  • Any watch can tell you what time it is, but can your watch tell you the barometric pressure, altitude, temperature and even point towards magnetic north? The amazing Casio Pro Trek PRG600 YB-2 can do all of that in style with its distinctive appearance and surprisingly simple functionality. And since it's solar powered and water resistant to 100 meters, it's also the perfect post-apocalypse or deep wilderness watch too, in case that's something you worry about.
    Watch aficionado and tech expert Dave Taylor of www.AskDaveTay... spent a few weeks with the Pro Trek PRG600YB-2 and thinks it's one of the best watches on the market. This review explores why, with lots of hands-on demos...

    TH-cam has “buried” your video, which IMHO is the best I’ve seen on this impressive watch. Size was a bit intimidating, but recently retired on 5 lakeside acres and needed a replacement for my Timex Explorer that I’ve had since I was a Scoutmaster, more than 15 years ago. Great watch, and excellent review/demo.

    If you press and hold the Mode button, you can return directly to time mode from any other mode.

      @@AskDaveTaylor I have a PRW-S6000Y-1, which has a similar module. All of the ABC ana-digis introduced in the last 3-4 years seem to have this feature, as do many digital models like the Rangeman GW-9400, PRW-3000/3100 and PRW-3500/3510.

    This watch is actually almost exactly like the gwg1000 in every way!

    I have combined this with the GWG-1000 for the nasty stuff. This is a nice dress watch in comparison to the mudmaster. Appropriate for dinner at my mother's house or at work. It looks good!

    I have the PRW 300. My favourite feature is the sunrise-sunset feature. Does Casio make an analog version with this feature?

    First time watching your videos. I really liked it so I'll start following your channel from today. Question: Is this Protrek multi band 6?

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I have no idea about the multiband 6 question tho.... I'd check on the Pro Trek site.

    5:15 If you’re on an airplane the altitude value won’t be correct since it is based on the barometric pressure which will be wrong due to the cabin being pressurised.

      It's on my wrist right now. I love it. Got about a dozen watches and this is my go-to. Strap is starting to show a little bit of wear but not too bad given how much I wear it!

    The altimeter on this watch is garbage.

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you detail what you mean and upon what experience you're drawing this conclusion? In my experience it's always within 10'-15' of an elevation sign. I know because I keep checking it against posted signs and live at 5280' elevation in the mountains, so I am well aware of altitude!

    • @PepeDeezNutz
      @PepeDeezNutz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Taylor ok I live 20’ above sea level. It has changed multiple times from -11’ to 415’ without even leaving the house. So to me it can’t be trusted

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. In fact, I feel like it's not as much a "scientific" instrument as an informational one. I wouldn't rely on it for super accurate altimeter readings in any case.

    • @PepeDeezNutz
      @PepeDeezNutz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskDaveTaylor oh I completely agree. I’m not going to trust my life on it but it would be nice for the feature to actually work like the others.

    • @Notturno81

      @@PepeDeezNutz Well in this watch the altimeter works based on the barimeter. That means, if the atmospheric pressure changes, the altitude also changes. That's why it is possible that this value changed while you were at home. Besides: In the manual is it also written, that you have to adjust the altitude each time you have a reference point (for example a signpost on the path in the mountains) I know it seems to be crap at the first view but the main purpose here is to show weather changes, not the attitude.
