I can't believe how much weird shit happens with this world, its pretty common for updates to do weird shit to chunk generation but not THIS, its all just bizarre
Hey guys, the main reason the map keeps breaking again and again is because of how Minecraft "population" works, basically, some versions are designed to recreate chunks and replace old data. This process follows three steps: 1) The game checks for any data that does not match with the "source", aka the seed and current version world generation 2) All blocks and entities are removed from the chunk that's being populated. 3) Once the 2nd step is completed, the game recreates the terrain based (again) on the seed, biome, version and some other variables. In older versions of the game, this step could find data from old maps and replace the terrain with said information, but keeping some values from your savefile. Thats why the Strange house on Zappa's map (which started in beta version) is located in a snowy biome while in Dead's map it was just a mountain, as snowy biomes were not present in Dead's seed originally. You can check this out by visiting an unaltered version of the seed that has not been corrupted. Edit: Corrected some stuff, I was on my phone and got a bunch of things poorly worded
There's also the fact that before release 1.2, every time you loaded a world, the biome placement would all be recalculated from the seed instead of being saved with the level data. Whenever an update changed the terrain generation, it would shuffle the biomes around, even in existing chunks. A swamp generated in 1.0 might freeze over (lilypads and all) in 1.1, and then in 1.2 you'd dig up the snow and find jungle-green grass underneath.
@@CubicApocalypse128 You always learn something new about Mojang's spaghetti code, lol. Also fun fact about minecraft's weird update gimmicks: In old minecraft versions, wooden slabs were actually considered as stone slabs by the game code. This meant that those slabs had their preferred tool set to pickaxe instead of axes, and they couldn't catch fire. In some old maps, you can still find these slabs placed around the world as some times, the map won't correctly update some blocks' NBT tags
Ah! So i wasnt that much wrong, i had this theory too, bc i KNEW it was an old world, the recent versions couldnt load it well, specially bc they skipped a lot of versions to the most recent so old generation data w/ new one eventually would start to overwrite itself
@@maxisz6674 yeah and some technical Minecraft players already know how to deliberately abuse this in order to repopulate chunks in old maps with new biomes but the process is quite complicated and it involves data overload and some other stuff
Dead almost make me teary when he tells about his friend who is sick and he will play and stream Minecraft for him/her. As a person with disability myself, who loves games but can't really play due to the illness's complication, watching someone playing the game is the only way I can enjoy the game. Until now, if I want to relax and enjoy my free time, I watch a random dude play Minecraft. I wish your friend is feeling great now Dead. I'm sure you are a hero to your friend.
So what I’m hearing is that this world began with a friend streaming Minecraft to another, and it ended via one friend streaming Minecraft to another Minecraft reall does bring people together in that weird way
I am SO happy dead talked about the browser version of Minecraft because I used to play that so much (it was not good) and like nobody believes me that it was just a free version on the website because they're all young.
I remember playing a browser version when I first heard about it, but I couldn't find anything about it when I looked for it again more recently and thought it was probably a Minecraft clone. Finally, some vindication.
Lucky, lol, I had to wait 2 weeks for this to drop since I watched it barely after it released, I thought: "hey, this channel is new, but they probably got like, a couple of videos right?" But NAH it was just one that had just dropped, I knew the next one was gonna be long so I knew I had to wait for it
I can't believe this dropped just now lol, I was here like barely 2 minutes after it released, and I had barely moved on from it, I was deadass DESPERATED with this video, so watching this feels watching It all over again, It really was a good day when I watched the first video, I was feeling like shit but that video really put me back into a good mood, same thing happened today, kinda poetic isn't it?
yay all we have to do now is find the cracked version of minecraft from 14 years ago. considering how recently the 2010 herobrine stream was brought back from the dead, i wouldn't be surprised if we end up finding the creator and the version at some point in the future

Almost convinced that you're secretly a huge youtuber with a lot of experience in making videos or something, or at least have edited videos in the past. I usually leave videos in the background while I do stuff but I can really appreciate when someone adds sustenance to the visuals like the dramatic shots of you guys walking around in the moment (which I assume is a mod but you still had to find the bit and sync it to the audio). You could have just done a normal first person shot throughout the entire video but you didn't, and that's pretty cool! My last comment on the first video stands that I just love your dynamic with your pal Skignorf throughout the video and the interview was very fun to watch. There's definitely some natural first-vc awkwardness but it felt like you befriended Dead throughout the whole 'tour' even though you were throwing little jabs at him in the first video. This comment is already long but thank you for the subtitles! Those can be tedious but I have auditory processing problems so it's nice to be able to go rewind and read the words I couldn't pick up- either because I just couldn't process it or was distracted.
shoutout to dead for being so polite and patient being asked an interview’s worth of variations on the question “why are you so bad at minecraft?” lmaoooo but fr this shit is so cozy it feels like im just hanging out with my boys on call one night
Oh my god I remember Alpha. The headache that was getting out of a boat and watching it zoom away in the other direction, never to be seen again. Or how expensive they were early game and watching them break apart one square away from shore because they "hit" a block.
Dead looks like such a chill guy, to spend time with you, talking about a 14 year old minecraft world, answer all your questions, stupid or not, just chill with you. And the fact that he remembered it all is WILD. OH AND I FUMKING KNEW YOU ARE POLISH, WTH MAN, I was so confused and excited to see that one random screenshot when you messaged zappa last episode and saw polish.
It's funny that the world is cursed, keeps going apeshit and haunt you guys, until Dead shows up. Then the world feels at ease with its original master/companion, and all is fine and chill. Also Actor: Cow in memoriam, is a nice touch. Another nice touch is how the end music just cuts.

