This man was a true rock star of the Austrian people... he sold multiple gold records and the government even a commissioned a statue of him in the country's capital..
Mozart was edgy and rebellious and many people view him as the ‘rock star’ of his era. I always thought that this video seems to play on him being that rock star.
In Europe, there is a thing called "The Proms" concerts... This is where a renoun orchestra like the MET, or Danish Symphony (Good, Bad & Ugly TH-cam) do a Live Outdoor Concert Festival at a town's "PROMenade" or town square. Usually they do a full week of concerts w/ famed musical acts joining in for a night.... There is a TH-cam of Falco doing "Vienna Calling" with an Orchestra (Falco then made entire album _Symphonic_ with an orchstra, & another of Al Stewart doing _On the Border_ at a Proms concert w/ Belgian Symphony.)
Yes, the Falco version of Der Kommissar was SO GOOD. I hadn't heard it until recently actually. I was only familiar with After The Fire's version, which I loved. But I actually like Falco's version better.
Falco is from Vienna, Austria, not Germany. It is the first and so far only German-language song to reach the top of the charts in both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the British singles charts. Falkco is a national legend. Other famous songs are Jeannie, der Kommissar, Out of the dark, Emotinal....
Fun fact…..Mozart is the man behind Twinkle Twinkle Little Star…you’ve known about him all your life without knowing you did. Awwwww. 👏👏👏🥰 He was definitely the bad ass of his era.
I like the German versions of this and 99 Luftbaloons. There was something cool about the songs being in a foreign language back then. I never really wanted to know the translation. Do One night in Bangkok. That was a banger that still holds up. Fun song.
At the time there were two versions of this song. This version is the German version with very little English. There was also an extended American version that had a little bit more English in it, and a couple of more breakdowns. Backed then when you watched MTV, this was the version of the song you saw. But when you listen to the radio, it was usually the extended American version.
I was never a fan of the English version; as it was just someone talking. No rap, no rhyme, nothing, just the Rock Me Amadeus part. Boring. I thought the song was fire; it was creative as the man was. A perfect tribute
@@TheRatsCast That would be totally incorrect. Here's a lyric video detailing the actual words ... they are just not pronounced very well, but actually, the way he pronounces some of the words and his accent sounds pretty cool: (th-cam.com/video/wYvSEHZe340/w-d-xo.html ).
As an Austrian, somehow we are very proud of this. The only billboard no.1 from a non-english speaking Artist. I think till today! Falco was somekind of an austrian Bowie! The song is about Mozart and his punk life, but it is also a bit of Falco. It was cool, he died too young - the music is good. Listen to "Junge Römer" - great song, but you clearly see the bond to Bowies "Lets Dance" - and he was Austrian not German.
1984 was the peak of German music in the 1980s. In addition to Falco, Nina Hagen, Nena, Peter Schilling and, of course, The Scorpions 🦂 hit the World 🌎 Billboard charts. The late Falco, RIP, learned English by listening to rock 🎸 music with English lyrics. 2 years before that song, After the Fire 🔥 performed Der Kommisar with English lyrics. Ich sprechen Deutsche! For hip-hop heads like these guys, songs like Kraftwerk "Trans Europa Express" or George Kranz "Trommeltanz (Din Daa Daa)" are maybe the more important German songs because of its influence on hip-hop culture.
This is the original German video which gives you some small hint of the absolute carnage this track unleashed! 21 remixes doesn't even begin to cover it! "Rock Me Amadeus" was a genuine phenomenon back in the day!
U should listen and see “jeannie”, that song was forbidden for some years in Europe. I still love falcos music, also his last album (was published after he died) was a bomb!
I remember the version they played here in the U.S. At the end of the song the chorus was Baby, Baby Do, Do you Rock Me Baby, Baby Do, Do You Rock Me Baby. I used to love that part.

I remember this being a HUGE hit when it was released in the U.S. Doesn't matter that you didn't speak/know German. Yes it was a world hit. Sad when Falco died. On the movie side........ Amadeus...... it is a life story of Mozart who died a pauper at age 34 in the late 1700s. He was a child prodigy and at age 3 he was writing symphonies. He played for kings and queens. Yes, he was a superstar. Everyone went to his symphonies. He was a party animal. The movie (late 90s) has no connection of Falco's song. It won several Oscars including Best Movie. Very very excellent movie.
As a German kid, this was probably the first rap song I ever heard without knowing. FALCO was from AUSTRIA but was very popular literally everywhere. DER KOMMISSAR is as good as this one!
The Austrians are a very proud people. Austria is where Wolfgang AMADEUS Mozart was from, for some reason I think it was Salzburg that he was born in. Love Falco!! I was there in the 80s when he hit the scene. We LOVED it!! We had no idea what he was saying, but somehow we sang along : ) He was huge in Germany, moved to Dominican Republic in the 1990s. He was killed when his car collided w a bus, age 41. So sad. He was widely adored.
I loved this song when it came out,I'm old. And it is still today totally fantastic and the video is perfect. How can anyone find it scary? 😂❤ Hugs from Sweden.
There's an English version. I remember watching the video in the 80s. Both in German & English. I didn't have cable either. But there was a local independent TV station. That played videos on the weekends. Then there was Friday Night Videos on NBC, I think. I was (& still) a big DURANIE (DURAN DURAN fan). So I'd stay up every Friday night. He's actually Austrian, not German. I was obsessed with this song when it came out (I didn't have cable either, but it was in heavy rotation on the radio) - I had to buy the album when I went to Germany on exchange. Pleeeeeez do Adam Ant :) I think "Stand and Deliver" is a great place to start - really, it's pretty great.

