    Thanks for the video - I'm considering bikepacking Norway at some point and may take a small tent and a hammock so I've got flexibility in where I camp

    Thanks for watching! If you're interested in learning more about my ride through Norway, my book about the trip is available on Amazon: shorturl.at/coqxG It includes notes about about tunnels, ferries, and camping in the wild, and a percentage of royalties is donated to the Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation.

    Late to the party, but a useful and nicely produced video. You were abit unlucky with the weather last summer, Western Norway is rainful, but normally the weather is somewhat better than what you experienced. If you ever considered doing this again in Norway, try starting on the other side of the mountain range, in eastern Norway, were there is a greater chance for drier and warmer summerweather. Still hope you had a nice time!

    • @IslandRides
      @IslandRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although it rained most of the time, there were a few beautiful days towards the end, when I was in Andøya and Senja. Would love to spend some more time in Norway some day.

    Hi. Nice video. I must say you have been very unlucky with the weather. It's not normal with so much rain in June and July (22 out of 27 days). I'm from Norway and I have been cycling around in this country for many years - in all parts of the country, East, West, South and North. When I'm planning a longer cycle trip I prepare for maximum 50% of the days in rainy weather but it is always less.

    • @IslandRides
      @IslandRides  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Johnny. Yeah, it seems I was a bit unlucky with the weather. However, I still loved it there and would like to go back some day.

    Thanks, some great tips and information there. I'm going in July. And well done on the ride, that's a great achievement. Just some feedback on your editing. Your music is too loud over your voice. I found it really difficult to hear you. It would be much better if you cut the music while you are talking to the camera.

    How did you cook in the rain? I'm looking for a tent with a big enough vestibule for cooking when it poors but I'm open for alternatives. Not really into draggin a tarp and setting it up everytime

    • @EspenFrafalne
      @EspenFrafalne 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zpacks "Duplex" is a really nice tent if you can afford it. If not, id probably take a look at the much cheaper "Lunar Solo" tent from SixMoonDesigns. Both tents are very lightweight, and have a decent sized vestibules.

      Thanks Stu! I don’t have the whole route saved anywhere unfortunately, though I logged all the rides on Strava, so you could check them out on there: www.strava.com/athletes/27611038
      Route planning can be tricky in Norway because of all the mountains, fjords, and tunnels, but the tunnel map in the description above is really useful. In certain places, however, you can just follow one road for days, which makes thing pretty easy. E.g., the FV17 from Trondheim to Bodø.

    • @goob5568
      @goob5568 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! You're the first I've come across to pretty much do the whole route I was thinking of. Did you cook your own food along the way?

    • @IslandRides
      @IslandRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goob5568 I didn’t bring a stove with me, so just bought things I could eat raw-lots of bread and cheese, mostly! If you plan on cooking outside, you might also wanna think about bringing a head net as there are often massive hoards of midges!
      What route are you thinking of doing?
