Thanks for this video. I just bought one of these old Craftsman lawn tractors c/w the replacement cable. So I needed to know where/how it installed.
Thanks for the video. Just ordered a cable from Amazon. Wish they would make that clip out of metal instead of plastic.
I take a small zip tie or you can use a small hose clamp and go around the plastic clip to help it last longer.
Gotta change my cable today. Never done it, I believe this was explained just right hahaha 😂 #NothinToIt 🤙

It's called the deck clutch cable when you go to search. I had to replace mine because the mower belt rubbed against the spring and broke the clip off the pully!
I like watching this to laugh my butt off while I figure out what a battery is and where my wand went.

Does having the pto lever not being able to move to engage have something to do with it needing a new cable or could the engagement pully be frozen?

at 7:05 how do you turn it so its pointed upwards, i can not for the love of me get it to turn at all without busting it.
I'm glad mine has a steel ink inkage instead of a crappy cable.

Freedom on your LT1000 when you increase your engine speed do your blades spin the same speed or faster
I never noticed. I put the throttle in detented position to run it. My guess is at lower engine rpm's it will bog down. I do notice that my belt slips upon first engagement and then it picks up once the blades spin up. But that just means I have an old stretched out belt.
Video doesn't show the spring attaching to spindle. That's where mine broke, it seems obvious, but still, why not include that shot?

Lol. The overall length doesn't matter. There's room to tuck away the extra. What matters is the amount of bare cable exposed, as it is that length that determines the throw or range of operation. That length is actually the same if you look closely.
I kind of thought maybe the cable stretched out over time and but 2 in is quite a bit. But I do know there's a lot of slack in it. Mine just broke. Then I'm always replacing those stupid front linkages

It's the throw, or how long the exposed part of the cable, that matters. The overall length doesn't matter (as long as it can get from the lever to the spring on the other end).

I’m sorry to have to tell you this but, that shifter knob don’t come out that easy! How you did that I’ll never know because it looks like you skipped the part where you actually took it out and you did the same thing puttin it back in! If you’re gonna show people how to do things why don’t you show them the right way instead of telling them the battery is where the gas tank is! JMO
Obviously I did that for comedic effect. The knob screws off in a counterclockwise direction.
