EnVogue was such a ideal, great group because they all could sing and they all took turns singing, there was never just one star in this group they all shared the spotlight with their talent.
I read somewhere earlier that Destiny's Child was the best harmonized female group. Puh'leeeeeze. Hands down! En Vogue shut it down here!!!! All 4 of them were competition to each other and it's rare that you find a group anywhere that can harmonize on cue.
I'd say DC was hands-down 2nd. At least of the generation their from. But 1st --- NO. They are all decent singers -- but Beyoncé is the ONLY 1 out-the-group who is a SUPERLATIVE solo vocalist. Kelly & Michelle are aight. Though I DO ❤ Kelly's debut album. Her only issue is she can't sing half-ass good live as she does on the studio. She always sounds tired, though she's the fittest of them all. Politics, i.e. Matthew being their manager/Beyoncé father, colorism in the industry & the Elite's agenda aside 😑, IF Kelly was as good vocally🎤 LIVE as Beyonce, she & Beyoncé would be equally matched cuz she can dance just as good as Beyonce' & she has a BEAUTIFUL tone & creative runs AND is as good a dancer 💃🏾 as B. If all things were equal, who fans like would simply be a matter of preference in style/tone/personality between her & B.
That was Terry who gave the pitch. Notice she so slightly move the mic 🎤 to her mouth to give the note 🎵, then away before Max started. Plus, you can tell by the vibrato it was Terry.
lol! never gets old! audience was mad, like they fucked up the song. when you sing it as a group, very harmonized and all got that voice. that's what it comes down to
Easily one of the top 10 best National Anthems of all time, just the overall vocal arrangement and uniqueness that is just stunning. Of course there will be those idiots who would say..sing it the way it's supposed to be sung, but not every National Anthem needs to sound the same...this is of a different variety...something En Vogue could always bring.
That harmony and arrangement is out of this world! I love En Vogue sooooooo much. Even Derek was like "Damn...these girls doin this!" Thanks so much for posting!
Jimmy Carter liked it. Derek Jeter was confused as hell. But was it the most interesting version of The National Anthem ever sung? Oh yes. Oh God yes! XD
I love them. They are the ultimate girl group. They can all sing, they can share a song, and they knew how to be sexy without selling their bodies. I love this rendition. I love their harmony. I LOVE EN VOGUE!
I love how these ladies put a different spin on this song it has wonderful Harmony it gives you that way back in the day feel but with much soul job well done
Man I love it when they be right in they key especially at the end giving us the HOLD ON intro style vocal. Amazing vocalist these beautiful women are.
I always thought it was Terry singing the top note on "Free" cuz she's good for those high head notes like a la Whitney, but I JUST realized 😳 it that she is singing the note below Cindy (I think) & definitely the note 🎶 above Max (which is her typical placement in the harmonies anyway) and that it is actually DAWN who is signing the highest 🎶 on "free." As many times as I have listened to this song, this was the first time I was able to tell the difference by hearing Terry's signature vibrato, while Dawn's notes are more "straight" & less tremulous. But aside from the vibrato & difference in vocal "weight," Dawn & Terry both sound like they grew up singing together as literal sisters because of their similarity in tone in their upper registers 🎼. I mean, Cindy & Max have pronounced vibrato too, but Terry has a distinctive operatic quality to hers --- AGAIN --- a la Whitney. ESPECIALLY her head notes. Heck. Terry almost sounds VERY similar to Whitney when Whitney was in her prime in the 80s. But she also sounds like she has some Tina Marie mixed in their too. Actually, she sang Tina Marie's Square Biz in some live performance, though I can't remember for what show now. And who is that player at 1:11?? He is a dreamboat!!
Good ear! I'm gonna guess Terry didn't think she could hit it because she usually does do the higher "free" there. Also, she didn't do the top that she usually does on "gallantly" earlier in the song either.
@@JamaalABivens Oh. I'm SURE she could. Remember ☝🏾, Terry is famous for her high head/ALMOST whistle-SOUNDING 🎶 in "Don't Go" & "Just Can't Stay Away." Even though Terry has meticulous control over her voice, I still think she would've drowned Dawn out if she had been the 1 to hit it since her voice has more "weight" than the other Dawn OR the other women 4 that matter & maybe that's why 🤷🏾♂️. But then again, she hit the top note 🎶 when they sang it @ (I think) Bill Clinton's inaugural celebration concert, so . . . who knows?? Maybe they did it to switch things up JUST because 🤷🏾♂️.
