You're definitely by yourself when it comes to shorts. ALL of them say just bite the bullet and create them because this is what TH-cam University requires as a prerequisite to success on the platform. But you're right and I totally agree. Shoot, if I'm not mistaken, all those shorts views don't "really" count toward watchtime hours. So it's a waste of time for someone who is really trying to build a business.

Exactly!! the situation with Shorts should be talked about A LOT More! lol And yes I will do a TH-cam video about pivoting to a different niche. I have seen a few big creators do that and it's working for them!
Shorts don’t count on watch time hours but TH-cam does pay creators who make only TH-cam shorts as long as they have 1000 subs and 10M views in the past 90 days so people can get monetised even if they don’t share long videos

You will. It truly does the require consistency long term and continuing to perfect your craft.
So I’ve been doing long form videos and they’re doing well, so I post shorts in between and I’ve been wondering if the “related video” part of that is any help at all? I don’t want to keep posting shorts if I’m going to have two separate followings: my goal is to build community on my channel
If you continue posting shorts you will definitely have 2 different audiences to cater to. If you are looking to build a loyal community around your brand, in my opinion TH-cam Shorts are not going to be the way to do that. I hope this helps!

You can definitely test it out and take a look at the data. I haven't seen anyone show where people are cross pollinating from TH-cam Shorts over to the full video.
