I think the commentators are very fine and nice people. I would invite them for dinner without any hesitation. But as commentators, they are not very convincing. He has the perfect voice for the job and a lot of knowledge but he often just says things like "oh, very good". He describes the obvious. And sometimes, he sides with one player, which makes it boring to watch. She, as a former top player (what about him?), knows a lot about the game, too, but she appears as his sidekick, seldom initiates the conversation. For comparison: Adam Bobrow. He sets the gold standard right now. He is excited, funny, and fair, he talks a lot about technical things to explain the game, makes psychological observations about the players, he is interested in their cultures, invents funny nicknames. Okay, I am a huge fan. But good commentators are important to promote the sport.

Very poor comments from the hosts. Anyone watching this understands tables tennis. You cant just describe it as quick, fast or powerful. We need technical and tactical analysis. We need someone describing and someone trying to figure out where the match is going for both players. They could suggest tactics for the loosing side or just explain why one player is superior to the to other in terms of their strategy so they teach the audience or you could contrast your own view. You either swap these two commentators or tell them to change their approach.

Been watching LYJ in T2 repeatedly and try to work out how/why he'd played so well but only this time it clicked on me. Admittedly, he's got both strong top-level BH flicks and FH drives but noticed @1:46 his opponents couldn't return or counter his spin. However, vice versa also happened to Lin (very small chance coz he's usually got the point already) on counters. However, after T2, Lin seems to have lost this edge. BTW, most top players use short backspin serves that fall victim to his flicks (being lefty and able to BH flick even on his forehand side, tremendous advantage). Now, look at the table (not seen before to my knowledge or after) in T2. Think the surface is making the difference. Points to ponder, anybody?

Franziska needs to become a bit more versatile, then he could hold his own with the best on a regular basis. His main weapon is power, which isn’t always the best approach and the few times he tries to mix it up, it doesn’t really work out. If he worked on that and kept his power, he’d be a real machine.