Oh my. I just did my own brief look into it and you're right. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on this one. I've played minecraft for almost 12 years (casually) and so anything like this *reeeeally* fascinates me.
It's kinda crazy that this story actually has an explanation now. I remember first seeing the video, thought it would just beanother mysterious clip never to be answered. The lengths you went to get answers were crazy. Good job
It’s unfortunate, if you ask me. I prefer longer, hours long videos personally. Short form content is a bit of a plague tbh, it’s sanitization of creative liberty
Kinda of crazy how much OG players just quit once beta ended or thought game was bad after full update also interesting that he really OG he is and how he was playing since basically day one
The best Minecraft experience I had was Beta 1.9. I had, I think it was ‘three mikes mod’ that had modern vehicles in it like tunneling machines and building materials. I built a whole city out of it. The mod author never updated his mods.
Modern Minecraft really feels like a completely different game despite some of the superficial similarities. Alpha/Beta was definitely a simpler time, and I think it was a time when Minecraft really stood out as something unique; the survival mechanics were pretty light which kept a lot of focus on building things and just kind of exploring the map. I think in Beta 1.8 the game started leaning a lot more into the survival and adventuring mechanics, and in a way, it's distracting, I think. It's harder to just kind of chill and explore the world and build a cozy base because there's so much *stuff* the game wants you to do, but it's resulted in the game having a lot of shallow mechanics, while there's a lot of other games that just focus on doing a few things really well, and it's easy for me, when interacting with these shallow mechanics, to just kinda put Minecraft down to go play one of those other games instead. I think what I really want to see from Minecraft going forward is for them to focus on fleshing out the building system more. It's a really nice framework, and I think that framework is really a major aspect of what set Minecraft apart from other games back in Alpha/Beta, but other than adding new block types, not much has changed about it since then, which means the limitations are largely unchanged. When you build at realistic scales relative to the height of the player, Minecraft really doesn't give you much room for detailing. I think there's a lot of room to expand interior decoration -- imagine if we didn't need mods to have some cozy furniture! -- and imagine if you could "paint" the texture of one block onto a face of another block so your walls don't need to be really thick if you want the exterior and the interior to be a different material.
I would save the world in it's original version from deadskin, the zappa's both converted and unconverted versions, the version of the world used in the video, and the version after destroying it, all in one pendrive, and put it in a safe place as a trophy.
The average pen drive dies after a couple of years lol. Upload all onto the web archive and also save them privately in multiple hard drives and magnetic tape backup cartridges.

So, bit of an explanation on the save on the server corrupting after sitting idly on the server for a few days untouched: Based on the icon shown in your server browser at 12:36, it looks like your server was being hosted on Exaroton. Exaroton has a setting to "optimize" your map's storage. What it does is delete certain region files (terrain/chunk data) to save storage space. This results in odd chunk generation or a change in existing terrain/builds as the region data for those chunks was deleted, and then regenerated as needed when approached by the player using the seed which was used on the server. My theory as to why the save exists as it does in the first place is that there existed region data in the save slot of the pirated version that wasn't deleted, deadskin went to make a new save in that slot, and the game read from the old region data when deadskin traveled to them from his initial spawn. Applying this information, you can curse/fuse any two maps together by adding/overwriting the region files from one map/save into the region folder of another map/save -- at least on newer versions, where I've got knowledge of how Minecraft saves woro
I'm really late to the party but man this is the type of genuine content I've been missing in Minecraft TH-cam Probably one of the best Minecraft youtube sagas i've ever watched

It's funny that modern videos are so short and fast, no one can pay attention to a long video, however this one is a huge success and has an aesthetic that specifically suits long videos, and even though it goes against the current video standard I feel that it worked perfectly well.
This 2 video documentary about an old legendary minecraft mistery is without a joke better than anything that passes in cinemas or elsewhere. Someone at netflix should hire this guy or pay for the rights to put his videos there man it deserves so much more attention. Absolute banger of two videos

