I still find myself coming back to this video every so often as the years go by... The feeling it invokes in me each time is just like the first time... So indescribably beautiful.
i’m incredibly saddened to hear kelsey will be leaving local natives, he brought so much depth to local natives and made it part of what i loved the most about this band, the high pitch parts, i grew up with these guys and they helped me through so many troubling times in high school, i remember trying to match kelsey and his high pitched parts, i loved his song coins, i will incredibly miss you being a part of the band kelsey, im crying as i write this cause god they are what gave me my love for music ❤
I hope you got a chance to see them live. I just caught their last tour here… so sad that it will be the last time. Perhaps, for a while at least. Epic band and a defining one in my life.
This moment in time had such an impact on me. I had moved away to a city that was unfamiliar. I was nervous and trying to fit in. I was in college. During this time I met who I thought was going to be the love of my life. When I first met him, he showed me this video. I felt so deeply connected to it because of that moment. Years later, I still feel deeply for every second of this video. It didn't work out in the end, but every time I even slightly get reminded of this video/song I get chills. This video to me is a time capsule in a way. I don't think there will ever be a time, until the day I die, where I don't think about the moment I discovered this song/video and how beautiful this song is. I feel like we all have that one song or video that reminds of us a certain moment in time. Kind of the same way a smell can give us flashbacks to certain memories. Thank you to everyone involved in making this because it has impacted me in more ways than I can put into words, and to me that is art.
Vocals are top shelf The introduction of each musical layer is genius Deep and thought provoking songwriting just brings it all together A true diamond in the rough I love it Thank you for sharing
My girlfriend and I share music, she shared this band. And believe it or not that is one of the main reasons I love her. She understands something is huge in my heart, music. The Local Natives, know how to play real music.
My ex gf and I shared music, now I listen to it with tears in my eyes but extremely happy for all the love we shared. I sincerely hope that you feel the same way I did for 8 happy years
The build up of the song is absolutely amazing and the vocals, the instruments, the sound in its entirety just takes me to another place. My Favorite band
I've been going down Down into the river baby Listen to the sound It's something only god knows You figure it out, I can't stay Water's in the clouds Is my life about to change? Who knows, who cares So we took a van down to colorado Where we ran into the dead I took you by the hand Know that even with your doubts, it's ok Take into account that it's not about to change Who knows, who cares You could let it down Jump into the river baby Easy as it sounds It's never quite as easily done The current has us now, it's ok Take into account that it's all about to change Who knows, who cares No one's been there But I don't care I know all have been there I don't care I know
This may be the only group I've seen on these Take Away Shows that is able to develop a really "full" sound. They really make an effort to really develop their sound and I love it.
I can't believe this is 12 years old & it's the first time I seen this!!! One of my fave songs by them, next to Airplanes.... My brother's next door neighbor was a cousin to a member of the band & gave him a CD of their music, before they got popular, he didn't play it & she would asked more than once, if he listened to it, he just assumed, they were some local, no talent band. Finally, he listened to it & was so glad he did!! He recommended them to me, but I was already hip to them.... I dig their voices, their drumming, their uniqueness-They sound like no other....
love the camera captain. Starts with uncomfortable introductions. Moves to a cool place that should be quiet. Then the song,. A motha fudda sound. Syncopation and then human harmonics. Well done.
My son showed me this video, im 48. You guys are awesome, a perfect blend of talent, the tenor has the timing of Frank Sinatra . Made me want to sing again. Didnt work out as planned.
To build on the other comments here - La Blogothèque you have introduced me to so many great bands, and have shown me my favorite bands in a wonderful new light. There are not enough thanks in the world, please never stop!
I love how this just shows that every instrument, every member of the band, plays an integral part to the song. Everything just layers together to make it complete. Without each member doing their part, it just wouldn't sound the same.
Did I purchase tickets to Arcade Fire and the National just to see Local Natives? Hell yes I did and I'll always spend all the money when it comes to them.
This is how music should be experienced: you can't ignore it, but it doesn't get in the way. It's just there for a moment, and if you are so inclined to take a listen, you get everything you want out of it.
This song is chock full of amazing moments, but my favorite is at the 5:08-5:15 mark where our moustached friend Taylor opens the gates to musical heaven.
I cry, I tremble, I weep to long for the days of musical moments like this one. This video, I watch from time to time throughout the years, and I am reminded of the beauty in people and public spaces. The sounds and echoes underneath the arcades in Paris by American musicians transcends an architect's dream.
I will never get tired of watching this... I feel shivers evrey time! Local Natives is so talented.. and the «A take away show» concept is just awesome... LOVE LOVE LOVE
I just found this song coincidently this week, I've never heard of the local natives before, I took a chance to listen to this song, boy am I so glad I did , life changing song. It touches the human heart in so many ways. Definitely my fav song so far, I wonder if they come to Texas? I can't seem to stop playing this song over and over!
The Blogotheque recordings of this decade showcased so many musicians I still listen to, from Redding Hunter/Peter and the Wolf, to Jared Van Fleet/Sparrow House (Where is the: Paris, Lost in Texas recordings 😢, Bon Iver, Phoenix, Alt-J ...so many artists Thank you Blogotheque team
This is my first time hearing this band. I must say I freakin love their style. Also how the hell does this only have 1 million views while Taylor swift's video has 800 million. WTF!
TIL that the bassist here front a band called "Melted Bodies" that I can only describe as System of a Down, Oingo Boingo, Queens of the Stone Age, The B-52s, and about 50 others bands melted together into one and I had to share this news.
That girl just really added a great touch to this video. I am so in love with the version of the song, especially Ryan's part (the part he practices in 6:27).
i had an audio rip of this on my ipod when i was in high school and i always hated listening to the beginning of it where they're all just shooting the shit and laughing it bothered me so much i thought they were probably assholes. now i see it and the annoying audio paired with the visual after these years is such a weird experience.
In 2010 I dragged my friend in the blazing sun to see their daytime set at Coachella after hearing only sun hands and feeling that there was something special about this band. I’ve never seen a show where I don’t know the songs and am surprised when they close with the hit (sun hands) and yet I found myself surprised. Mesmerizing talent, perfect harmonies, I feel so lucky to have seen them so much as they were rising to where they are now. I would love to see them again for $15 at a dive bar in Santa Barbara or with a parched throat and empty water bottle at 3pm under the unforgiving desert sun. I will gladly see them at the Hollywood Bowl or some huge venue now if someone buys my ticket haha.
Everything melds so beautifully- three guitars, three voices and two drums! Also for some reason, the video editing does my head in; in that one long shot of them performing, how did the shot seamlessly go from behind Taylor to behind Matt?! And then it pans up and there's no one behind Taylor! whaaat.
I’ve been coming back to this song every year since this was posted. Saw them play live when they originally formed. This song is so well captured and just can’t get enough!!
And all the beautiful synergistic sounds would come converging upon us; and the gods would count us fortune's chosen, for we had experienced transcendence in the the voices of the children.

