He's right. Some people even build their own from scratch, (Rare but it happens.) Full custom built interiors including dash. Full on carbon fibre refit where you take the panels off and replace them with carbon fibre ones or even kevlar. From kit car to Partial or total redesign where you make your own body using clay to make a finished design and form body panels using fibreglass or carbon fibre.
Edit: This applies to Canada, not sure about the US. Many people don't like Honda's but that's because there's so many of them.

What’s annoying is ppl hating on Honda’s because they’re popular w/ ricers. In Japan, esp Osaka, Civics are respected for their racing heritage and have a whole culture behind them. Just because they have small engines and are economy cars doesn’t make them shit box ricers. People here need to learn how to accept and respect each other’s cars.

To be fair though, if some one has some "ugly vinyl wrap" on their car, that doesn't ruin the car. However when you stance a car, not only does it ride badly, and handle poorly. But it completely scrapes the underside, and can actually damage your car... So take it for what it's worth.

Man when I first watched Tokyo Drift I was like "no way in hell are the car meets like that" Today I learned they are exactly what was shown in the movie unlike the North American car meets where its just people with modded Civics maybe a handful of really well build cars and the most exciting part is when that one guy in a Civic or Mustang does a burnout.

YamahaYZFR6RJ05 Exactly that you cannot import a car unless it is at least 15 years old and in the states the car has to be at least 25 years old. There are exceptions but that's basically the rule.
