This was super cool...but you forgot to ask Christian, if he had had the choice between the Ripmo and the HD6 for his riding, which one would he pick?
We love Simon because he is the opposite of mediocrity. The guy is pushing what? 60? 65? And he's out there shredding and getting better and better. We all want to be like Simon if we make it that far.
As an AVID amateur rider, Simon's impressions are just what I wanted. I hope you bring him into ALL your bike reviews! Awesome video all around!
Definitely keen to see more like this! As someone who only gets out once a week I really appreciate someone like Simon's perspective.
I built up a full custom Ripmo V1 with my local shop in 2019. Upgraded the rear shock from the DPX2 to the new Float X last summer, and I'm still just in love with it. Shock upgrade made a real difference. The HD6 gives me a bit of a tempt, but I still know the limiting factor in what I'm doing is my own ability. The only time I want a 'bigger' bike is the gnarly DH run stuff, and I mean the chunky rocks and roots, not the big jump lines. Hell a lot of people send the big smooth jumps on DJ bikes! For scale on where I'm speaking from, the biggest line I've gone into full throttle is 36 Chambers at Trestle in CO. That all being said, I think if I wanted to go bigger than the V1 Ripmo, it would need to be a LOT bigger to be worth it. Full DH bike, or the biggest of the big single crown bikes. Spire comes to mind. Is the HD6 in that category? Maybe?
I love my V1 to death too! I'm disappointed with Ibis for not giving riders the option to make the HD6 a 29er. It's exclusively a mullet. I get it - they designed the frame to be a mullet. However, it would be nice to give us the option of adding a 29" wheel to the back if there is a need.
For me the same, Ripmo V1 with excellent part spec.
Started a little bit fun enduro racing this year, want to continue next year and was considering something bigger.
But SB160, which I demoed, is anything but not a do-it-all bike, Pivot Firebird has that strange SB+-standard forcing me to throw away my beloved I9-wheels, HD6 has no 29er-option, and so on and so on.
Ending up with the decision to stay with my Ripmo V1 and working on my riding abilities.
Maybe some day in the future I want to add a real DH bike to my stable.
I am riding bikes and following the industry since 2005 and this is the best bike review ever! Production quality, questions and rider's answers were all top notch and nothing comes even close. Great stuff!

its poppy yet planted, playful and race-y, compliant and stiff, good tracking and very maneuverable, good descender and efficient climber, its fun but also serious.
It's nice having totally different riders review a bike. You have such a unique style of riding so your needs are different. Your reviews are still super helpful, and having a mixed review crew adds to its usefulness.
Agree with the other comments. Simon's perspective + Christian's with his slightly different riding style are great. Hope you guys are coming back for more bike reviews!

Really good video and review, and I am not saying that because my son, Kristian, was in the video. :) I currently have, and race, an enduro/trail-specific bike and a dedicated DH bike that are both 29'ers and I also have an EBike that is set up in Mullet fashion and I really like how that rides. I have been considering selling both the Enduro and DH bikes for more of a "Do All" bike and after watching this review the Ibis HD6 could very well end up being that bike for me. Again, a fantastic video and product review as always. You make product reviews fun to watch. I loved Simon's perspective as well, being an older rider, and would love to ride with him sometime.

Really nice to see you present the platform with two different types of riders. Gives me a great perspective on how it performs!
One thing I haven't seen many people mention about the HD6 is that it's essentially a direct evolution of the previous-generation Pivot Firebird 29 (the model before they switched it to the vertical shock layout). The kinematics are extremely similar, with the Ibis having a little more anti-squat and a slightly less progressive leverage curve, and the HD6 is a just little more modern in the geometry department. I'd be curious to ride those back-to-back.
Agree, it would be a really cool bike if the rear end grew with sizing. I find it inexcusable it does not at this price point

This was a really cool format that was fresh and new. Now, everyone wants to know HD6, SB160, and Firebird. Oh yeah, even-though they are much different bikes, you better throw the Ripmo in there too.
I'm somewhere right between these two guys. Im on an HD5, which i love. If my terrain looked anything like your terrain, i probably wouldn't think twice about pulling the trigger on an HD6.
Just curious what happened to your series on this bike? I was hoping it would culminate with actual comparisons to other similar bikes (Rallon, SB160, etc.) and your final thoughts. Oh well, this one and the travelogue were good fun to watch.
I’d love for you to do a video on bike sizing testing the difference between how the same bike in different sizes affects your experience on the bike.

I really need to demo one of these. After riding Whistler last week on a DH bike, I realized that I want something a LOT burlier than the Ripmo for park and I use one bike for everything. Whistler on the Ripmo would've been terrifying, or more likely I wouldn't have done anything beyond blues haha. Top of the World drop in alone would've been painful on the Ripmo just due to the speeds needed because the rocks in Whistler have no grip.
If you can get your hands on an Arrival too do it, the 152 is like a just slightly bigger Ripmo and 170 is just a tad slacker/longer than the HD6 and they all pedal as well as they descend. The 170 is my go everywhere bike

I so want to be back on a carbon Ibis. Something with more travel than the V4 Ripley I had and also very good at headed up!
I need Simon's thoughts and opinions on the Ripmo, please! Great job on this video, great idea having different levels of skill sharing their experience and opinions on the same bike.
Cool review. I like getting the perspective from all 3 levels of riders. I picked up an HD6 about a month ago as my big bike and I am loving it. Coming from a RipmoV2 it's definitely a more capable bike on the downs. I do a lot of slower New England tech rides as well as more tame XC, so it'd be tricky to make it my one bike, but it's certainly capable of all day efforts.
I definitely ride more like Simon and enjoyed this comparison video. Although now I'm like damn, I wanna get an HD6 😂

Yeti SB140 or Ibis HD6
Completely different bikes. SB140 is a trail bike, ride it everywhere. The HD6 is much bigger and far prefers steep gnarly descents over anything else.

How would you compare the HD6 to the Rallon? Haven't had the opportunity to ride the Rallon, but have a bit of experience with HD6 and am considering both of these for a new bike, in addition to the RM Altitude

Im confused how the super foxy is "huge" it has similar if not more conservative geo (excluding the reach) and travel numbers in line with other enduro bikes. plus the 1230 mil wheelbase on a medium is pretty short compared to most moddern endero bikes

Love this and love the perspectives. I also have a question, you say “big bike” and “really long”many times, yet this bike is only 20mm longer than a Ripmo, is there something else in the bike equation that makes this bike feel significantly different than a Ripmo?
I did notice that, only 20mm more wheelbase and 5mm more reach in size L. For a bike with that travel it's downright small. Given the bit longer wheelbase with same length chainstay it does likely have a longer front center which will make it feel bigger, and means you have to be more on top of staying over the front, which you have to do on the Ripmo anyway. Even the Ripmo will punish you for hanging off the back.

I ride like Christian only I’m fast not slow. And I pop much higher than Jeff of every little lip on the trail. If Jeff doubles something I triple it easily.
I also endo everything including climbing because manuals are to easy.
And Im coasting on the climbs. My i9’s are buzzing like crazy

Its too big unless you live in the bike park or are enduro racing.
A lot of us use the same bike for trail riding and bike park. I've used my Ripmo as my only bike for 3 seasons and it handles most bike park trails fine, but I would not take it to Whistler (I went to whistler last week, but wisely rented a DH bike for it). The HD6 is probably one of the few single crown bikes I'd consider riding in Whistler.
My ripmo rode pretty much every black trail in Whistler super fine
Next "real world" video has to have more than 10 high 5s. Real world riders knuckle bump every time they stop and didn't crash. Fact! Ha!