@local natives I shared this song with my best friend back in 2011 and she fell in love with it, then in 2014 she shared this with her husband, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 after her first born son, she passed in late 2017. This song will forever be a staple in my heart and I now play this for her memory. ❤️❤️❤️
Omg I'm that little girl with the curly hair!! I remember that day!!
that's amazing! nearly 7 years ago.
No way, really?! That's awesome :D

Tu penses toujours que c'est "toujours la même chose"? haha
Thats pretty awesome. Did you know what was about to happen or was this just some random shopping trip?

Same...this was before i entered to collegue ,now i am a doctor and i keep coming
Fucking same. Blows me away. So many changes through the years.
13 now. Welcome back
I've never heard a band that sounded so much better out of a studio than in it.
+presmadagascar Really? because I love their studio recordings too
+presmadagascar look up ben howard
the tallest man on earth is also a ton better live
That Red Rocks performance was incredible
That was my first thought when looking up their other stuff too.
Omg I'm that old man with the gray hair! I remember this day 💕
I still find myself coming back to this video every so often as the years go by... The feeling it invokes in me each time is just like the first time... So indescribably beautiful.
that sweet little girl in the background will never know how lucky she is to have had witnessed this live
If you mean the girl at the end, trust me she knows, she's my friend and you can find her in the comments❣
Listening to this some 13 years later had me bawling. This recording is a gem.
From 2011 to 2019, I have watched this video many, many times. It has brought me joy in the good times and in a tear in the bad times.
very happy to know that i'm not the only one who does this :')
It’s my favorite video on TH-cam. I love these guys so much.
This is a special video and also a special comment here.
Glad I’m not alone bc same
This song really moved me in my formative years.
Thousand times better than the recorded version.

