For us who are just starting off, it would have been so useful to see how you crochet and how you turn to form another row. I think that’s the most crucial step in this whole video. But, thanks for sharing that idea of crocheting strips.
I watched someone do this about twenty years ago and had forgotten about this as a way of using my old sheets, I have lots that I couldn’t bear to throw away. A good project for the cold days of winter.
Thanks for the update, I cut my strips on my cutting mat with a rotary cutter. After watching the first video I got out my rag strips and made a gift for my cousin, for her birthday!
Oh my gosh, this is fantastic! I have always wanted to make one of these and I thought there was sewing involved. I already know how to crochet these stitches and your directions are so easy to follow! Going out today to get a Q hook and some old sheets! Thank you!
I saw your older video and that got me saving old sheets. It's just me, so it has taken a little longer to collect enough old sheets (I'll definitely check out Goodwill) but I am finally getting ready to start the prep work. I already crochet so I'm not worried about that part. I just love the idea of taking something that would normally be thrown away and extending the life of it in an entirely new way. I grew up sleeping under old quilts my great-grandmother made and they were faded, worn, and a little frayed. I don't mind that and actually expect that based on the way the strips are made. Love the concept and can't wait to get started!
Thank you! She will have so much fun creating! I am currently teaching our 9 year old granddaughter how to crochet. She wants to make a rug for her room. Thank you so much for stopping by! ❤
Single crochet would definitely last longer than double, and a knitted garter stitch would be also good. The colors you used are so pretty, and the joining technique is a life saver!
Hi, I just found your channel, thank you for this Idea. I’m going to make a basket from my old sheets & table clothes to put my potted plants in it. I found a deep saucer to use for the bottom of the basket, it will helped to keep its shape & prevent any water damage to the basket. I found the saucer at Walmart for $1.78, it’s about 4” high & it is for a large planter. The basket can also be used for many other purposes. Thank you & look forward to your new videos 😘
I love making something out of things that might be thrown away. It is a real money saving and useful project. Thank you for this video. Now I know what size hook might be best to use.
Thank you! I genuinely felt terrible about how badly the music bothered many viewers in the original video. I needed to make that right. Have a wonderful night! 💞
@@JulieKeeperofMyHome I’m so excited!!! I wait to spring clean till autumn and have found all of my hidden stashes of sheets, mismatched socks and slightly damaged articles of clothing that I set aside for projects that I never did get around to doing. 🤣 As I enter into my autumn nesting period this will be the perfect project for this lengthening evenings. ❤️❤️❤️
I had to watch your updated version. Great modifications! I would love to see how you made the yarn version, & also how an oval one could be made. The one from 13yrs ago looks wonderful! Take care.
Hi Julie...i so wanna try this...they look so neat!! before this updated video i had read on the other one about people using it as a weighted blanket...now i'm thinking they could be put in a duvet cover...and another mention was plarn rugs...people make them for unfortunates living on the street as a mattress to lay down on...i think if they were made with sheets like yours it would bring them more warmth...
Great! I think you will really like this rug. Your feet will LOVE it! I have never tried washing just the strips. I'm afraid that would create a big tangled mess with all the fraying. I like to place my finished rugs in low traffic areas to minimize washing too often. This keeps the fraying down. Thank you so much for stopping by!
I crochet a bit and I would love to see you do one in yarn. Actually, I would love to see you do an oval and round one also. Thanks for the video. God bless you and your family.
Hi Ann. I didn't make a video on what I think you are referring to. Do you mean the rectangular burgundy and mustard colored rug? If that is the one you mean, I just used 3 strands of worsted weight yarn and simply crocheted it up into the size I needed. If this isn't what you were referring to, can you let me know, please?
Thank you! I just used a single crochet stitch. I also added fringe. I'm not sure what size hook I used, but I'm sure as long as you use one that will work with 3 strands, it will be fine. You can use any type of yarn to make this. You could even use t-shirt yarn. I'd love to hear all about it when it's done. Have fun!
Thank you for ssking Elaine! I really need to do another video on the actual crochet pattern. I think more toward fall I will. Things will slow down with my gardening and canning by then. I started with a chain of 9, I think. Then turned back on that. I just kept going around creating an oval, and increasing as I went. You need to mark your starting point, so not to lose your place. I will definitely do a video on it for you! Thank you for your interest! 💖
I like cotton best. You're right. Tearing is easier with some fabrics than it is with others, but you could always use scissors or a rotary cutter. This is such a fun project. I hope you give it a try!
Thank you Katherine. This is all done using a Q hook and single crochet. I began by chaining 9, then just kept going in rounds, increasing by 2 or 3 around the 4 corners (curves). It's very easy to do.
Sorry Julie I meant the long one you made. I chained 30 for length just not sure on corners. When you get to end are you crocheting one or two then turn and are you going into first or second stitch. I’m having trouble keeping it even. Thanks for answering so quickly though. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you! For that rug I actually used 3 different three different yarn colors all at the same time. It was a challenge, but a fun one! I chained as many stitches to get the length I wanted, then turned and went back and forth until I got the size I wanted. Does that help?
Yes, any rug can be a potential trip hazard. I like to place my crocheted rag rugs in low traffic areas, such as at a bedside or in a walk-in closet. I also recommend placing a rug gripper pad under your rug to keep it from sliding. Have a blessed holiday!
Hi Karen. As I stated in my description box below my video, this is not a video teaching you how to crochet. I am only showing you a great way to recycle your old sheets and the end results. Maybe this will help you... I started with a chain of 9, I think. It's been quite a while since I've made one. Then, I turned back on that. I just kept going around creating an oval and increasing as I went. You need to mark your starting point so as not to lose your place. Thank you for stopping by. God bless.
I keep posting cause your add on comments Your so nice But sharp as a tack - they used to say Try weird colors that makes people want mine more !! They can be so pretty with weird off tones
Way back when.....quilts were often made using ugly colors, but what most people don't consider, is that the lighting was very dim. Most homes were lit by lamplight or candles. In this low light, those ugly colors were beautiful! It's the same with the rag rugs. What we see as ugly color, or even a crazy color we wouldn't ordinarily use, is actually beautiful in the low light of the evenings. My husband and I light our home with oil lamps. We have them scattered throughout our home. It gives everything such a soft cozy glow. Thank you for stopping by! ❤️

Hi I’m not see A-Z how to start this rags sawing ? Can I ask that how is start sawing with hook?
How many sheets do you think it will take to make one for my living room floor?
Oh, gosh! I think I would start with 10. It'll depend on the size of the sheet, too. Have fun! 😊

Is there any way to make a round one?

❤
I have a question, does it matter if the sheets are not 100% cotton when you are ripping them like that?
I don't think so, but I'm not 100%. All you can do is try. I've ripped cotton, cotton blend, and flannel.
What kind of yarn did you use?
Worsted weight yarn. Just something in my stash. I have so much! 🤔
Can I ask what is the crochet hook size ?
I use a size Q hook for this rug and just a single crochet stitch. I hope you make one. Your feet will love you!
What size hook are you using.
Hi, Sue! I am using a size Q hook.
Your pile of strips looked like salad :)
Are they cotton or flannel?
Cotton. With the exception of the rug I showed that was crocheted from yarn. Thank you for watching! 💞
Thank you!
Have you heard of "Arm Knitting"?
I have heard of arm crocheting, but not knitting. My niece used to crochet on her arm. Quite interesting! I've never tried it, though.
There are videos here on TH-cam 😉
Where is the pattern use? It looks like single crocheted what about the ends?