JUST SPEECHLESS after watchin this . i mean the harmony is so good and i can feel that the crowd was like this sounds different but it sounds great. i can't see anybody as a group male or female who can touch this performance. it almost drove me to tears at how great this performance was.
Firstly,... ATL-Fulton County Stadium? Boy that brings back memories. I can't remember when this was but clearly it was before 1996, when they tore it down. Secondly, THIS is how a girl group should sound. They should be unified. En Vogue were pros at harmonies. They could sing a cappella all day and I'd never get tired of it.
THEIR HARMONIES CANNOT BE DUPLICATED! I CAN'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE WERE BOOING, OMG, PEOPLE DON'T VALUE TRUE TALENT ANYMORE. I MEAN WITH ALL THESE STUDIO SINGERS OUT THERE, ITS REFRESHING WHEN PEOPLE CAN REALLY SING, AND DO IT WELL! AND ITS AN ADDED BONUS WHEN THEY CAN TAKE A SONG AND MAKE IT THEIR OWN AND STILL MAKE IT FLY!
Me too! I hope they soon add more tour dates-- especially on the east coast. I missed 3 opportunities to see them in concert this summer but didn't go because I had no one to go with. I'm going next time they are near, even if I have to go alone.
Love how they switched it up from the boring version every other past artist has sung. This was a little more jazzier, but still classy and tatseful! Loved it!
President Carter thoroughly enjoyed that. *And me too!!* This country is a mix-up of all kinds of people, flavors, cultures, nationalities, and people. Although the National Anthem comes in all flavors also, the message is always the same.
The harmony of it all. No other R & B group gave or gives that level. Lol now gospel is another field ie Clark sisters, Pace sisters, Kirk Franklin background singers.
+DeVron83 En Vogue sang theirs live with their microphones plugged in unlike Whitney Houston's Super Bowl rendition, but I understand why Houston's version played a prerecorded edition; the pressure to execute the performance precisely during the Gulf War. I prefer En Vogue's doo-wop cover of "The Star Spangled Banner," but like Whitney's rendition for the Super Bowl NOT when she sang live for the 1999 WNBA All-Star Game.
BrownBrother27 Yes, I've heard it was prerecorded and lip synced, however, she did sing it live for her welcome home performance for the Gulf War troops in Norfolk, Va. Check that one out if you haven't. It sounded just as good if not better than the prerecorded one. We all know during that time she could sing live. So whether prerecorded or not. It will remain in Super Bowl history as one of the greatest.
I don't care where my seat was or how much my ticket cost, I would choose watching this performance live over watching the game. I love basebell. I love En Vogue! I just hope nobody is going to tell me that Maddox pitched a perfect game that night.
i love en vogue, they all had talent all shows it off with equally & and amazingly. i love Destiny child but all was done was keep eyes on one person & at the end all they did was separate and make one girl the known name
K Moore No. They were saying that not too long after this Dawn left the group, which was true, because they're wearing their hair the way it was styled going into their EV3 album. If you look at their "Whatever" video, Terry's hair is exactly the way it is here. And that album--- live performances anyway---- was the first time Max rocked her hair this short. And consequently, "Whatever" was their 1st video without Dawn, though Dawn's vocals are heard on that song & other tracks on thar album. They left them on, I assume because the album had already went to press when Dawn decides to leave, & because Terry & Dawn had similar voices, so Terry just coveres Dawn's parts in the live performances.
This is why En Vogue stood out from all the other Girl Groups, These girls specialized in true Harmony and none of their vocals overshadowed the other, unlike destinys children where you could hear beYAWNcy yelling over the other girls, her voice is so annoying.
Dam Maxine look so beautiful...All of them are some elegant, classy, mature ladies who don't have to take much off to be a step above the rest. I LOVE ME SOME ENVOGUE!
amazing harmony, these girls were on point! En Vogue was the shhhhh!!!!!
yes they was

