Sometimes I'll hear a brand new song by someone I've never heard and feel absolutely nothing, and exit the video before the first line of the chorus. And then there's now. The tears welling up 'till suddenly there's too many too hold.
I don't know whether to cry or melt... Such ambience, creating such a wonderful peace. An incredible talent that continues to be the best kept secret in Art.
I fall in love with this everytime I hear it. Man please gift us with your beautiful music, I got to see you a couple years back and you’re too great to be hiding away!
Amazing song! I know he wrote this about the first time he met his wife but for some reason it also reminds me of the film "The Broken Circle Breakdown" to some extent (a great film by the way)
His asshole-ish persona is very much so an aspect of his musicianship and lyricism. “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apt” is very much so a deconstruction if his own issues and negative behaviors framed as the critique of a former lover, as well as songs like “The Ideal Husband” where he just flat out lays out how much of a dick he can be. It’s refreshing, in a weird way, but without the framing and filtering of it musically, it’s easy for that persona to be irritating or unlikeable, in the same way Kanye’s interviews get railed but his music is loved.
LYRICS: We met in a parking lot Was buying coffee and cigarettes Firewood and bad wine long since gone But I'm still drunk and hot, wide awake Breathing hard But now, in just one year's time I've become jealous Rail-thin, prone to paranoia when I'm stoned 'Cause isn't true love "someone oughta put me in a home?" Say, do you wanna get married And put an end to our endless regressive tendency to scorn? Provincial concepts like your dowry and your daddy's farm For love to find us of all people I never thought it'd be so simple Let's buy a plantation house and let the yard grow wild Till we don't need the signs that say, "Keep out" I've got some money left and it's cheaper in the South I need someone I can trust to protect me From our seven daughters when my body says, "Enough!" Don't let me die in a hospital, I'll save the big one for the last time we make love Insert here, a sentiment re: our golden years All 'cause I went to the store one day "Seen you around, what's your name?"
So am I reading this wrong? Is the whole song some grand romantic telling of what their lives will be like, but at the end you realize that he is telling her all this upon initially meeting? By saying I've seen you around, what's your name. If so its a really funny punchline at the end of a beautiful song.
JcGrubbsFilms It starts out with him looking back at when they first met. He was just buying coffee and cigarettes. Then he looks to the present and in one years time, he's become jealous, and prone to paranoia when he's stoned. Saying he cares about her and loves her. Then he looks to the future and talks about living in the south with her and letting the grass grow out. And these revelations are a result of that fateful meeting. Which causes him to look back at that small little moment, where he decided to talk to her and said, "Ive seen you around, what's you're name?"
I've been a fan since fear fun, covered lots of those songs, and this was probably my favorite recorded live performances of any of his work thus far. Probably unfair to say, but fuck it.
His guitar work sounded really nice. Does anyone know if he is playing a Gibson southern jumbo banner acoustic? That's what it kind of looks like. Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back and sides. As opposed to a J-45 which has a bit of a different finish and Sitka top.

God, I can't even imagine what it feels like to be loved that much.
I hope you understand one day.
you don't want to be, because it hurts 10 fold when it leaves.

Maybe my favorite love song of the last 20 years.
when his wife came into focus I kinda melted, what a beautiful shot.
She looks like Oscar Wilde.
This whole song makes me cry. I kind of love when you can see how much an artist loves someone by how much their music changes.
Beautiful is all you can really say. It's hard to describe really.
That's music for you ssssarah, it's some potent stuff
Made me so happy to see Emma sitting there listening so intently :)
She looks like an angel!
I haven't been in love in years, but this song helps me remember the feeling.
Love the Emma shot.
Her introduction was perfect: "For love to find.. us (both in the shot) of all people..." Had me welling, it was so beautiful.
Holy shit. This guy's a freaking genius.
As in "Holy Shit"? Exactly :]

Being his wife I would literally cry my eyes out
Far and beyond the most beautiful song JT has ever written, if you ask me.
Right like all the lyrical wittiness of FJM but so much more sentimental than most of his material
I just love the way Emma looks at him. I've seen it several times in videos. So supportive and loving.
The strangest part to me is how the accordion player looks at him during the performance. It makes me feel uncomfortable and I don’t know why.

"Don't let me die in a hospital, I'll save the big one for the last time we make love" wow, just wow
When this song came out I wanted this to be first played in my wedding. Along with some of his other songs
i saw him live yesterday and he played this as an encore and man so good
This is great story telling but one can only wonder if love like this is still alive and true. I can only hope I’ll find love like this.

La Blogotehque has Done it Again. Thank You! This Performance and Video are Straight Legendary!
Waited a month for a good version of this to appear on TH-cam, and this exceeded expectations.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SICKO MODE! THE FARMER AT IT AGAIN!
I'd say I'm responsible for about 186,717 views of this video. It's absolutely sublime. Instant faith in humanity restored.
One of the best "take away show"s ever. Without a doubt.
Love the shot of his wife at the end.

This song is so beautiful it made me cry
it made so much sense when i heard he was from fleet foxes
His new album is out today, and Its perfect.
I should not have watched this on the bus home. Emotional turmoil is not fun in public, people.
MmmHmm i wish i would meet someone listening and loving Misty in the bus.
MmmHmm I have this exact same problem.
Car careful with funny stuff, too. Sudden bouts of hysterical laughter on an otherwise silent bus - AWKWARD.
I get chills every time.

beautiful.
My shivers are real
this is TOTALLY like his old music. he's singing in that "j tillman" voice kind of as opposed to his "sexy" funnier FJM voice.
He still added the cosmic punchline he left out of the Tillman albums.
Daniel Gilleland Cosmic punchline....great way of putting it. Couldn't have said it better myself. Josh is a goddamn genius
+Nicolas Curcio the cosmic joke, Tillman said was the inspiration for this grossly authentic inauthenticity of his pseudo character
The goal in life is to have someone look at you like is happening at 4:48
That was beautiful 💕
he is the real deal
wow... that was perfect in every way.
Perfect.
well that was pure
"But I'm still drunk and hot wide awake and breathing hard." Perfect.
Can't say I really like FJM's personality in interviews, but he has some damn good songs. This and Holy Shit are probably my favorites.

Partial to his earlier lyric "we could live like kings down in the South" over "it's cheaper in the South." Of course, the latter is more demystified.
