Jason just seems like a genuinely great person, I still cannot understand why rest of Metallica did him so dirty. For me Jason is even more important than Cliff , those late 80´s - mid 90s Metallica gigs are something special, Jason was a BEAST! Especially live.
No doubt. I can’t and won’t get into the nuances of interpersonal relationships. I understand the narrative that the rest of the band “did him dirty”, but I don’t personally subscribe to it. I don’t think we can/will ever know the fine details of how it all went down. Suffice to say, it didn’t work out. But you’re absolutely right about Jason’s importance being right up there with Cliff’s. The fact is that Jason was part of Metallica during the 10-year span where they were at their absolute peak-and he was a big part of it. ‘89 - 2000 or so. They were the biggest, baddest, most epic band on the planet. I hope we get to see Jason play something with those guys again, just for old times sake.

It depends. I used own Rex Brown's main Spector NS5XL aka "Brownie" for many years and used it at gigs and on recordings during the time I had it, as my main axe. Sometimes it happens!
Yeah, most working musicians can't afford tens of thousands of dollars for a single instrument. These will definitely be bought by doctor/lawyer/investor types with more interests in aesthetics than music. It's really too bad, sad to think about.
I was a bassist in high school, just like every other metal kid. I LOVED Flotsam and Jetsam. Jason was the whole sound to me. When he went over to Metallica, I was blown away. He is the first bassist that played with a pick, that I thought was cool. Youre amazing Jason!

Obviously that's what you're alluding to. Hail AJFA (except for the production of it which cheated the bass sound out of the album). As for Rush, there's nothing better than Rush at times
Ah, those Alembics are beautiful. My one and only regret in all my years of bass & guitar playing is letting go of an Alembic Europa 4-string I briefly had back in the mid '90s. I didn't know enough to appreciate what I had and now Alembics are forever out of reach for me. Cheers to Jason - I got to see him play on the AJFA & Black Album tours and he was an essential part of what made them special.

I would love a video of him going through the history of his basses. From the BC rich in the flotsam photos, those ESPs he played briefly etc....
Just want to say that Jason is aging really well, he looks great and he's gotta be in his early 60s now. As someone in their mid-50s I can tell you it's a lot of work, discipline and dedication every day to achieve that, so whatever he's doing, it's really paying dividends. Aging can be hard, but you can really mitigate that and actually age well.

He likes it and had a story that went along with the bass in the video, but you live such a miserable life that you need to interject your hate and anger from years of bad choices into something nice that someone else was saying. I don't have a good answer on how to make it fair but eliminating collectors, business' etc is a start but probably impossible to control. I think sellers should settle on a FAIR valuation and do some type of lottery system so money doesn't rule over the "second life intentions". Sounds like he wants collectors prices but would love people to play them, which would devalue the instrument by use over time, it's one or the other mr newsted

Kind of what Alex Van Halen did a few months ago with his big sale, we all need to accept the fact rocks stars are human, aging and getting older just like everyone else. Nobody is going to be here forever. Jason is not a young man anymore and has an abundance of wealth and musical equipment he no longer needs. This is a win-win. Jason can get rid of a lot of extra shit he does not need or will use anymore, while being able to still see his gear go to his fans or the next generation to keep the music going.

As much as I grew up on Parliament I didn't know that Jason was such an early influence when my older cousin gave me the Black album on a CD when I was about 7.
I've been a big fan of Jason's since he joined Metallica in Sept of '86 and even with him now gone from the band for 23 years he's still awesome. He has a few pieces I'm interested in that he didn't show so I'll see if the one I want might go for sale. That one Alembic he mentioned first was used on the Seattle '89 video and he used it off & on on the '88-'90 Damaged Justice run.

As much as I grew up on Parliament I didn't know that Jason was such an early influence when my older cousin gave me the Black album on a CD when I was about 7.
I've been a big fan of Jason's since he joined Metallica in Sept of '86 and even with him now gone from the band for 23 years he's still awesome. He has a few pieces I'm interested in that he didn't show so I'll see if the one I want might go for sale. That one Alembic he mentioned first was used on the Seattle '89 video and he used it off & on on the '88-'90 Damaged Justice run.
