I tell them how much I can afford (normally a 'sob' story about me being retired, etc.). Last time I 'only had' R50 000. The dealer immediately brought their 30000km Haval H1 price down (I had to explain to them it was an old model, discontinued, and therefore not worth much ...), they increased the trade in on my 130000km Picanto, and I paid them the R50 000. Deal done. YOU are in charge of the deal - YOU are the one with the money - not THEM.

This just happened to my friend. We were looking to buy Mazda 3 Astina, initially they offered an interest of 16%, but we negotiated and they said they would communicate with the bank - came back with 13.5% interest, and we were so happy. When we got to the dealership for a test drive and potentially sign the contract, the quote had R226 280 balloon from the R565 700 cash price, some extras of which were advertised as standard for Astina, 73 months instead of the 72 as agreed, and some ridiculous traffic fees/charges. The difference should obviously be around R350k yet the Installment was sitting at R10k. We walked away. Later sent them a long email questioning the quote, but till today nobody answered our email.

Great video Muzi. One other thing that I think people should know, it's the features that partucular model comes with. I am saying this because I recently bought a POLO life tsi but a base model. I noticed that it doesn't have rear speakers only front, twitters and sub, which is something strange.

Great advice Muzi, this is a good all encompassing video on car buying. Couple things though:
1. Whats your beef with the new Swift Design? Its not as adventurous as the 2017 design but the Swift is a car that doesnt change much. Im just glad its getting rear door handles below the belt line again. The engine is another matter but time will tell, looking forward to the Sport though.
2. What is your beef with the Spresso safety wise? Its not the one that got zero stars on Gnacap btw( which rightly deserved that score because it had no airbags). The export models while they dont have the bells and whistles like the home market(no DRL's for instance) they ensure they pass muster safety wise.
3. The Rumion, like all of the twins gets shortchanged spec wise because Toyota SA knows people will buy it just because of the badge in droves, just look at the previous Starletversus the Baleno which was a better car all round but more people opted for the Starlet.

May you please do a clip on how people not fall in a trap of buying substandard tires, especially from dealers that don't have tread enforce. Hope I got the spelling right. Bought 4 tires, two were substandard from a big company, had to go to another company to find out what was the problem, treads of the tires were not 100% in contact with the surface, hence the bouncing effect.

Please touch on the issue of buying a previous generation top of the range model, over a mid range new generation model. A dealer almost made me buy a previous generation wildtrak when I could get a new generation XLT. It was gonna be the biggest mistake of my life.
Mistake in what way? This boils down to preference, as Muzi said new models usually have latest Tech and upgraded safety, but nothing more than that

Hello Muzi,what's your take on car rental dealership versus normal dealerships on second hand car?
💡Fun Fact: Some "Normal" dealers get used cars from rental companies😊 My first car was an ex-AVIS rental but I bought it from an Audi dealership.
*Fun Fact No. 2*
Rental companies actually have a contract with manufacturers for stock on particular models. I was in charge of all new stock coming in for VW in cape town and a batch of fleet containing Polo's, Tiguan's, Polo sedan's etc.. were for Avis car rental. Same for other manufacturers. These rental companies actually have their own service cente on site and stamp the books. Depending on the models, most of the cars only have a life span on rental for approx 60 000kms and then get put up for sale on the market through auctions for other dealerships to buy. Unfortunately you have to have a registered dealership in order to participate in the auction and is not open to public. If it was you could pick up a VW Polo Vivo with less than 60 000kms on the clock and full service history for less than a second hand Vivo with high mileage on a second hand dealership floor 😂
