I think this is applicable to anyone from any country not just the U.S. Embezzlement is illegal in most country and if you're guilty, you deserve to spend time in prison. It's foolish to think that you can go into any foreign country and commit crimes without repercussion. If anything, you should be on your best behavior if you are a foreigner.

Nobody said US passport will protect you from legal trouble in VN or in any country; that would be an idiotic idea. You just made it up, Ken. The drawback with having VN passport in addition to US passport is that VN passport/citizen will take precedent; i.e. some legal obligations afforded to US citizen will not be extended to dual citizenship. For example, they confiscate your properties and you can only sue them in VN, not in US since you are VN citizen first and foremost.

But Ken had to come with something to make it sounds interesting. The moral of the story is, once you commit a crime, run with the loot to another country ASAP. That lady isnt too dumb, she distributed the $12mil usd to her families. how many of us ever will have $1mil usd? Look at her happy face.

Those of us who were "boat people" who escaped Vietnam after the war would not think about going back to Vietnam to defraud the local people, only the recent Vietnamese who managed to get a US passport would think of going back to Vietnam to do something like this because they have connections.

In the video Ken made after this, I explained in the comments the huge issue in Vietnam in with real estate. They don't have title companies - no one to check if everything is legit in the closing of properties. No way to check real sold prices. How this woman was able to actually get the 12 million in her account AS A FUCKING REAL ESTATE AGENT is why buying land is gambling in Vietnam. They don't know proper due process to make these things safe. She likely bribed government officials. In America, they check titles and history relating to it. We at least make sure to check basic facts before transferring funds. In Vietnam, everyone is more gullible. So you can just forge documents and trust the realtor? Where the hell was the company/lawyer to verify everything? This Vietnamese/American woman knew how ridiculous the Vietnamese real estate system is and took full advantage of it. She's serving a life term, but all the buyers are still out of money. Boom, disappeared - sent her relatives I'm sure.

ALL LAND CROSSING POINTS IN/OUT OF VIETNAM NOW HAVE SNIFFER DOGS. I frequently cross land borders. Wjen l cross l drive straight to dog kennel, get off my motorcycle / out of my car and go close to the dog so they can smell me.
Sniffer dogs jump into trucks and buses to sniff AND ON TO ROOF TOP LUGGAGE Racks looking for drugs.

You can always measure a country's intelligence by their marijuana laws.. If you can get in trouble for marijuana... But you cannot get in trouble for alcohol you know you are in the wrong country.. Just a matter of intelligence.