Amadeus is the composer , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Great call, Phenom!!!!! Watch the movie about him that inspired this video- “ Amadeus”. It’s brilliant!❤

Anyway...Austrians hate to hear this but Amadeus Mozart was German. 😀 Falco was Austrian thou. You guys should do a review on the movie Amadeus from 1984, which won 8 Academy Awards
I'm gonna tell y'all how "HIP HOP" this song is... Back in 85-86 they used to play Amadeus at Club Latin Quarters in NYC. The first time I heard Amadeus they played the "flipside" (remixed rap version). The beat was a popular drum pattern at the time so it was usually mixed (blended) with the hook from *A Fly Girl - The Boogie Boys (1985)*. That night was the first time I saw the Beastie Boys! The very next week they played the (remixed rap) and (remixed Instrumental) back to back because the beat was so hard! I saw Biz Markie with Big Daddy Kane, Just Ice and DMX, Skinny Boyz, Mantronix, PSK, MC Search, DJ Red Alert and many more at the Latin Quarters and Rock Me Amadeus was played frequently!!
There was an English version of this song that was good too. I THINK it was under Falco but not sure. In 1984 the play Amadeus became a huge movie - and part of the premise was that he was such a rule breaker and with his attitude had he been alive in the 1980s he would've been a punk rocker or new wave musician. In the film he's a bit of a party animal and bucks the system. The film really brought a generation of kids to his music which is crazy - I mean, classical music!? I didn't know Falco passed away - RIP - he definitely made his mark. Great reaction as always.
Heyyy, sunglasses coming in with the education. Nice to see you know the classic music too. 😎 Another song that’s kinda crazy like this is Puttin’ on the Ritz by Taco. Yes, today you did Falco, next we’d like Taco. It’s a cover of the song written by Irving Berlin back in 1929! 😱 I think you guys will be throughly entertained and pleasantly surprised . It is VERY GOOD or it is VERY BAD! Nothing between! Falco was a Punk. Great Musician. To the day his music gives inspiration.! Listen to a band called "Bilderbuch"
There were some GREAT remixes of this back in the day. I was SO into 20" remix singles back in the 80's. I had a bunch of this song. I was kind of obsessed. I actually liked a couple of the remixes better than the "original". So I'm always a little disappointed that reactors always do this version. EVERY time I went to the mall, I went to the record store to buy some 20" singles. I wish I still had all those records.
Good evening guys!!!😁😁😁 I have 6 remix versions of this song.👍👍👍 When I was younger, my friend Richard (RIP) and I used to jam (dance) to this song.💙💙💙 Check out Der Kommisar next by Falco.😉😉😉

Exactly 👍 he spoke German but he was Austrian.
The same with Hitler
Hitler was Austrian and not German
@@BrianEscobar26 Very true but very unnecessary to compare those two...

When I was in Highschool the American remix ( English ) of this song got serious constant air play and it's still a banger to this day .
I think I was 18 when it came out. My best friend and I would go to bars (w/fake i.d) and that song was played over and over on the juke box.

Why wouldn't you do the English version? It was in the top 40 here in America.
falco is from austria...big star
Falco was the guy to bring Rap to German speaking countries in the mid-80s.
Good evening guys!!!😁😁😁 I have 6 remix versions of this song.👍👍👍 When I was younger, my friend Richard (RIP) and I used to jam (dance) to this song.💙💙💙 Check out Der Kommisar next by Falco.😉😉😉
Das cup 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Awesome!!
Ugh the German 'Nahmfallen'! That brings back nightmares! lol
You should know that he started in a shock rock band called Drahdiwaberl. Just look mad cat sadie or ganz wien (whole vienna (is on H) )
Falco was vom Austria, not from Germany ... but anyway: Did you know, that Germany has a very large Rap-/Hip-Hop scene in general, too? o_O
