  • The name of the program is " Frank Zappa rehearsing the yellow shark with Ensemble Modern Frankfurt" where Frank rehearses the Ensemble Modern for a couple of weeks, before the Yellow Shark Concert. Frank has a lot of fun rehearsing with the group and even admits that the group had established a great rapport with him, to a point where things were starting to become absurd!!!

    Zappa had an uncanny ability to mix humour, high art, vulgarity and social comment in such an engaging, informative and inspiring way. True genius is rarely fully realised or understood!

    I can see why the Ensemble Modern liked working with Zappa. Probably the most fun they ever had.

    I'm so very happy for Frank. So happy that he had these moments of sheer happiness and creation!

    I would be reincarnated to this planet just to experience music this great again. I was lucky enough to see him live, he started with 555 - Stunning.

      I'm curious about that. The actual track five-five-FIVE is the guitar solo from Conehead, played in London 1979. I don't know if it ever became a stand-alone song for Frank because he pretty much improvised all his solos.
      That said, I saw Project/Object (featuring Ike Willis) in 2000 or so and they opened with 5-5-5, but it was already established as a Zappa track.

    Oh how wonderful. I'm reminded of his early "bicycle" set on Steve Allen, the Mothers before and with Flo & Eddie, and his method of bringing the most out of the musicians (imagine how this changed these players). Sui generis, FZ.

    Anyone have any idea what is the name of the piece that starts at 14:25?

    • @Zliq71

      These are excerpts from a piece later used as or in "Food Gatehring...". Obviously FZ tried to do something with the Germen "Struwwelpeter" book but changed his idea for the concerts.

      +goingfortheone1 "Probably," so this is just a total throw away guess. Factually, cigarette smoking, a foreign substance of a great variety of contaminants that disrupts many of the body's functions, has been known to be not only the cause of many cancers but it's know to speed up the demise of the smoker. Extensive research has been done on this going back to the time Zappa got sick.

    • @goingfortheone1
      @goingfortheone1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not advocating or defending the use of cigarettes. They obviously are carcinogenic and generally detrimental to ones health. However the comment I responded to was also a total throw away guess. His smoking may or may have not caused his cancer. Guess what? A small survey of the Wikipedia article on prostate cancer does not even list smoking as a risk factor. Perhaps it occurred due to genetic predisposition, lack of exercise or diet? Real life is not cut and dry. There are people who smoke who never get cancer, there are people who don't smoke who get cancer. There is no reason to simply assume that because he smoked he got cancer due to that.
