In Igbo land, you can actually pray to your late father and the prayer will manifest if your late dad was once an Nze na Ozo, Ichie etc...before he past away. Eze Ikolo Mmuo, once again your intellectual approach to matters of Odinala is mind blowing and mentally stimulating. Personally I've been working on a short piece on spirits for my page for close to a week now and I have some interesting insights I wish to share. Permit me to take a different approach to this discussion as I see these concepts from a slightly different point of view. Alas you're right, there is an error in translation and that's the reason for this divergence of perspectives based on the subject matter. This is going to be quite long by the way but I promise it's worth your time. First of fall, I don't believe Odinala is polytheistic because I don't even believe we as Igbos have gods. The have Chukwu, we have Chi (which is the piece of Chukwu that dwells within us) and we have Mmuo which is the spiritual essence of Chuwku's creations. The use of the word gods is erroneous and I'll explain why. Odinala, according to my school of thought, is a type of spirituality I call monotheistic animism. I say so because we recognize and acknowledge Chukwu and His presence in everything that exists. In other words there is Chukwu and every other being created by Chukwu is or has mmuo. That's why we can directly connect with the mmuo that dwells within a tree or a rock or a stream or an animal. Even we as mmadu nwe kwa mmuo, and that's what would be venerated as ndi iche after we are long gone because our bodies would wither and decay, but our mmuo lives on. So as ndi Igbo, we don't necessarily have that distinction between God and gods. We have God which is Chukwu and we have spirits which is mmuo. And all spirits share in the divinity of Chukwu because every spirit also has a Chi. And this brings me to my second point. Now, some spirits have been identified and acknowledged as being worthy of one form of devotion or another. This is what we erroneously refer to as the gods. But you have to remember that Ogwugwu abulo alusi, ya na Agwu, na Ngene and the rest of them. Ha bu mmuo... that's what our ancestors knew them as. Any mmuo could attain this status if we see reasons why they should be acknowledged as such. That's where the different types of spirits come into play and this determines their deific status as well as manner and level of devotion. ...cont. Now my third point is this. As you have rightly said, alusi in itself is not a god or deity or whatever. Alusi is merely an energy point or a means or "device" used in channeling the energy and essence of of an mmuo or groups of mmuo as the case may be. NB, I use the word deity(ies) for the sake of relational convenience as I try to distinguish between one form of spirit from the other, hancha niile bucha mmuo. Of course you know we have different types of deities like the agbalas which are primordial entities and are in most cases custodians of different aspects and domains of creation like Amadioha, the Lord of the Sky, Ala, the earth Mother and ruler of the land etc. These are non human spirits and have existed since the beginning of creation. We have the deified ancestors or ndi iche, which are human spirits that have attained the level of great and mostly communal devotion like your dearly beloved Edo Nnewi, and we have other forms of mmuo which are neither here nor there. They could be high vibration or low vibration entities but would need to be specifically channeled through their respective "alusis". As a dibia you know what I mean. Notice how I never used the word worship, let's talk about it as my fourth point. I strongly believe that as ndi Igbo we DO NOT worship these beings. We have deep devotion to them and a transactional kinda relationship with them. Worship entails total "non negotiable" surrender and submission of ones will, wellbeing and devotion to a divinity. We don't kneel down or bow down to any spirit. rather we sit and converse with them, almost as equals, bearing in mind their divine nature and according them their due reverence. Yes we offer sacrifices, but not because it would necessarily make them happy, but because we (us and the mmuo) would mutually benefit from that sacrifice. We expect something in return, either directly or indirectly. Let me stop here for now. I was preparing to use these points on my own video on a similar topic for my page, but I'm happy to share my ideas for the sake of the collective effort towards taking Odinala to greater heights. Remember, these are my points of view based on my school of thought. I'm not negating your views, I'm only offering a different perspective on the same matter. Polytheism is simply admitting the existence of other Gods. In Monotheism, there is no admittance. Ndi Igbo believe in plurality of Gods. This is an undisputed fact.

Could you through more light on some Alusi that still ask for sacrifices from family members even when they are not interested anymore and how can such people free themselves. For instance, ife nwele ike gbaa na afa, na nna nna fibelu alusi ego mana onweghi onye n'atulu ya aja na nya ka ife ji Adaa aga n'ilu.

It's not all Alusi that were created through people willingly sacrificing themselves. Some created with people kidnapped and used without their consent. Some were created with animals/roots. There are many ways to the river. What is used in creating an Alusi is at the discretion of the instituting human party.

Akwali is an adjunct of Ogwugwu. Arobinagu simply means strength. Arobinagu is a man made power point. It's made with a specific mandate.
