Simon, the man, who was the boy, who is supported by the team, Jennie Pippa Evelyn, all the National Team athletes coaches trainers partners sponsors, all prepping together to meeting the Olympic challenge head on. That is what you should see when watching this video. A very classy "nod" to Tim Don followed up with a clear statement that it isn't over until it is over in London 2012. This video will be on my playlist for a long, long time. Thanks Simon and Specialized.
For anyone into the music and wondering what it is, the band is called The Wilderling, an indie group from Simon's hometown of Kingston, Ontario (now living in Montreal), who were generous enough to let us use their tracks for the edit. Thanks, guys.
For everyone who wants to know what the song is, its called Map & Lantern by Wilderling. I downloaded them on bandcamp.com because I couldn't find it itunes or amazon.
Even though he's not one of the best guys in the ITU he's my role model He has a beautiful place to train, two beautiful kids, and he has a sense of humor I'd take that over a string of world championships any day
lol I guess I have to wake up earlier and check wether there is a top secret pre-sunrise cycling group riding the abandoned roads where I live, too.. :X so cool
@MercedeSChink Yeah this guy is a beast... I train for track only and I don't run sub 35min (well cross country races I'm talking about, on a flat track I'm not sure) for a 10k nor do I run as much volume as he does in training. What are you training for ?
@israelpinedo he eats a little on the bike to keep energy level up for the run. morning runs are always good however, because you don't normally need to worry about fueling too much, your stomach has faster for 8 hours and running on that saved up energy over night is a great way to stay lean, keep the fat off, and be fast
you do realise he never did a 35km run right? hes taking the mick of the other triathletes as they throw together huge training days that they wont normally do
He is a sponsored athlete so he gets money from different companies. He also gets paid for races where he places. He got 200,000 for winning the Hy-Vee triathlon championship in 2009. Not to shabby...
@15RedXIII yea, just amazing! I actually picked up him saying 3 small 1 big, which should be at least 3500, wow... this vid is motivation for my training
His smile isn't fake... dude is pure hearted and looks genuinely happy... may the Lord continue to shine and bless that dude and his family
Great to see how he make a commitment to make time for the family!
20 years ago now training alongside this legend were some of the best 'Days in the life' I think we had in creating many champions.
A love the way he balances family life with his training. Being a Father is the most important thing. Great job Simon!! :)

he's using a Venge in the video, you can see the VENGE on the seat tube :)
@MercedeSChink I think he said 7.5 K ... considering the smallest loop they do in open water is 800m, it makes sense.
He WAS the best. :D
So the Tripleshot ride begins at 6am and he begins running at 7am. How many miles is the Tripleshot ride then?
I mean they're awesome, sick, totally kickass...

"what are ya feeding this one, Mama Whitfield?"
@fenderkyle
even if he's training for full ironman, 7.5km or 7500m doesn't really sound right still...Mr. Whitfield! we need your response!
@GlennGutube Don't know about the run & swim, but the average speed on the bike was 39.5 km/h.
