This conversation is long overdue! I am a roaster and served many cups... it always surprised me when a customer would nervously appologize for putting milk or assist in their cup.... enjoy it how you like it! Thanks for this video! 🙌✌️
i'm also trying to enjoy it just black..but teas in all it's vast variety of tastes (sencha, oolongs, china whites, puerhs etc) are so much easier to just brew and enjoy the distinct flavours that pop out...most coffees taste the same to me (am using a zp6) so i'm most likely to go back to a splash of cream and medium roasts.
I like the taste and texture/mouth feel of milk in my coffee. I only use a dash. That's not going to change no matter how tasty the shot is. I've tried to like it black, from many cafes around the country and making my own over the years. :) I haven't had sugar in my coffee for like 15 years though. Each to their own. Coffee is great no matter how it's enjoyed. Coffee! mmmm coffee. 😆 ☕
Same here, but only with the “right” coffees, anything with nutty, creamy, chocolate notes, or coffees with a heavier body I’ll put a dash of cream in.
That was a great conversation. Very helpful points being made about making the transition smoother and enjoying the stuff that you like, whatever it might be :) Thanks for the video to both of you! 😊
It's so funny how 90% of the time you are looking for the Holy Grail of coffee and even so, you're "casual" enough to add more water to your Americano just to fill up that larger mug. I get it and can certainly relate.
Totally agreed - these two do NOT need to be mutually exclusive and too often we act like they do! Sometimes, geek mode is turned to 11! Other times... just give me my coffee lol!
I really loved this. I usually don’t like this type of stuff but you two are awesome together. My wife just doesn’t like hot coffee so that alone would be a step
Yes, yes, yes! You have captured the exact message that will demystify coffee and bring light roasts into consumer demand. Just like so many technologies that are originally harnessed by nerds, techniques and equipment will soon be affordable and widely available enough for the appreciation of light roasts to be added to everything that already exists. This isn't a mere leveling up, it will be a Renaissance. Welcome coffee 2.0 that will be as accepting as the world of alcohol where no one asks you to choose between wine, beer and cocktails; and it's more about what suits the occasion than what you like as a daily driver. Not that you can't have a daily driver either. Imagine the impact this will have on small producers just as it has had in the world of alcohol; but more international in its economic development. Do not ever let your message go!
@@DaddyGotCoffee You are welcome! The last stage, when light roasts begin to trend and newcomers are asking themselves why the coffee world has been focusing on dairy based drinks for it's entirety, will be when roaster's begin to upgrade their roasters. They can't do light roasts. But it was no one's fault because no one had grinders consistent enough and with few enough fines, nor did machines have the ability to bloom. One thing is certain, and it is something to be excited about: one day all of your favourite roasters will be offering light roasts. This is made possible by capable grinders being offered for under $200 and a common sense understanding that you must bloom. For context, in Ottawa all three of our roasters, namely, Equator, Bridgehead, and Happy Goat, do not offer light roasts and its this consumer niche that your message speaks to and will blow up in a mere decade from now. This is the case all over the world where consumers who are interested enough in coffee to buy it freshly roasted or from a local roaster, and who are genuinely lovers of good coffee, but have not been exposed to light roasts yet. This target market is primed and they have money to spend, and there are no obstacles to it doubling in size, and more. At the end of a decade these coffee enthusiasts who are not coffee hobbyists will be buying light roasts from their local roasters and grocery store. Time moves so quickly and this is so exciting to have your head above water and to know with certainty that this is inevitable for coffee professionals. Everyone should have a smile, and with your message their confusion should dissolve into knowledge about the future of coffee. It is so so bright. For reference, think about the creative economy that arose surrounding the development of craft beer and wine and spirits. Just like the traditional drinks made to style, still exist in the alcohol world, and the number of new expressions focused on bringing the region and phenotype and technique to their fullest expressions has exponentially changed who drinks and the meaning it has for producers as well as consumers, so will this happen in the coffee world. Although not the centre of a party as much as alcohol, coffee is more at the centre of daily life, and so will the impact of this change have on the meaning daily life. Don't get me wrong, this advancement by all roasters, big and small and every gradation in between will not compete with elite specialty roasters, in fact it will only generate needed capital and consumer demand for them.
About 6 or 7 years ago I entered the world of specialty coffee, and recently I was able to get my wife to like my coffee, but with milk and some sweetener hahahaha I have a long way to go before she likes black, I may never achieve it, but I keep trying. Very funny video!!
Love hearing the viewpoints Justin & Sara. I used to use cream and sugar, bit now drink my coffee black. I made the change when I did a diet that allowed coffee, but it couldn't have cream or sugar.
I enjoy your videos allot and this is a great topic for couples to try to help everyone enjoy the coffee. I’m curious if you are ever planning on a review of the La Marzocco Mini R we constantly see in the background? I just received mine a couple of months ago and love it. I also just received my BEAST of a grinder the Option O Lagom 01 with 102mm blind burrs. This thing weighs close to my Mini so heavy but it really produces the best tasting coffee/espresso I’ve had to date. It really brings out the flavor profile and clarity of the coffee followed by a nice body and incredible finish. I am a medium to dark roast guy but tried it with a single origin washed and it was outstanding. Keep up the great work I enjoy seeing you and your adorable wife talking about coffee.
Yes! A review is coming! With the bigger ticket items like this I like to give them a good stretch of real world use before reviewing. But that is definitely in the works!
It was hard for me to transition from soy creamer and sugar to black. But when I moved to Japan (again) it was often hard to soy milk (pre 2019) so I was forced to go to no milk. Which lead to me tasting more of the differences. Now I only add sugar to coffee I don’t love but I still need the caffeine.
I just got into coffee about 6 months ago... bought myself a zp6 manual grinder the Timemore 078 (still in box) ...I'm trying to wean off cream and sugar as well but I still love cream and a touch of sweetener in my coffee.
If you’re not planning on using the 078 then I’d love to have it 😁 I’m gonna open a little coffee shop out of my dorm and my grinder right now is just not up to par

