined in each of the dogs ears. Use a syringe to add ONLY 2-3 drops. It can drown the ear mites and kill them. Do this for 2-3 weeks every day or every other day. If no improvement then take your dog to a different vet. Perhaps look for an affordable clinic. While this is meant to be helpful, it is not in line with best practice when it comes to ear cleaning. She clearly mentions that this is what USED to be recommended when more effective and safer products were not widely available. Please do not simply follow advice blindly even from what could be seen as a trusted source. Before following the advice in this video please contact your veterinarian for proper guidance. Ear cleaners should be self-drying and cleansing. You should not be trying to kill anything with your routine ear cleanings and she is correct in stating that nothing at home should go beyond the vertical canal. The main goal for maintenance cleanings is to remove debris and dry out the ear so that bacteria and yeast are less likely to grow and cause a problem. If you think there could be an infection, a veterinarian should get involved, and not after a month of vinegar washes. And please for the love of all that is holy don’t use H2O2. #stewarttheearchampion
I would NEVER use Apple Cider Vinegar. It contains sediment and actual solid particulate that is part of the fermentation process and should NOT be accidentally left in a dog's ear canal. There is otherwise no difference in either vinegar which is simply acetic acid.
@@danielebrparish4271 I concur 100%. After swimming competitively for approximately a decade in my teens and twenties, I used 50/50 white vinegar and rubbing alcohol almost daily...and was NEVER instructed by a Veterinarian NOT to use this to prevent Swimmer's Ear.
I’m not calling my vet to ask them that I just want money and it’s not like you’re going to pour it down the rear it’s just for the outside but there’s stuff I get it the expensive dog store I get her dog food at and it’s a purple ear cleaner and it’s got bleach in it and it makes your ear smells fresh since I’m out in her ears stink I’d like to clean them with some vinegar
I felt compelled to say this but I feel bad for the dog at 0:35 I know you were trying to show us his ear but pulling the side of his face was kind of mean and unnecessary. There are many other ways to get him to stay still or get his attention. Or have the camera/camera person be closer and adjust the angle rather than having the camera sit still.
I think you should not be recommending anyone but a veterinarian to use a q tip, or even show it to the many, many people, that for whatever reason maybe do not understand or are not really listening, or are co fused about the outer and inner ear. For the video, using a piece of gauze around a small finger should do it and leave any messing with the inner canal to a vet. Please, for the sake of the dog, redo the video without a Qtip. Thank you.

@@angelagill75 yes it's a year later but just wanted to say i know nothing about anatomy or dogs or humans for that matter but if water gets on or around the eardrum which is what will happen if you use water it can cause an infection cause water and vinegar don't have a long term effect in killing bacteria so the ear and around the eardrum where you can't dry will just be moist and allow bacteria to grow faster
but madam, even cleaning with a cotton ball there are chances that water may get struck inside the dog's ear canal. Please tell me any other method of removing ear mites from dog' ears ............................
this is not to heal in any shape or form and shouldn't be applied further than half an inch inside of the ear, so answer is whenever your dog's ear is dirty
All I heard was "go to your vet' for 3mins. Why even make the video if you're that afraid of legal issues. We're on TH-cam because we DONT want to go to the vet 😂.
Pritch 89 A 50/50 mix. I do mine a little differant... I have a Saint Bernard and I clean his ears twice a week. My dog has not have had any issues. Hope this helps.

She didn't choke him. She pulled on the loose skin to hold his head which does not hurt the dog at all. Mother dogs often carry their young around by holding the loose skin.
He was leaning and was balancing on the other three legs. Do not be so critical of a veterinarian who is in the business to help animals. If you think he is being choked, you need to learn a lot more about dogs.
Joni Greer well just tried that on my dog and she didn't lift her paw up nor lean to a side so say what you want but you got to question how many people are saying same thing....... Take criticism if you post videos good comments are only a bonus

Dude.. Why are you holding the dog by his neck at a height that's clearly uncomfortable to him. Not to mention pulling at the side of his face to try to make him turn his head so the camera can see into his ear. Maybe its just me but I do NOT like the way the dog is being handled. I dont believe she is intentionally trying to hurt the dog or anything even close to that,I just think she needs to be more mindful of what she's doing. Perhaps watching some of her own recordings would be helpful. Just a suggestion.
You must be a vet I have a vet near by He wouldn't tell me what treatment my dog needed just how much it would cost I didn't have that amount He then asked how much do you have In the end he gave him a antibiotic shot Refuse to tell me any more Vets are money hungry ppl that have no concerns for animals cause animals don't have money the owners do .
I know they have to make a living but they are putting the almighty $$$ ahead of pet care. I had a Lab who had cancer. When it came time, I made an appt. but was told that because I owed them money, they would not put her down, I was no longer a client and to find another vet!