Dont mind the people complaining about the video length. I love having these long form videos playing in the background while i play MC. Tiktok brainrot made long form videos impossible for them to sit though
I don't think _all_ the criticism comes from "tiktok brainrot". I regularly watch multi-hour videos (not even in the background, just watching), but the first video came pretty close to losing my interest. Basically some people enjoy the feeling of "uncovering a mystery", for which the long-form format makes sense. Others (like me) just wanna know how something like this can happen on a technical level, and then ~2 hrs is definitely more than required to explain "there was a world-save mixing glitch that happened to someone who had a pirated version of the game (which came with a pre-built world they hadn't seen before)". I think a decent compromise could be to have a ~15 minute "recap" section towards the end of these long-form mystery videos, where the creator can just say "hey if you aren't interested in the process of getting here, you can skip to the explanation here". Perhaps they'd get less engagement on the video, but it does avoid comments complaining about the length.
Dont ever start making 5-20 minute videos. I love this format. Its so nice to put on a long video about a topic im interested in, play some games, and just chill out and learn about something.
This series of videos is so wonderful. I love chill non-sensational Minecraft content made by people that just find the subject interesting. I'm also a sucker for content about old Minecraft lore. I am very much looking forward to future videos
I loved this video. Watched the entirety of it and the last one when it released. In all honesty, I'm glad you make the content hours long and don't over edit it. It just feels so refreshing to see a Minecraft video like this especially considering pretty much all TH-cam is now is just fast paced, highly edited overstimulation brainrot content. This type of video makes me feel almost as if I was back in the old days of Minecraft TH-cam again, where it was simple lets plays and mod reviews with nice humor. Absolute peak 🔥 Also, I really loved how you guys were super chill during the interview and all. Just felt like a real conversation, nothing forced no rushing. Made me really feel like home. The part where you and Skig were going basically insane was hella funny too. Mad respect to you guys and Zappa for solving this mystery. 10/10, I'd love to see more of your videos (and also deadskin's if he decides to makes any after this.) This series of videos were such a nice watch :) Dead was my favorite TH-camr when I first started exploring the internet at about 8 (?) I'm 21 now, in my last year of college, which is insane. No one else made Minecraft videos like him back then. His voice was and still is very calming and the fact that he played as if he was truly in the game was such cool concept to me. His videos honestly made me want to play Minecraft in the first place. The fact that Deadskinmask stopped playing even before release makes it feel like he's some sort of time traveler, who got stuck or suspended in time (Minecraft time), his own time went on enough for him not to remember much of the world, but not enough for him to know anything about Minecraft updates newer that the beta he played in. I agree. This type of long form content is so rare to come by these days. Everyone follows the meta for money or does shorts. I wanna see long videos with interesting topics, I'm tired of shorts or the basic 10 minute video. I don't even care about production quality as long as the content is good.

Hey guys, the main reason the map keeps breaking again and again is because of how Minecraft "population" works, basically, some versions are designed to recreate chunks and replace old data.
This process follows three steps:
1) The game checks for any data that does not match with the "source", aka the seed and current version world generation
2) All blocks and entities are removed from the chunk that's being populated.
🤓
Really though, good explination and understanding of world gen tech, ty
Dead almost make me teary when he tells about his friend who is sick and he will play and stream Minecraft for him/her. As a person with disability myself, who loves games but can't really play due to the illness's complication, watching someone playing the game is the only way I can enjoy the game. Until now, if I want to relax and enjoy my free time, I watch a random dude play Minecraft. I wish your friend is feeling great now Dead. I'm sure you are a hero to your friend.
So what I’m hearing is that this world began with a friend streaming Minecraft to another, and it ended via one friend streaming Minecraft to another
Minecraft reall does bring people together in that weird way
I am SO happy dead talked about the browser version of Minecraft because I used to play that so much (it was not good) and like nobody believes me that it was just a free version on the website because they're all young.
I remember playing a browser version when I first heard about it, but I couldn't find anything about it when I looked for it again more recently and thought it was probably a Minecraft clone. Finally, some vindication.

yay all we have to do now is find the cracked version of minecraft from 14 years ago. considering how recently the 2010 herobrine stream was brought back from the dead, i wouldn't be surprised if we end up finding the creator and the version at some point in the future
The chances are slim, but by looking at the recently found lost media (herobrine stream, backrooms, everyone knows that), im sure it's just a matter of time.

So, bit of an explanation on the save on the server corrupting after sitting idly on the server for a few days untouched:
Based on the icon shown in your server browser at 12:36, it looks like your server was being hosted on Exaroton.
I was wondering about this, like that's a crazy amount of chunks that somehow got regenerated!

The next mistery is going to be how to get all the achivements in minecraft apple tv edition

Absolute peak 🔥
