    Tim in leather gear bares a striking resemblance to Rob Halford of Judas Priest.

      Oh my gosh, that's hilarious! Yes, I can definitely see it now you've pointed it out! :D

      He really does! When Judas Priest were on Top Of The Pops with 'Living After Midnight', my sister said Halford resembled Tim.

    What I remember about the Goodies was their spoof advert break in the middle of each episode where Tim plays a child in the advert and fluffs up his lines only for him to be bowled over and a voice bellowing "Get it right!"
    They had an episode where they get involved in outdoor pursuits and stayed in a caravan. They battled through the jungle and they were actually in long grass by the side of a busy A road. At the time there were a series of how to books called Let's ____. There was a collection of those books in the caravan and then Graeme Garden picks up a book with the title Let's Go Home.

    3:27 Yeah thats weird about Kimmy knowing what we know now. I know we have to look at this through the lense of the time but that one made my skin crawl.

    Very good look at this "different" episode. I quite agree with your thoughts and questions on this one. There were some moments that were quite funny and clever. But they're all mixed into a rather strange soup of ideas that make this a lesser and slightly unsettling kind of episode. But yeah, great review.

      Thank you, Radz! Whether they always succeed or not, I do admire the fact that they were always trying different things. Each episode is different. They weren't lazy and just relying on a formula and catchphrases. Each episode has imagination in it. :)

    John Peel and Clive Selwood's Dandelion label released Bill's 'On Ilkla Moor Baht'At' - him doing the traditional Yorkshire song in the style of Joe Cocker's 'A Little Help From My Friends'.

      Thanks for that great comment, Barbara! I think I have heard a snippet of that, but not the whole thing. I know John Peel was an admirer of Bill's music - didn't he have one of Bill's records in his box of top favourites, and it was found after JP passed away?

    The love you (and as do I) have for the show is very much in evidence here, however you aren’t seeing it with rose-tinted specs, and are not making any excuses for some very dated stereotypical humour. A very balanced and terrifically perceptive review of a great but somewhat flawed episode, many many thanks!

      Thank you, Matthew. I can only give my honest reaction as to how I view the episodes now. I think it's inevitable there will be things that don't age well over 50 years - but I still love the show, and the chaps. I'm sure in 50 years there'll be things we would all cringe at in our own comments and attitudes from today. No-one is immune to the march of time, and the way society evolves and progresses.
      Great to see Bill in all his rockstar glory here!

    • @MatthewBrannigan
      @MatthewBrannigan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely - we somewhat arrogantly think we have now reached the ideological pinnacle, but yes, I'm quite sure there are some issues now that we think are settled but us and our kids will think quite differently about them in the future!

    I got a notification of a comment by Scottzilla 1970 on this video, but the comment isn't showing up here for me to reply to it. I have no idea why - it seems like youtube just removes comments sometimes even when they're perfectly normal comments...

    I remember the audioons to be in the audience where girls had to be over 16 and under 17. Bill Oddie later called out the DJs for taking advantage of the naive groupie scene fuelled by teen magazines.

    I rather enjoyed this episode because of the fact that it takes digs at the fickleness of fame, the music industry and entertainment as a whole being about image rather than actual quality and talent. And even the androgynous glam rock stuff I think was probably a bit of a dig at David Bowie and the Ziggy Stardust persona. And the fact that the music promoter was an Aussie was pretty cool. How did you feel about her Tengy?

    • @TengyTalksTVMovies
      @TengyTalksTVMovies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the Australian character was really funny and very well performed. It's an interesting take on how popstars were/are manufactured, which is still current today.

      Tengy Talks TV & Movies that's kind of satire I love, something that remains timeless and relevant no matter the decade. I also rather loved the bit at the beginning when Tim tries to read the title of the latest song by the group 'Blood, Guts and Giblets' and brings out a censorship machine to fill in the naughty words with buzzes.

    Does anyone know if the agents are parodies of anyone in particular?
    This is one of the few episodes that is not on BritBox in the UK. The Jewish agents and the Saville reference might be why
