Dear Jay thanks for showing this chevelle. I have a 1969 Chevelle SS396 that ive had 45 yrs now. Its Frost Green Metallic. Light green interior with a bench seat. 350 hp 396 .60 over 375 ho solid lifter cam , TRW forged 11to 1 pistons. Quadrajet Carb and M21 4 speed trans, It has 195,000 miles on it , 95,000 on engine rebuild. I had this car in high school, was my drive away car when married in 1990. I brought my twin sons home from hospital in it after they where born. Its one of the Greatest Cars that General Motors Made in 1969. Where putting you First , Puts us First. And I always enjoy driving it and will always keep it.
what a beautiful car. Back in the 90's, my high school girlfriend's dad had a 68 396 Chevelle car in the pasture and he loved to tell me the old street racing stories, and I loved to hear them. I drove a 74 nova and he appreciated that but looked down on the bumper. Those were good times. I still prefer the thin tail lamps of the 68. Both the 74 and the girl were my first. Luckily, i still have the car. Memories!
I remember kids still drag racing on back roads, organized with a party going on the sidelines. Kids just a bit older than me in 1980. The road was called "Hawley road" in Mason county Michigan. I check it out once, (I just got my license and a hand me down, and handed down again car. Older brother first). Just like going to a sporting event, but free. :) I thought the Nova was tough. People sure made them run. I got into dirt bikes instead, (big growth there, like early muscle cars), and picked up a 2007 Mustang with a V-6 in it. I never had a 300-350hp muscle car, so a couple years after obama got elected, I put a roots blower on it, (plus a lot more stuff to get it up to that stuff), modded it more and just had it restored. I like the original old man muscle car better, but it will do. Cervini side pipes, (much more loud than I thought they would be) insure I don't drive it often. :) Looks a bit like like Elinor from the remake.
I owned one which had the 375 hp engine. The original owner either bought it with, or later installed a 4:56 rear. I could easily start out in 2nd gear. I loved it except for the rear end ratio.

Great video and memories. I got my driver's license the year the SS396 came out. In 1969 it was the most popular of the muscle cars, edging out the Roadrunner and outselling the GTO for the first time. Nice to see Jay and Fluffy enjoying this car.
this is an amazingly perfect purchase, the level of some of the expert collectors and afficionados in the world. fluffy is either a lot more knowledgeable about cars, or he received some of the best advice in the world. nobody gets that lucky. what makes things even worse: it is a perfect match for him! he looks so appropriate behind the wheel, he completes the picture.
My cousin bought a brand new 1967 Chevelle SS, with a 396 cubic inch, 375 horse, that you had a hard time taking off at a red light without spinning those little six inch wide, blue line tires. When it rained, you really had a difficult time just MOVING from a stop! I believe that by 1969, that 375 horse motor had so many warranty returns that they began to sell them installed with the 325 horse. This car (although a little 'newer'), brought back some memories.
That's TOTAL baloney....the L78 was a rare but available motor thru the 1970 model year, though after '69 it no longer was a '396', even though Chevy retained '396' on Chevelle SS fenders. In '70 thru '72 the former 396 was bored .030" over to produce 402 cubic inches, & subsequently called the "400 Turbo-Jet".
@@M21L35 No baloney! I'm not saying that the 396 was discontinued, only that Chevy produced the lesser horsepower from the 375 as "stock". I don't know if you could get the 375 or not, but the "production model" were no longer 375 horse. I had a good friend who bought the later model (1969), and his was like this one (in the video), because he couldn't get the "375 horse". He took it to all the drag races around our area (I went down the track a couple of times in it.) I remember the Chevrolet people would have their "agents" at all the major drag races (and even some of the smaller ones), and if you brought one of their big boys to the track, the warrant was VOID! My cousin had his back in the shop on a regular basis. I'm 73 years old and LIVED it.
To me, the '69 Chevelle is the most beautiful of all Chevelles. I'm sort of surprised this example has a bench front seat, and not buckets with a console.
@@slickstretch6391 My 69 had a bench seat also... one day I put amoral on it my girl slid over to my side if she moved away i would make a hard right! there's an old joke two folks were riding in a truck ...man on one side lady on the other...lady said remember when we were young you drove with your arm around me? he said I'm not the one that moved!!!
It amazes me to this day that guys do a full restoration, take it to barrett jackson and didn't bother to sort out the tail light wiring before they take it there. I enjoyed the back up lights on during the whole test drive.
"Heyyyyyyyy Martiiiiiiin !" Now that Fluffy got rid of the beetle, he can show up in front of Martin's house and get respect from the hoons across the street.
Came for the Chevelle…stayed for the comedian banter. Thank you Gabriel for sharing your car with us and thank you both for sharing part of your day with us.
Gabe, Jay, I can attest how awesome those Chevelle SS 396's are. I had one myself back in 1969 in LeMan Blue. Had the big engine, the 375hp one and it was a bearcat for speed. Congratulations, Gabe.
