people need to stop turning off cameras when cops order them to do so. There is no laws against recording in the general public, including cops. pure intimidation
The title of this video is pretty misleading, I came actually expecting to learn about why Paladar was illegal, instead I watched a bunch of douchebag chefs have a fun night out. And what was the point of interviewing them about the night? Like, "Yeah we went out and got drunk and ate food with some friends, it was fun." So what? God damn this was a waste of time.
Nyiddle Paladar was illegal because it wasnt a restuarant; it was someones home, with no inspection nor licenses to sell alcohol or food. That was a given really.
i get that its illegal because they dont pay taxes or are inspected and shit but i thought it was going to be cooler than that... like they served fucking foie gras, horse meet, and shark fin soup or something like that. Those restaurants do exist thats what i thought this was going to be. Not just some college kids who can make decent food.
why is it in LA so many people act like this shit has never been done before and is so "totally" new. Wolvesmouth destroys this pretentious BS any day.
I respect the hell out of underground ventured such as this. I wonder if they will ever switch to being legit (even though they are already legit) but you get it.
Wu Wei With red wine you hold the bowl of the glass, the warmth of your hand enhances the aroma, taste bouquet of the wine, that's why reds are served at room temp and decanted prior to pouring, whites and champagne hold the stem and serve chilled. They might have been making an inside joke mocking snobs or else they just are clueless
This is the first video I've watched in a LONG time that has made me say "that's awesome" within the first couple seconds, I love the idea, cant knock the kids for being entrepreneurial... As a 23 year old who's time in college is over I'm sad I never thought of something like this...
"by the stem bro" no mate you only hold the wine glass by the stem if it is chilled white wine so you don't warm it up with your hand, red wine is usually already room temperature so it doesn't matter.
I seen something similar to Paladar, on Bizzare Foods America. There were a couple of friends in, San Fransisco I believe, who did a monthly dinner. It was booked in advanced and, the courses consisted of foods they foraged. It was $100 a plate. I would love to experience something like this. Perhaps someday someone in my area will pick up on this idea.
I'm late for the train, but these guys seem like decent folks and I had to say something. It's awesome that they were able to channel their passion for cooking into a more legitimate and profitable platform. Although the speak easy friends list for a neighborhood feast sounds like fun I am glad the food is now within reach of the everyguy.
If it's a small, non profited dinner service for friends it's not really breaking any laws, but when you start having regular, 50 people dinners for profit without any health and safety coverage, insurance, FDA approval nothing like that and you're actively avoiding taxable profits then it becomes illegal.
No. He doesn't have to turn off the camera. There is no law that states he has to turn off the camera. State the law that says he has to turn off the camera. Subsections and titles would be nice.
Believe it or not....I remember when some people had restaurants in their houses waaaay back when I was a kid in the 70's. Well, I wouldn't really call 'em restaurants, but you could buy and eat food there.
Watching this in my last semester of college trying to figure out ways to make fun cool stuff happen before I am officially an adult! All ideas welcome!
Find a hustle you can stick with and try to make money off that. Don’t follow the BS ethos of “do what you love”. Having a steady income that doesn’t make you wanna blow your brains out far supersedes anything else
And you wonder why police have so many "accidental and unnecessary shootings" and take things from 0 to 100 real quick......How about serving and protecting the community without being so dang defensive for no reason.....ridiculous!
"Bunch if people from 'Lazy Ox' came; bunch of people from 'Animal' came" These damn 'trendy' names. Went to a bar called 'Shelter' and it had no fucking roof. It was a cieling of open windows. Damn you, California. Tell me who would take Shelter there?
IF YOU HAVE ACCES TO FERNTER::: IN A BIG GLASS, %20 FERNET, %80 COCA-COLA ( SERVE THE COCA REALLY SLOW) AND SOME ICE. THAT HOW WE DRINKIT IN ARGENTIAN. ITS DELICIOUS!!!
stevie torrance I think it may have to do with restaurants having to be approved by federal regulations or things like that. I don't know, but just a guess.
stevie torrance They would have to pay the city to for a restaurant licence, liquor and have their kitchen inspected. It has to do with city regulations not federal regulations.
people need to stop turning off cameras when cops order them to do so. There is no laws against recording in the general public, including cops. pure intimidation
182parker Can't he say "I don't authorize you to film me." since I've seen that work for audio recordings.
182parker Since when have laws stopped cops?
Keety Mang Since when have laws stopped HUMANS? Jesus, people are ignorant as fuck.
182parker lol u saw what happened to sandra burns?
ColeTrain4EVER no, because you don't need his authorisation.
you can tell a cop is going to be corrupt when he tells you too turn off your camera
+Nolan Macpherson you realize that part is fake, right?
why would you think it's fake?
MrGrizmint
you just assume that everything which is filmed is fake then without any reason or justification?
To be honest the part with the cop did seem really fake.
I've been told to turn off my camera in LA before when filming cops.. so it could be real.
Wtf is Rhett doing cooking
lol oh I love you Internet.
+Inferno Scorpion YES HE DOES LOOK LIKE RHETT! I JUST COMMENTED THAT! LMAO! Thanks, now I know I am not crazy.
lmao I knew he looked like Rhett
I thought you guys were talking about Rhett Ellison, who played football at USC (now in the NFL).
a year too late :((
Stop turning off the camera when a cop says so. No law against it
+AndrewKidd14145 you realize that part is fake, right?
+AndrewKidd14145 that was staged, calm down jumpy
Staged or not doesn't make a difference, his comment still stands.
Half mexican/ half chinese........Dude was created to cook