Where can i find a girl friend like yours
damn i'm lonely
they're probably broken up.
Believe it or not that's what I look for in a guy to feel the same lyrics like I do
My ex gf and I shared music, now I listen to it with tears in my eyes but extremely happy for all the love we shared. I sincerely hope that you feel the same way I did for 8 happy years

Same. And still watching in 2021. I would love the audio of this.
This version is better than the studio version.
Every time I see/hear this it gives me hope for the world. ❤
I've been going down
Down into the river baby
Listen to the sound
It's something only god knows
You figure it out, I can't stay
Water's in the clouds
Is my life about to change?
Who knows, who cares
So we took a van down to colorado
Where we ran into the dead
I took you by the hand
Know that even with your doubts, it's ok
Take into account that it's not about to change
Who knows, who cares
You could let it down
Jump into the river baby
Easy as it sounds
It's never quite as easily done
The current has us now, it's ok
Take into account that it's all about to change
Who knows, who cares
No one's been there
But I don't care
I know all have been there
I don't care
I know
What a polite, nicely dressed, attractive, incredibly talented group of men. Listening to this feels like being hugged.
you guys introduced me to my favorite band 3 years ago. I'll never forget.

I can’t believe but can believe this small disc that was burned to me back in the day would have millions of views on TH-cam. This band is such a gem.
When the beat kicked in at 3:26 I knew everything was gonna be okay in my day.
Ryan's guitar part.......ughghhh so good
love the camera captain. Starts with uncomfortable introductions. Moves to a cool place that should be quiet. Then the song,. A motha fudda sound. Syncopation and then human harmonics. Well done.

I bet it was worth it!!! Watch an amazing local natives set, nap through the national, and then see arcade fire who are incredible live.
Honestly one of the songs that got me through a bad graduate school experience. But I made it! Thank you local natives!!
Best version of this song
This is how music should be experienced: you can't ignore it, but it doesn't get in the way. It's just there for a moment, and if you are so inclined to take a listen, you get everything you want out of it.
I love that they have to hold Kelcey back in the beginning lol

I think that this just might be my favourite performance...ever.
This song is chock full of amazing moments, but my favorite is at the 5:08-5:15 mark where our moustached friend Taylor opens the gates to musical heaven.
First Discovered them years ago, and last night I sang with Taylor on his mic and we gave each other an endearing hug. Best night ever!!!

Was 23 when i heard this now im 33 and I still get the goosebumps everytime.
i like how the drummer freaks out even before they started the show.
I just love it when he gives the little girl a head nod at 2:54 and she just seems so happy
this is ethereal. better than the recorded version
6:44 Even after one listen, the melody is infectious and sticks with you ❤️
This gave me shivers. SHIVERS, I TELLYA!
Probably the best band I’ve ever heard live. The way their vocals go together is beautiful.
I will never get tired of watching this... I feel shivers evrey time! Local Natives is so talented.. and the «A take away show» concept is just awesome... LOVE LOVE LOVE
2:53 for some reason that bow put a tear in my eye...theres still hope for humanity.
I still remember seeing this and falling in love instantly with this band. And to this day, this video still gives me chills.
When the second drummer picks up it all just comes together which then causes me to have a complete and utter mind exploding eargasm.
Cannot wait to hear them live in an intimate type of venue. Great artists

Putting two of my favourite things together; Local Natives & La Blogotheque.

I always come back to this video for a pick-me-up. I always get overwhelmed for some reason, it builds up so beautifully.
Chalie Day on the drums has some pipes
I love the lady towards the end when they make a circle and she's grinning from ear to ear. That's the power of music. :)
I cant stop watching this ._.
I’ve been coming back to this song every year since this was posted. Saw them play live when they originally formed. This song is so well captured and just can’t get enough!!
This version is so much better than the official MV.
And all the beautiful synergistic sounds would come converging upon us; and the gods would count us fortune's chosen, for we had experienced transcendence in the the voices of the children.
this made me cry! damn it!!! so good!
One of the ALL-TIME BEST performances EVER!!!
I love the song! I love the idea! You guys are amazing 😊
Thank you !
This is sooooo beautiful. @2:53 she was so mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the angelic sounds that are being played.
this song sounds much better played slower like how it is in the video
...It's faster in the video...
isitunez No it's not, it's way slower. Most parts are drawn out an extra measure.
I properly checked (as my comment was a result of hazy comparison) the video again.
Sorry! I got my 4th and 8th note 'placements' wrong.
Because of the way I interpret the 'feel' of the songs I interpret this song to be 'faster' in rhythm even though factually it is indeed, slower. My apologies!
isitunez apology not accepted