I bought an identical SS when I came home from Nam. Bought it upstate NY for 3450.00 off the floor. Took it straight to Baldwin Chevy on Long Island and had headers, Crane cam,Offenhauser intake and a Holley 780 installed. Then I swapped the shifter for a Hurst. That car was fast, fun and a chicken magnet.
Unlike most other cars, '69 Chevelle steering boxes were 4 turns lock to lock; Most cars are 3. It makes for the smooth steering they're talking about. The downside is trying to correct/countersteer the car when the rear end breaks loose. Sometimes, you literally couldn't spin the wheel back & forth fast enough to keep you out of the ditch. That's what I've heard, anyway..... :) Sparks in Daytona
Haven’t heard of Fluffy before but had to click immediately when I saw the car. Greeting from a fellow Chevelle SS 396 owner from 🇩🇪 Mine is not quite as original, but it’s burgundy (even rarer than garnet red in 1969) and has bucket seats and a console. Chevelles are much less common than e.g. Mustangs over here which is a nice extra bonus. Keep up the good work, Jay!
A pleasantly (somewhat) off-the-cuff episode. Yes, my childhood nabe had a few of these around the block (among other interesting stuff on wheels), and Fluffy's is a fantastic example. Great stand-up banter between them both as well.
In the world of comedy there are a lot of sleaze bags but Gabriel and Jay are both class acts. They are hilarious without being foul. Great episode and love to see the camaraderie.
In my opinion, the styling of the '69 is much nicer than the same generation '70 and later cars. My brother-in-law had a 350 '69 in Chicago and Clevland and the poor thing rusted unbelievably in just 2 or 3 years, but it ran great. I recall clandestinely taking it out for a ride when I was 16 (and it was about 5) and thinking it was very quick.
Congratulations on the fast, original Chevelle SS!…my Mom had a 4 door sedan with the metallic blue. It had a 350 Turbo Hydramatic Transmission with a 350 cubic inch V8 and a large from the factory 2 barrel carburetor. She had those little 78 series tires and when a teenager would be beside her at a stoplight she would accelerate fast on green and jump out ahead! You are going to love that piece of Americana…happy for you!
With trucks I can say "at least it looks good going slow." seeing people's 1000 HP heating up in traffic inspires those thoughts..and now our beloved 'low-horse' classics can focus more on being seen and collecting value.
Hey Jay! That was an excellent episode! I have watched all of your videos at least two times each. This one really stood out. Thanks again for making these! Your friend, mr jommins
Hey Jay, my favorite car in 69' was the 396 Chevelle. Then followed very close by the 69' Mustang Mach 1. I wasn't at driving age in 69' but several years later my first car was a 69 Road Runner. Not sure why I never looked at a 69 Chevelle when ready to buy. Here are some cars I did look at....a 57' Plymouth, a 69' Charger, a 66' Tbird, a 67 Buick Riviera with 3 two barrel carbs stock, just to name a few. I was on a tight budget so my selection was limited.
What an awesome car."All original",including the reverse lights that come on just often enough to keep people off your bumper. If that happened in a modern vehicle, the dash would be all lit up and it wouldn't do over 25mph...Would love to see his collection someday.(hint,hint).
I think back on my childhood - Long Island, NY circa 1978. If a first time teen driver drove down the street with that, you were instantly in the cool crowd. You'd see Cragar SS's on them - deep-dish in the back, with the rear slightly raised up. That throaty sound at start-up brings back many memories. The '69-'72 Chevelle or Camaro was the car of choice and they weren't cheap by the standards of a used car at that time. Maybe they were $1,000, but that was double the price of the typical first car.
Memories, this puts me back in the day in my friend Danny's driveway. His friend pulled up in his black 69 Chevelle just like this one - except fitted out with Crager wheels. I loved that car - such a beast. Danny had a 70 440-Six Pack Dodge Challenger Automatic in green.
That was a really good show. Gabriel really challenged Jay to keep up with the jokes and the barbs. I saw Gabriel's VWs and that was good too. Theses two are great together. I love the 69 Chevelle. It looks amazing on the road.
I love how it’s a two man job to open… AND close the hood😂 Anyways, I really enjoyed how natural Jay was in this episode; please do more impromptu, unrehearsed, unscripted videos!
When I was in High school in 73, i had a 69 GTO 400ci, my buddy had a 69 Chevelle SS 396, we both had HURST 4 speeds, what memories this beautiful Chevelle brings back.

To me, the '69 Chevelle is the most beautiful of all Chevelles. I'm sort of surprised this example has a bench front seat, and not buckets with a console.
Love me a bench seat. Love my girl being able to scoot up next to me.
66, 70 and 71 for me . I don't like the slanted roof line on the side.
Buckets were optional. Same with engine HP. 325, 350, or 375 hp.