fantastic idea of serving broke college students some good decent quality food. And probably the best civilized way to meet, greet and dine! Good job
Nyiddle chill fatfuck
Alienman1212 he does have a point
Nyiddle Paladar was illegal because it wasnt a restuarant; it was someones home, with no inspection nor licenses to sell alcohol or food. That was a given really.
+Nyiddle you idiot that's the point of the whole series! lol
no the title clearly says a night out with the crew ...it did not promise to explain the legality of the restaurant
The one guy looks like Rhett from Good Mythical Morning

NEVER turn off the camera when a cop says that BULLSHIT!!! NEVER!
I was pretty disappointed to see vice turn their camera off so easily....
i get that its illegal because they dont pay taxes or are inspected and shit but i thought it was going to be cooler than that... like they served fucking foie gras, horse meet, and shark fin soup or something like that. Those restaurants do exist thats what i thought this was going to be. Not just some college kids who can make decent food.
Yeh. Like why are they risking jail time and shit when they could easily just get thi's place lisenced
because they are cheap fucks avoiding taxes and other expenses such as real estate and utilities by using their home.
They dont make any money off it tho
why is it in LA so many people act like this shit has never been done before and is so "totally" new. Wolvesmouth destroys this pretentious BS any day.
Yes, the pretentious vibe is strong...
I respect the hell out of underground ventured such as this. I wonder if they will ever switch to being legit (even though they are already legit) but you get it.
I thought they were gonna be cooking human and shit not dodging taxes.
Dude looks like a Hawaiin Marshawn Lynch
By the stem, bro!
That was great, haha.
He was telling him to hold a glass of red wine by the stem? Was he joking or just stupid
Dun wood I mean, technically that is how you're meant to hold a glass of wine. But he was joking.
Dun wood Yeah, i'm pretty sure they were just mocking snobs/messing around.
Alex is the most beautiful man I've ever seen.
This is the first video I've watched in a LONG time that has made me say "that's awesome" within the first couple seconds, I love the idea, cant knock the kids for being entrepreneurial... As a 23 year old who's time in college is over I'm sad I never thought of something like this...

i love having rich parents and being trendy
hey man that’s crazy. but I don’t remember asking
If you are being recorded by police, you CAN record them !
actually the word Paladar is a spanish word that describes the total conglomerate of all the taste buds on the human tongue.
Not really. It's both. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/paladar
"by the stem bro"
no mate you only hold the wine glass by the stem if it is chilled white wine so you don't warm it up with your hand, red wine is usually already room temperature so it doesn't matter.
You are wrong. You always grab it by the stem. Our body temperature is higher than the wine needs to be. So if you grab it wrong you are heating it
This gotta be the gayest back and forth ever 😆
Wrong, you hold all wine by the stem even red wine.
What about wine glasses that have no stem?
Eewww that pig, why do people eat pigs? Pigs are the most disgusting animal in the world. Maybe it's just me but damn that's a nasty animal.
+Kareem CALI Why? Oh.. right, you're a muslim...
Wild pigs are disgusting
FATS BUCCHA Why?
Wild pigs eat trash, shit, deadbodys anything they see they will eat. Farm raised pigs eat corn, acrons wheat oats or fruit
+FATS BUCCHA Dead bodies?
So much negative judgement in the comments. Take a break y’all, it’s not that serious. Bitter Topangas everywhere.
This TH-cam comment section is savage af