That was such a refreshing take on the national anthem. Felt like cool water running down my back.
Very courageous performance. They are truly talented.
En Vogue is easily the GREATEST female vocal group EVER!!!! No one else even comes close.
TLC is up there.
OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I read somewhere earlier that Destiny's Child was the best harmonized female group. Puh'leeeeeze. Hands down! En Vogue shut it down here!!!! All 4 of them were competition to each other and it's rare that you find a group anywhere that can harmonize on cue.

Notice Dawn giving the key at the beginning to Max. The girls used to say she had the perfect pitch.
Yea i remember that
That was Terry who gave the pitch. Notice she so slightly move the mic 🎤 to her mouth to give the note 🎵, then away before Max started. Plus, you can tell by the vibrato it was Terry.
It's just Max doing a warm up note
Dawn has perfect pitch and was the note giver
@@dominiquedevereux7205 no, it was Max. Note how Dawn nodded to her right after she did it.
Dawn's part always gives me chills...Terry too...
Go on Terry!!!!
lol! never gets old! audience was mad, like they fucked up the song. when you sing it as a group, very harmonized and all got that voice. that's what it comes down to
DAWN ROBINSON MARRY👰 ME!! 💎
I like Terry and Dawn holding on to each other like sisters bffs like we got this sis
One of the best ever done.
Top 3 All time anthem performances:
1. Whitney
2. Marvin Gaye
3. EnVogue
EN VOGUE DID THAT! AMEN
this is my favorite celebrity rendition of the national anthem!!
loves me some funky divas!

Unbelievable! The best female group of all time. I absolutely love them. Work it out Maxine, she eats the backgroung up, love her!!
Wow! They did it to me again! Good music should always make one feel something, even if it can't put in words. These 4 individuals never fail.
En Vogue did that!!!!! SN: Derek Jeter was HOTT and still is, but damn he was so cute here, LOL
I was wondering who that cute dude was!!!
That harmony and arrangement is out of this world! I love En Vogue sooooooo much. Even Derek was like "Damn...these girls doin this!"
Thanks so much for posting!
Harmony arranged by Mervyn Warren former member of Take 6
Thank you. Didnt know this.
Jimmy Carter liked it. Derek Jeter was confused as hell. But was it the most interesting version of The National Anthem ever sung? Oh yes. Oh God yes! XD
Jeter probably was trying to figure out which 1 he wanted to take home
Vocals baby! This isn't singing..that's sanging!

I love how these ladies put a different spin on this song it has wonderful Harmony it gives you that way back in the day feel but with much soul job well done
Whitney Houston and En Vogue killed this...you have to bring this kind of energy, just watch people’s reaction...goosebumps
Man I love it when they be right in they key especially at the end giving us the HOLD ON intro style vocal. Amazing vocalist these beautiful women are.
that was so beautiful
lawd have mercy! these women brought tears 2 my eyes 4 real! where r all of the real singers these days, gracious!
En Vogue did THAT!
th-cam.com/video/Geg4yDxZZDs/w-d-xo.html
Yes they did. And no one can harmonize like them. Only harmony comes close was the gospel group Point of Grace.
That was pretty! Hey so is Jeter here....
THank U for reposting this!! It was up once and I had it saved, but of course, like everything I cherish on here, it was deleted for no reason.

That's my R&B singers En Vogue.
That’s Oakland right there…. Such a soulful city with amazing voices
En Vogue was on fire in the 90s
Reminds me of the Andrew sisters
They do a version of the chorus of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy on the Born to Sing album.
Marvin Gaye best male singer of the National Anthem. My girls En Vogue the best female version of the National Anthem.
MIMI88998899 I think Whitney Houston has the best female version. But I'd like to suggest EnVogue has the best female group's version.