Why are you surprised? Why pay extra for a seat where you can't have your girl at your side?
It amazes me to this day that guys do a full restoration, take it to barrett jackson and didn't bother to sort out the tail light wiring before they take it there. I enjoyed the back up lights on during the whole test drive.
"Heyyyyyyyy Martiiiiiiin !" Now that Fluffy got rid of the beetle, he can show up in front of Martin's house and get respect from the hoons across the street.
Came for the Chevelle…stayed for the comedian banter. Thank you Gabriel for sharing your car with us and thank you both for sharing part of your day with us.
Love fluffy, we need to see the other 5 cars Jay 🙏
More than the Chevelle, love Gabriel's spirit...Way to go...Thank you Jay for this ''cheerful" episode...
Jay is the kind of friend who'll take you for a ride in your own car.
Gabe, Jay, I can attest how awesome those Chevelle SS 396's are. I had one myself back in 1969 in LeMan Blue. Had the big engine, the 375hp one and it was a bearcat for speed. Congratulations, Gabe.
I love his nickname! Ewe's not fat, ewe's just FLUFFY! Great video guys...
Fluffy has the best car collection!!
Crazy experience at the auction!! I had the same recently as my first time and walked away with a 1972 Datsun 510 🤩 lol
Easy to store, good mpg collectible car.
The Chevelle sounds fantastic on the video. Imagine how much better it sounds in person.
Love Jay and Fluffy together!!!!
Good for him. Down to earth guy just enjoying life as far as it brings him
The good ol' days of cars!💯
THE L78 396 with 375 HP and 410 Gears IS the hot setup for this car.
always love the Fluffy episodes! He seems such a enjoyable guy
Watch some of Fluffy's material, he's a very fun guy.
Best looking car Chevy ever made, 69 Chevelle is so beautiful
So cool to see an old person like Jay light up like a kid when put in front of a car.
A pleasantly (somewhat) off-the-cuff episode. Yes, my childhood nabe had a few of these around the block (among other interesting stuff on wheels), and Fluffy's is a fantastic example. Great stand-up banter between them both as well.
Beautiful car, the 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS396 is my favourite car in the whole world! It’s just so elegant and perfect.
Very nice car, Fluffy. The paint , the sound.
70-72 are nice but 69 would be my choice.
Nice car Fluff, I watched you buy it on tv and loved your attitude during the auction. Good luck with it brother.
Absolute beauty! As nice and fast as some of the new muscle cars are, they don’t quite catch my eye like the old school ones do.
You two have great chemistry. Y'all should do a movie together, something with cars obviously, maybe remake Smokey and the Bandit, lol.
I’d watch that!
With trucks I can say "at least it looks good going slow." seeing people's 1000 HP heating up in traffic inspires those thoughts..and now our beloved 'low-horse' classics can focus more on being seen and collecting value.
Gabriel said "I left home with 2, and came home with 6". Sounds like the last time I went to Denver with my escort service.
Awesome video! The 69 Chevelle SS 396 is one of my favorites. I had 2 of them in the past and got my first one when I was 17 years old back in 1984.
Back in the days you had to buy a cup holder that locked into the window groove of your door
Yeah, that cheap plastic one, LOL memories
I love when fluffy gets brought on cuz you know its gonna be funny
Great episode especially the roaming conversation in the car. Thanks Jay
4:51… Jay is casually leaning on Fluffys Chevelle. Fluffy hasn’t sat in nor driven it, yet! 🤔😳🤣
Loved the last line... He wants to stop for coffee even though he don't have a cup holder😃
What a beautiful car!
And Gabriel is always fun to see, he's so good on camera, smart, funny obviously... he did good on this one!
Hey Jay! That was an excellent episode! I have watched all of your videos at least two times each. This one really stood out. Thanks again for making these! Your friend, mr jommins
Jay Leno and Fluffy, two awesome car loving comedians!!🙃🙃
Hey Jay, my favorite car in 69' was the 396 Chevelle. Then followed very close by the 69' Mustang Mach 1. I wasn't at driving age in 69' but several years later my first car was a 69 Road Runner. Not sure why I never looked at a 69 Chevelle when ready to buy. Here are some cars I did look at....a 57' Plymouth, a 69' Charger, a 66' Tbird, a 67 Buick Riviera with 3 two barrel carbs stock, just to name a few. I was on a tight budget so my selection was limited.
Great episode!! Very cool car . 69 and 70 were the best years of the Chevelle SS!!
What an awesome car."All original",including the reverse lights that come on just often enough to keep people off your bumper. If that happened in a modern vehicle, the dash would be all lit up and it wouldn't do over 25mph...Would love to see his collection someday.(hint,hint).
Yup i caught that too haha
look through Fluffy"s channel.... I "think" that's where its at.... he did.. a tour of his garage.... showing also the trans am he sold.

Those were the days
