- Hey Horse Lovers! Kyle and I went to another auction over The Weekend. This auction was located in Ohio at Jones Livestock. There were about 15 horses at this sale. I was interested in a few but this pony really caught my eye! We will see what happens. I’ll also be showing you all of the horses, talking about what I see, and showing you the prices they sold for. For those of you mentioning not getting the other pony here are my thoughts:
Every horse that’s ever bought or sold is separated from a buddy. It is sad but it’s the reality. Also, I take buying very seriously and I’m not going to be an irresponsible horse buyer and just buy everything. I don’t have time, energy, or funds for 2 horses at the same time right now and it also doesn’t make sense for me to own 2 small ponies with what I do. Let’s look at the positives here. Leaving him at auction with his buddy where he would have been separated anyways was the other option. Horses do form strong bonds with other horses but he will make friends at my farm. I don’t think people understand what goes into a new horse (or pony) that arrives at my farm. Tons of time, energy, training, vetting, and wellness. If I bought everything that pulled on my heart strings I would be broke and not able to do what I do and I’m not obligated to buy something I’m not wanting to take on. BUT the positive is I’m making a difference in one pony’s life. People who make comments about getting the other pony clearly do not understand what horse care entails, and I’m very serious when I make the decision to purchase because I know what goes into proper care. It’s very difficult at times, especially over winter.
I’m super happy to welcome this new pony to the farm and to give him a new life. ❤
I thought this too, but there is no reason to know if they were Buddies or just two scared horses that traveled together. If they were a bonded pair, and it be a real problem I hope that it be a note somewhere.
@@amyschleibaum974 yes. He’s doing just fine here at the farm. Ears forward, more approachable, friendly, happy, eating, and drinking, and pooping with no loose stool.
I wish people that made comments like that really understood what it’s like to take on the ownership of a new horse. A lot of thought goes into it if you are a responsible horse owner. That he’s not your only horse makes your decision that right one for you. I’m glad you made the right choice for you and him. He going to have lots of friends to boss around and have fun with.♥️😁👍

He is the best! But let’s be clear he doesn’t love horses as much as me 🤣. But, He cares for our own, deeply like they are family, and that means so much to me. ❤️

I LOVE these horse auction vids...I am an old lady now, and I always wanted a horse...when I was a kid, I asked and asked for a horse, but have never had one...my dad used to take my up to the stables sometimes though, and I could ride. It always felt natural to me, to be on a horse, it felt right somehow. But anyway, I subscribed to you today, after watching for awhile. Now I can ride and be with horses vicariously through you. Thanks for your common sense and your joyful appreciation of these wonderful animals.

I am so sorry for your loss. I completely understand why you had to put Prince Charming down. You did everything you could for him and sure that he was loved. He had the best last year of his life with you. You are an awesome human being to care so much for your horses. God bless you.

Shae, I've been watching your TH-cam videos for several weeks and just want to say thank you , with tears in my eyes, for making them. Nearly 55 years ago I too was a little girl who wanted my own horse. It wasn't possible, and after watching videos, I understand why my sweet father said it wouldn't work for us. Nevertheless, I have always admired horses, and I feel like I am learning so much about them vicariously through you. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge and beautiful loved horses.

I've only recently found your channel & I can't get enough. I grew up on horses too & had them until right after high school. I also live in Michigan. I really like that you use Disney names too. I've used Disney names for my cats for over 20 years. I have Merlin & Elsa now. They are 14 & 6. In the past I've had Sebastian, Ariel, Jafar & Jasmine. I also have some semi feral cats that I named when I trapped them last year to get them fixed & vaccinated. The first two are Anna & Moana. Then I went with Thor, Loki, Spirit & Callie. I felt they couldn't get fixed & not have names. I'm still trying to rehome the 6 semi ferals. Please keep the videos coming. I've gone back to the beginning to try to catch up on all of them. Thank you.

As an owner of 2 miniatures and a welsh pony, they are so fun, especially on the cart! Varnish colored horses are absolutely gorgeous once they shed out fully. My oldest daughter has a 12 year old varnish appy and he’s an eye catcher, I’ve never seen another one quite like him. I wish TH-cam would allow pictures in comments because I’d show you our varnish. He’s almost all white with red legs, ears, nose, mane, and tail.
A cute name for that pony would be Pit Pocket.

