    As I've explained MANY TIMES...I've had 2 strokes in the past 6 years and one of the little things that it has left me with is constantly repeating myself. It's nothing that I have any control over. I wish I could cut it back...but I can't and I don't ever edit my videos. I figure that people can either get past it or fast forward or turn the video off once I start repeating myself. I also talk out of the right side of my mouth only now, am scared to answer a phone or go outside. Is what it is.

    Thanks Scott - you just saved me from taking the pedal steel plunge - with this trick I can get by with my lap steel - tuning her up and giving this a try right away. So simple and effective - yet I never thought of doing it (makes me wonder what else is right in front of my face...). Cheers!

    My pleasure Gary. That little lesson usually sheds a whole new light on things and makes people blow the dust off of the old things and give that a try. Better watch it though....you'll get hooked on it again! lol

    Scott, wow what a great lesson, thank you!! i did not know that you could do what you are showing in the video, a whole new Light on this, thanks. I have a old 50's Supro lap steel i got in a pawn shop 30 years ago, the pickup is very Primitive, But plugged into my Fender Frontman 25R with Boss CS3 it can sound Country or sound like the steel on Jackson Browne's album Running on Empty with some Gain and reverb. Thanks my friend, Cheers ,Gary

    I would like to add, I personally put my thumb on the back side of the neck (closest to me) and make a "squeezing" motion with my hand on the bend. I steady the bar with my pointer and middle finger, and then use my ring finger to bend the string, and my thumb strength against the neck, to help me pull it. By doing that (for me) it naturally brings the string upwards to keep contact on the bar. All I ever knew was b string bends though. Thank you for pointing out the other strings, I can REALLY use that!! Great video. It wasnt rushed and you explained everything very thoroughly. That in itself is much appreciated

    Fred Newell was his best steel player. Fred is still playing with my old band. He played lead guitar on the old TV show on the Nashville Network called "Nashville Now:.

    That's an awesome video scott!/ I never thought about that with volume pedals with the Morley being photoelectric. Great knowledge! Stay Groooooovy my friend.

    Too much fun huh? It's just one of those little "secrets" that people won't tell you for some strange reason. I usually like to teach that thing nearly first thing. Sure, doing the whole slide thing is cool, but to be able to bend as well, that is just the icing on the cake there!
    Play well!
    Scott

    Thanks for the how-to demonstration, but where and when are the bends used in a song?

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey there my man. Yeah, these suckers are WAY too much fun to play. You just plug them into any old guitar amp and you are ready to roll. That's the beauty of it. I'll send a little something over to your inbox and let me know if it works.

    Thanks for that. Really useful tip about lifting. I worked out why I lost the note but thought it was just me. Need to put some practice in on that technique.

    Ahhh this is so cool. I was going over "Lunatic Fringe" by Red Rider last night and I had a purty descent slide solo going with my new Strat, then I watched the video and discovered they do it with a Steel guitar. Duh.

    AHHHHHHHH. Don't you hate it when that happens? lol I kept thinking that all of the old Jackson Browne stuff that was just SOOOOO cool sounding was done on guitar, NOPE! It was done on one of these lap steels. I never knew it until they finally invented the whole computer/Internet/TH-cam thing. Only THEN did I find out. lol

  • @groovydjs
    @groovydjs  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    They really are. They are all kind of cool. Just look up some stuff by Jerry Douglas. Here is a great one, put this in your TH-cam search: Jerry Douglas Solo - Manchester Apollo, 13th July 2012 .
    This is how it's REALLY done. He wins Musician of the year pretty much every year on every country awards show. Just amazing!

  • @shaindaman13

    Yeah same here. But I LOVE being able to just pull up any random song and learn it. Most often times I just go to the source. There are a HELL of a lot of terrible, wrong, no clue having people on here giving lessons that have no business doing it. You're one of the few I trust. I don't agree with everything you say necessarily but you know what you're doing and you know you're shit. I've learned from you for sure. Like even little things. I lowered my pickups down and wa-la, no hum. Thanks.

    Plenty more out there doing steel work than you think - though Red Rider's lead player did plenty of great stuff - check out their Neruda album - the instrumental intro was all lap steel. Also check out 70s Pink Floyd - I think even one of the solos on Money was done on lap steel (in the break when they change to 4/4); David Lindley sidemanned with loads of folks - Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, etc. Even Joe Perry on Aerosmith does some lap steel work. have fun with the Lunatic Fringe - cool

    Hey Scott...GREAT video! What a versatile instrument with the single coil/hummer combo. If I might say tho, we get how you feel about the Reso channels, and their finger pick mentality. The first time you mentioned that, I actually lol'ed. But by the 10th rant it was like, "ALRIGHT ALREADY"! Just sayin'. Keep the vids coming!
