I’m actually intrigued about the information of the medial meniscus having some connection to the MCL. I never knew that was true. This would make sense on why the medial meniscus is often torn when the MCL is sprained or torn. In the past, I shadowed an OS and was introduced to a study on why the lateral meniscus is more often torn when an ACL and the MCL are damaged (Shelbourne, 1991). Very interesting. I’m glad you pointed that out!

The good doctor is very upbeat about Burrow's recovery. Yes, medical science is very good at putting Burrow's knee back together to the point that he might be able to play at the same level in a year or so. He's a young guy now but what is that knee going to be like for him when he's 50? I'm not buying it if anyone says he'll have no lifelong impairment or early degradation of functionality in that knee in his later years.

When I first heard about the other structural damage, it reminded me of when my left knee got injured playing football in high school. I was playing left defensive end for this one particular play, and the (my) right offensive guard and tackle were pulling to open up the B gap running lane. The way the play was supposed to work was the tackle lined up in front of me was supposed to cut inside and take on the linebacker. The pulling guard would try to box me outside, and the pulling tackle would cut inside and take the second linebacker. Instead, the tackle in front of me blocked me instead and in the ensuing chaos, the pulling guard dove in a sort of chop block move and hit me with his helmet in my knee, and the pulling tackle went high. Long story short, after two X-rays and a MRI, it was determined that a part of (I can’t remember whether it was the femur or the tibia) the bone had broken off and taken a piece of the cartilage with it. A knee endoscopy was performed and after they cut the damaged tissue and bone out, they drilled into the bone to encourage new cartilage growth. So it makes me wonder if anything like that may have happened...

I bent down to pick up my bike helmet off the ground in middle school and I remember a similar thing happening to my leg. I remember falling straight down like I had been pushed from behind but my foot was still planted. I lied back and was afraid I’d broken something. After psyching myself up so I wouldn’t freak out if things were really bad I lifted my leg and it was straight and seemed to work fine with some moderate pain if I flexed it. My friend came by to help me up and I walked my bike home. No bruising or swelling that I remember. I still don’t know if I just didn’t understand how I fell or my knee took a lot of damage and I didn’t know it and it just healed on it’s own because I was young and healthy

I was wondering if you could break down the injury I suffered in college. ACL, MCL, PCL Posterior medial capsule. This was years ago and I dont have film of it but would love to have a better understanding of what happened.

About 3 months ago I tore my acl, mcl, medial and lateral meniscus, all, and broke my tibia

Jeez it's a miracle he didn't dislocate his knee. Hope he makes a full recovery and can get back to football.

Could ypu elaborate on his possible recovery outlook? I imagine his knee will never be the same, but is it possible for him to get close to 100%? And also, how much more likely is it to be injured again in the future? Thanks for your time.

I’m a diehard 25 year old bengals fan which means I have never watched them win a playoff game in my lifetime. Joey B gave me hope and now I’m hopeless with this franchise. We can’t even protect our #1 pick correctly. I’m sick!

Initially tore my ACL in a football practice in HS. I had never experience anything like it, so I played the rest of the season, and it got to the point where I had to flex my thigh in order for my leg to pop back into place after plays. I had just gotten used to it I guess. Needless to say, I still feel it after 7 years 😂

I’m gonna be honest, I do not believe you.

This sounds like cap, unless your position was field goal holder

Beleive it or not you can still walk and typically even run on a torn ACL. Him saying his knee was popping in and out on the regular sounds like BS tho

@@nashmollenkopf389 Walking and normal day to day activities with a torn ACL is actually quite common. I had a torn ACL for nearly 10 years before I had it repaired. The problem is with any sort of activity that require quick stops and starts and pivoting. For me running wasn't the problem. Stopping was. Or quick pivots.