Congrats, he is super cute and sassy. That darker Belgian mare was a beauty also. I did like that little scruffy pony that wasn't the prettiest but moved so nicely and seemed to have a sweet vibe. I hope Kyle gets to name this naughty new pony! Thanks for showing a kinder auction, also. I would not be able to handle going to an auction like the one in the last video- I'd be maxing out all my $$ to save as many as I could! no, ponies absolutely cannot carry extra or “more weight” … always stick to the rule 15-20% rider weight ratio to pony/ horse … always! … and you are absolutely right, you do look ridiculous … now, that big Belgian mamma draft mare, wow what a stunner … she could easily carry both you and Kyle together at the same time … heard a lady talking about riding one of these, said it was like riding a “sofa” … really miss having horses … happy trails to all at Free Spirit Farm … hope Kyle buys both these cute little ponies 🐴 maybe name them “Milo & Otis”
Yes I agree! I just wanted to see where he was at and now I know. She wouldn’t have made a good riding horse with her build/height/what I want to do. Plus she wasn’t broke to ride and was over 10. She was indeed beautiful though.

😇"Why can't I buy them all?" Somehow, someway you need to expand your business model like the Sky Dog Sanctuary, 9,000 acres in Oregon. She goes to BLM auctions and, as you know, picked up the wild mustang, Goliath, there, and another woman had adopted his Red Lady mate there and soon sold Red Lady to Sky Dog so Goliath could have his fav mare.
You have the equestrian passion and business-management skills to do this. These horses look pretty good at this Ohio auction place compared to the Indiana one you uploaded a couple days ago.
You looked so cool riding a little canter on that pony. Can you buy her and her friend together?

I like that palomino just read a short tail I don't know if you if something happened to it or if he was that young I also like that one that you wrote around to you seem to have a real nice gate but the pony seems too too you know you can always drive on the ground too use the driving range on the ground we did that with our horses and that works pretty good or it did for us thank you so much for taking us along really enjoyed it love seeing the horses and love seeing you get excited about them I would too I've never been to a real auction so it's really fun. Can't wait to see when you get to start working and how he does and what's going on and what's your name and my sister's ranch had one that was named patches that had but it was black and white white with black patches like that so all right y'all have a great day and thank you so much for your hard work bringing us along appreciate it

I am so happy that you got this adorable pony for Kyle to enjoy! I got my first horse when I was 32. I got my first pony when I was 66! lol God gave us ponies to love!

I totally get the schooling cheeky ponies thing. People, especially armchair internet 'equestrians' scream abuse.
I've been in the same position as a teen, the smallest I've ridden was an 11.1hh Welsh section A, that was actually at the riding school for that very reason. While he was absolutely not suitable for most to ride regularly, you had to have someone at least tall enough with experience to deal with their bs.
And let me tell you, I was mortified since I was told at the time I was going to be riding this pony last minute.... in a lesson with I'd say almost intermediate kids, they were just beginning to jump. And the owners and the child this pony was bought for were watching.
The first thing he did was do his best western impression spinning in a circle and then took off leaping and bucking around the school. It's a good thing that my feet didn't fit in the stirrups so I was riding without, I only had to slide a few inches either side to make contact with the ground.
In the end, my assessment was he was a good pony, but for a more experienced kid. He actually did manage to jump 18 inches with me on board (picking up my legs procariously since I kept knocking the jump down.) and he wasn't going to be a quiet plod like they expected.
Ponies are far more capable than people expect, and sometimes you can't expect a child to school them. In my experience ponies seem to make up for the lack of size in that 'character'

Everyone would have, but then they don’t realize they are talking on a whole other horse. Trust me I wanted to, but I take buying very seriously and I don’t just buy to buy. I wouldn’t have the time, Space, or reason for another small pony. If I had unlimited funds, space, and time I would. He will make friends at my farm. ❤️
@@freespiritequestrian yes, good point and fair to the horses. You are right, they are individuals :) i can only imagine from your videos what these auctions like. Over here in Germany we don't have a lot of auctions like these. I have been to one...

If i was there to bid i think my first choice would be that large draft you looked at, for many reasons. One, you can ride her on the trails, two you could hook her up to a wagon . have her pull you around where your car wont go. I dont know i just love draft horses.

Those Belgians were amazing, I would have loved to have gotten them. I'm not in the horse hobby myself, so I wouldn't have actually gotten wither of them, but I poved them. Of course I would jave taken a close look at them. I've learned a lot from you, Shae.
