Great video B'y! Another thing that people should keep in mind with a long lens like this is that the particles in the air get "compressed" as much as anything else in the photo too so if the air isn't super clear, you might notice a bit of "haze" or softness when shooting things super far away.

former professional sports photographer that used a 600mm often...thought about getting rid of it, but now I see a challenge as well. Challenges are a good thing. Nice work.
I live on the west coast of Ireland and seeing that landscape from Newfoundland its almost like you could join them together with out much difference. Nice seeng someone shoot landscape similar to mines for a change, Awesome shots and enjoyed this one.

I'm gravitating more and more towards my 70-300G Lens on my A6400.
Usually I shoot everything with my 35mm F1.8 but so often I find myself reaching for the telephoto lens. On the crop sensor it means it's basically a 100-460.
As soon as you break around 250mm on FullFrame it gets "abstract" and you need to focus on details. Textures, Colors, Clouds / Waves and really use the "compression" the lens gives.

Oh wow those panos are great. I normally shoot 70 - 200 for tight landscape stuff never 600mm. I love how you got the motion in the waves in those panos ... how the heck did you stitch them?!?! I never use my 600mm outside of my back yard because it is so damn heavy but I might lug it with me for so challenging autumn photos!! I love the Focal Length Challenge series it makes me think about different focal lengths for different things!
I have that lens and you did an outstanding job of inspiring me. Great shots Becki. I wouldn’t normally take that lens to a location like that because it’s not a landscape type of lens. So your challenge was self inflicted because it was a great lens in the wrong place, but what you were able to produce was outstanding. That truly illustrated your amazing photographic abilities. And the fox, deer and the cardinal shots were what that lens is for and those shots were beautiful. Well done my Canadian friend. I wish you both were back home here in Canada. ❤️🇨🇦 Love you guys

I’d love to see an episode of this series on 105 or 135mm, they are a little more uncommon than something like a 50 or 85mm for portraiture and I’m curious to see what comparisons there may be.
Lovely fox and cardinal images! I think for landscape telephoto shots, the lens really leans itself towards the abstract stuff (though not always), where subject isolation/layers/compression really shines. The location, and moody weather, reminds me of Rachael Talibart's work with waves! Lovely spot.
I'm interested to know (and maybe you've covered it in another video) how are you blending the multi-photo shot when you have so much movement from the waves?
Some really good shots loved it, I rented a 600mm once & tried to get the city from about 1/2 hr north of the city, the client really wanted to try it & it did not come out all that good but it is always great to try new things

Nice video challenging yourself outside of comfort zone. One of the advantages of "that kind" of weather at the cape is it keeps the visitor numbers low enough that they aren't popping up in your photos. ☺.

I shot mainly motorsports and wildlife. My 200-600 is probably my most used lens. As you don't see in telephoto I actually struggle with anything under 70mm.
You said you were shooting crop for video, was it the a6500? Video still looks so good. I need to use mine more for BTS and VLog stuff.....
I use my sigma 150-600 C for photographing the moon, widlife, sports, and landscape.
Best on a tripod in live view and just look for composition

600mm panorama with no panoramic head came out clean! I cant imagine myself keeping that horizon level while handling that beast of a lens.
It was tough but the tripod definitely helped!
Panoheads are not required for lenses over 80mm due to the compression of telephoto lenses. Parallax nodal points are only required for wide angle lenses.
Next time you’re within 20km of me (and not in a Covid world) I would die to meet you! We’re lucky to be a province that you could probably look out your bedroom window and take a decent picture. Great vid, I’m heading to CS this weekend!
I like this series and this one was the best as you walk through your artistic challenge with the long lens. I did have to chuckle because of two things. 1) My bias is toward telephoto lenses and have to make myself 'see' in wide. (I often don't use my 16-35, but love the images every time I do) 2) I rented an 800mm for the weekend and am trying to figure out how to work that beast. Challenge to you? 😃

Recently was in Alaska and brought a 2x for my 300 2.8. Shot way more on it than I thought I would!
It’s super fun to have the ability to shoot that long!
A pair of blinkers would give you the perspective of the longer lens - just lengthen the side panels to get the preview of what you'll see through the lens. Preview + practice = perfection.
I have Sony rx10 iv trick using 600m is you need move back to get that shot but love it
like how you are very real and show your frustration with experience with a new lens, the only way to learn is to try and fail right?

600mm must be a tricky one but it also has some unbelievable traits such as the ability to catch that epic photo of a fox you did! Wow! There seems to be two types of photographers: those seeing world wide and those seeing world telephoto. Both struggle with the other end of the spectrum ;)

OMG! Super fun! Though I feel you about feeling like you are starting from scratch. I feel that way every time I try to shoot landscapes in natural light. (I shoot mostly portraits and events in crappy fluorescent lighting.) As soon as I get outside, I feel like a bumbling idiot. LOL!
What a challenge! Your animal shots here are my favorite. It seems like Sony cameras produce more noise - I've had a tough time brining up those shadows on Sony shots. Have you noticed that at all?
Great video as always, from my experience longer focal lengths are great for landscape especially if you are in somewhere like mountain ranges especially if you are further away.

Believe it or not, I use the Sony 200-600 lens on my Sony VG-20 video camera! It's great for wildlife, jets, etc. Coupled with the Sony 18-200 lens, I have everything I need with just two lenses. The fox pic is amazing. It would have been cool to see what you could have got shooting him with video. Cheers!

Becki! I can't wrap my head around how the sea came out the way it did in your pano. Logically the sea is moving as you take your shots so how does it look like it was frozen in time? Help?

In the hope that I'm not going to get shot down and be seen as a keyboard warrior, I'm will preface my comment by saying I love your channel and watch the videos regularly.
For the 600mm I would highly recommend you purchasing a much sturdier tripod and head, as seeing on this video, the PD tripod was wobbling badly under the weight of the setup.

Yeah I would not even know where to start with the 600mm. ALSO YEAH NEWFIE!!! We tell people the same thing about the rocks in Nova Scotia near Peggys Cove (DANGER, SLIPPERY, GIANT WAVES)... but folks never listen.
If you do decide to shoot portraits with a 600mm you’ll also need some good Walkie-talkies!

not best day for tele-lens :):)there is fog , heat distorzion ,sea spray and other atmospheric CHALLENGES ... but i love my prime 500 , for landscaping :)
So I'm having ear problem this week and watching this aggitated it near the end of ther video I thought I had tinnitus I was like why is it ringing so bad but as the video finished I discovered it was from the video XD probably the lighting fans or something? LOL
Should bring this back with 35mm and 85mm
Next time go for the widest fish eye you can get for the Sony one extreme to the other 🐠

You can use any Lens for Landscape Photography, but you have to know your focal length as good as you own eyes. So sometimes you have to use one Lens a lot, often the Lens you use the least to get to know it !
You want to try shooting 400mm hand held on a Micro Four Thirds camera, with your pet dog trying to pull you along the beach to chase the birds you are filming.
I would be absolutely honoured if you took a look at my Turnstone episode. Its only a couple of minutes long. Half of it was shot at 400mm (800mm Full Frame equivalent).

@@jerrengrimes3708 I will be using a combination of things usually when you take shots like that you take a lot of them then piece them together into a cohesive shot. I'm fairly new at it and I only have a 300 mm lens right now but I've taken some incredible pictures of the moon so far