Could you please give us the proportion of water and vinegar to use ?
1 cup water 1 cup vinegar 1 tbs water 1 tbsp vinegar, it doesn’t matter as long as its equal
is it normal white vinegar that you buy in shop
Yup, you can use white or apple cider vinegar. Oh, be sure to use distilled water.
I would NEVER use Apple Cider Vinegar. It contains sediment and actual solid particulate that is part of the fermentation process and should NOT be accidentally left in a dog's ear canal. There is otherwise no difference in either vinegar which is simply acetic acid.
@@mrblue96 relax dude that was seven years ago...my dogs dead now but it wasnt her ears i fixed them and NOT with vinegar lol
“If we could open Stuart up this way.” And Stuart thinks WTF! did you just say about Stuart, bitch??!! Lol!
What kind of vinegar does one use?
50/50 water and white vinegar, the same as swimmers use to prevent fungal infection after a swim.
@Ome LMBO I googled and it said 1 part vinegar to 2 parts vinegar
Its 1 tbs vinegar, it doesn’t matter just as long as its equal
I felt compelled to say this but I feel bad for the dog at 0:35 I know you were trying to show us his ear but pulling the side of his face was kind of mean and unnecessary. There are many other ways to get him to stay still or get his attention. Or have the camera/camera person be closer and adjust the angle rather than having the camera sit still.
Obviously you have little knowledge of what you are saying.
I just watched this and you didn't give the proportions of vinegar to water :/ as the prior comment stated.
Thank you.
I use a 50/50 solution of warm water and vinegar. I then apply a mixture of tea tree oil mixed with sweet almond oil.
Abbygail tea tree oil is dangerous to dogs
Only water and vinager!!! do people intentionally not listen !!!!
Your dog isn't being eaten by you is it....? Why are you putting other crap, inside it....???? Your then putting coconut oil in there too with basil and ect. Don't forget to burn the hair off...it'll get in the meat. You welcome!! Idiot
Doesn’t water in the ears give infections?
You can't use tap water, Lord only knows what's in it! Instead us distilled water.
@@janfuger1517 but we drink it, bathe in it and cook with it. 🙄
My ears don't stand up like that.
but madam, even cleaning with a cotton ball there are chances that water may get struck inside the dog's ear canal. Please tell me any other method of removing ear mites from dog' ears ............................
Thornit canker powder, it can be used on paws too.
Canker works
How much times do I put water mix with vinegar after the 1st time in my dogs ear
this is not to heal in any shape or form and shouldn't be applied further than half an inch inside of the ear, so answer is whenever your dog's ear is dirty
Stuart was not having it lol he was so over her
All I heard was "go to your vet' for 3mins. Why even make the video if you're that afraid of legal issues. We're on TH-cam because we DONT want to go to the vet 😂.
This vet is not thoughtful at all! Poor Stewart
awwwwwwwwwwww hews so cute
What is the ratio of vinegar and water to mix
1 cup water 1 cup vinegar 1tbs water 1tbs vinegar it doesn’t matter just as long as its equal
Sounded more like a Veterinarian commercial in order to get some 💰 out of you?????
Yeah she was worried she losing busjness. The medical ear solutions are much more dangerous.
whys she's rubbing that dirty q-tip all over her plastic ear model?
how much water and how much of vinegar is needed to make that solution?
I read another site that it's 50/50, always.
Pritch 89 A 50/50 mix.
I do mine a little differant... I have a Saint Bernard and I clean his ears twice a week. I use a fragrance free baby wipe, rinse the baby wipe with water just to moisten the baby wipe, in a bowl pour a capful of apple cider vinegar, a cap of hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of water. My dog has not have had any issues. Hope this helps.
Thank you for being so helpful I am sick of this people that cuss and leave rude comment they need to get them to there self thank you for your time you help me and my Dog
What the hell. Where's the instruction???
My pug has tooo much ear problem the right one too much wax
Did you have to choke him in the beginning of the video like that?
She didn't choke him. She pulled on the loose skin to hold his head which does not hurt the dog at all. Mother dogs often carry their young around by holding the loose skin.
See his little paw lift up begging her to stop
He was leaning and was balancing on the other three legs. Do not be so critical of a veterinarian who is in the business to help animals. If you think he is being choked, you need to learn a lot more about dogs.
Joni Greer well just tried that on my dog and she didn't lift her paw up nor lean to a side so say what you want but you got to question how many people are saying same thing....... Take criticism if you post videos good comments are only a bonus
Guidance pressure to the throat isn't choking. The dog made no objections. You're either confused or a troll.
??????
What about a 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water solution?
No vet needs to see before putting things in dog’s ear
NOOO don't do that to your dog it will only irritate it and there's so much chemicals that can harm his or her eardrums. i hope you didn't do it
Quack. This can cause more problems.
That is a rough vet, dragging, pushing and pulling the poor puppy. I wouldn't trust her if my pup's life depended on her....
A waste of cyber space
Get to the dam point
WTF 😂 Did she say If we open up Stuart that way!
"If we could OPEN UP Stewart, HE WOULD LOOK THAT WAY. If this is not vulgar, what is... Lady, would you talk like that about your child? How disgusting.....
MB seriously?! She’s a licensed vet, and she isn’t handling that dog any differently than any other vet I have seen. And she isn’t being vulgar by saying if he were to be opened up, it would look like that. That’s called anatomy! 🤦🏼♀️ my god my faith in humanity just went down even more.
Honestly God why the hell did you give them an L shape
Portraying opening up the pretty puppy Stuart is pretty gross!!
This was absolutely rubbish. Too much waffle. Get to the bloody point.
Oh man I've paid over $700 first appointment
2nd app $ 300
3rd app $200
For ear problems still has problems after food meds ...I want to try natural way or someone whose been through it can give me advice
I know they have to make a living but they are putting the almighty $$$ ahead of pet care. I had a Lab who had cancer. When it came time, I made an appt. but was told that because I owed them money, they would not put her down, I was no longer a client and to find another vet!
a pressure washer and a tooth brush would be better.
That might work but you'd have to go to the next county to retrieve the dog so you could use the toothbrush!
When you don't mention the vinegar to water ratio your video becomes pretty much useless

Rubbing alcohol is very drying.