Rich white boy saying that "kitchen guys" like caguama beer... SMH
I think this is awesome. This goes against all the rules in America. Good for you guys. Kick ass. Screw the health inspector.
restaurant kitchens are far dirtier than your typical home kitchen anyways
TheNomnomnommer This is so NOT true, at least not where I've worked.
I seen something similar to Paladar, on Bizzare Foods America. There were a couple of friends in, San Fransisco I believe, who did a monthly dinner. "They cook just 'I am drunk and hungry' food"
Words to live by
When the hell did a food hipster scene emerge?
I'm late for the train, but these guys seem like decent folks and I had to say something. It's awesome that they were able to channel their passion for cooking into a more legitimate and profitable platform. I don't see why it's illegal tho.

ErikTheOnlyCleric Yea it's illegal if you don't give the mafia their cut, and give pay them for protection.
the plot thickens
lol at the end "No drink it".... errr alright.... "BY THE STEM BRO!"
"Guy's I want to run a restaurant, but don't want to pay rent........I got it!"
Raise the stakes, serve human flesh…
the arrogance is just oozing from these guys
So this is what my neighbors are doing in the middle of night above me
I wish I lived interesting lives like these dudes....
Is this restaurant still open ?
Its "illegal" because they dont have business permit to operate legally. So basically they are simply glorified ambulance streetfood vendors
"Otherwise order whatever you want" Yeah no shit. Anyone can do that.
mtl blues stop stop. Your not top comment and never will be
They should cut people from gov assistance and then thousands of people would be doing things similar to what these guys have at USC. Great video.
No. He doesn't have to turn off the camera. There is no law that states he has to turn off the camera. State the law that says he has to turn off the camera. Subsections and titles would be nice.
food looked good, but the eyebrows were perfect
Believe it or not....I remember when some people had restaurants in their houses waaaay back when I was a kid in the 70's. Well, I wouldn't really call 'em restaurants, but you could buy and eat food there.
Alex Chang was also one of the best baseball players growing up in Santa Barbara. Great pitcher, hitter, outfielder
That cop is so nice and friendly ...."Turn off that camera, turn off the god dam camera." Disappointment
why did you turn off the camera?
was the intro staged?
you have the right to film in public places
That Kronfi guy looks like the non-evolved version of Rhett from Rhett and Link
they really showed that cop at 3:28
Watching this in my last semester of college trying to figure out ways to make fun cool stuff happen before I am officially an adult! All ideas welcome!

Woah. Definitely the nerdiest dudes I've seen on vice.
In australia... Ur allowed to film officers!! Why can't u there?!?!
I don't have any problem with avoiding government. But why don't they get a license?
I don't have any problem with avoiding government. But why don't they get a license?
cop at the beginning isn't allowed to make u put your camera away. its your right to record the swine.
Not my favorite. I would enjoy the documentary. Burp.
The night out looked really lame that white guy does not know how to party. Didn't even see him cooking at all.
15 bucks is a steal. That cutlet looks banging.
Alex reminds me of an Asian/Mexican Marshawn Lynch
Should've kept filiming the cop, I know its out of respect but you are by no means to turn off your camera
Ray97 fuck respect, cop doesn’t respect your rights
fernet: it's spelled fernè and there are better amaros out there trust me...fernè's still good tho
WHy is it illegal?
stevie torrance I think it may have to do with restaurants having to be approved by federal regulations or things like that. I don't know, but just a guess.
***** that make sense. Thats pretty stupid though
stevie torrance They would have to pay the city to for a restaurant licence, liquor and have their kitchen inspected. It has to do with city regulations not federal regulations.
stevie torrance It's not stupid. They have to pass health inspections and pay taxes.
+stevie torrance cuss they dont pay tax and they charge people.
does anybody know the name of the track or instrumental round 6:47 ??
Reminds me of the show How To Make It In America but with food.
surprised no one in the comment section saying something about the sex scene at 6:40
Not very informative of an episode...whatever
shitty episode...but the documentary seems to be interesting tho.
awww little dinner club like fight club for hipsters
I never you should charge friend money if you invite them for dinner
You never have to turn off a camera for a cop.
So how is this illegal?
You need a license to serve food to the public and pay taxes.
City regulations. You have to buy a license for a restaurant and a liquor license, pay taxes and have a health inspector inspect your kitchen.
I hope she choked on that gluten free Cheerios. Damn 30 sec ads
lol.... I guess these are the guys who don't know business.
now that it;s on internet. i wonder how long will it take for police to catch up :(