Agreed! If you want to go black, that's great! If you wanna add a little something, also great!

Totally agree - enjoy it the way you enjoy it!

Of course!
I love when both of you are together on camera :) So much natural chemistry and love.
We love making these ones:)

Cute coffee video, fun and funny, nicely done. Nice music goes perfectly with this video
How much love goes through this video. Wondeful.
Hahahahaha, we love doing these together!

Thanks so much! Yeah I guess we didn't really go there - great point!

I agree - there are hopful days ahead in the world of specialty coffee! Thank you so much for the encouragement!

I love these videos with Sarah!
It's pretty awesome to have a normie on coffee TH-cam videos too 😅
Let's keep it real, right????

Yup - a lot of people make the change for this reason too!

I drink it all different ways (except without sugar added), because sometimes change is good.
100%!

And there is NOTHING wrong with that:)
Do you know how many relationships are you helping with this tips hehehe. Thank you guys, hopefully we will see you together more often! Cheers
Hahahahahaha! That is the plan! Cheers!
Every thing aside, please can you share the link of your coffee mug
What grinder/burrs do you recommend for Darker Roasts?
I see zerno in the background ...how does that compare to the timemore 078 (not 078S)
I need to get and test an 078 - but it would depend largely on the burr selection. My Z1 is loaded with HU's, which I would not recommend for filter.
A pinch of salt in my cup cuts any bitterness. 👌🏼
@@Jesusismyonething yes something also suggested by James Hoffman esp for over roasted very dark coffees
Yes, we didn't use this trick when we switched but it is a great add!
Once you go black, you become a single mother. 😂
Wow, two comments so far and only 50% of them are racist! Good job, internet people!
And once you become a single mother, you use milk and sugar. The circle of life
