I imagine G&A will likely go with multiple/different drummers, to avoid any appearance of "replacing" Neil (and probably not call themselves Rush, either!)... but Portnoy could definitely be one of them

A lot of people are trolling Geddy for his vocal style. James LaBrie is an excellent singer but the DT Covers prove that Geddy's vox are an integral part of the RUSH sound. By the way... I like the DT covers...
Someone had put a montage of everytime the band mentioned "Rush" in interviews (mostly Portnoy and Petrucci). Unfortunately they took it off :(. Basically it was clips of interviews where they just said; "Rush, Rush!, rush, Rush, RUSH!". It was kinda' funny, but it showed how much the band loved them :).
Wow, that performance of The Camera Eye, what a treat!! And props to the guy in 1981 who recorded the whole thing (I don't believe there were iphones just yet in 1981)!
Sounds like plan. Been saying it since Neil's passing. If you caught the tribute to Taylor Hawkins, Danny Carey kicked ass with Dirk and Lerxst too! It would be great if they did another tour with different drummers throughout. Big shoes to fill though
I saw Dream Theater cover Different Strings. It was Christmas Week '98 at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, PA. It was an Uncovered style show and it was the final tour with Derek Sherinian on keyboards. I wonder if that's the version here? I'm sure they only played it a few times. They also covered La Villa Strangioto at that show, which they ended with a tease of the main riff from Cygnus X-1, if memory serves. Other covers at that show included Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Since I've been Loving You. Their setlists were more free spirited in those days.
Very cool to see this. Ive heard quite a few Rush covers. Never seen the videos. DT took over for my must not miss a tour band. Seen both bands many times. Im about to quit DT shows Im hoping DT gets their sound figured out at Chicago Theater.
I don't care what anyone says, Dream Theater is amazing!! I love both Rush and Dream Theater. Quite honestly I think DT is better than Rush instrumentally but no one can replace the original prog masters.
What happened with "Limelight?" Everything before it was just fine but in the case of "Limelight" we only see about the first 5sec. If the whole song had been omitted I wouldn't have had anything to remark upon because there would've been no problems to see. May I respectfully suggest that you edit the video and remove the few seconds of "Limelight" that are in your otherwise fine vid?
I decided to keep it there because it's a compilation. It's better than nothing. I thought about removing it. I tried searching everywhere for footage of Dream Theater playing Limelight and that's all I can find, I couldn't even find just the audio itself unfortunately :( The guy who recorded just stopped recording after he recorded Take The Time. I don't think he knows Rush www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2010/teatro-diana-guadalajara-mexico-33d4b8c9.html This is the setlist, I tried looking for full footage but I got no luck
I don't get people like that. I love Rush, Dream Theater, techno, prog, pop, disco, funk, noise, and lots of other things. If kids wanna play that game, let 'em, as their raining on the parade of others only keeps their minds and ears closed to broader forms of sound.@@bronxbrothers121
Don't forget this too! th-cam.com/video/M3jrpcwIxd0/w-d-xo.html This may be from the Magna Carta release of The Rush Tribute album "Working Man"? And of course "Cygnus and the Sea Monsters" from Portnoy, the late Sean Malone, Kevin Gilbert & Jason McMaster.
It is the Working Man Tribute version, so not technically DT. The lineup was: MP - Drums, Billy Sheehan - Bass, and the Guitar was either Brendt Allman or James Murphy.
Petrucci really shines here, putting some flash on Lifeson's thoughtfully composed riffs and solos. Necromancer and Bangkok... wheeew... out of this world... Jordan idem on Necro... Sweet memories of buying caress of steel, fly by night, farewell to kings and hemispheres second hand on cold flea markets in Flanders in november when I was 12 (1979)... Trial of tears, Lines in the sand etc... great songs. Idem the later Count of tuscany... reminds me of the Red barchetta...
Hats off to these guys...so nice to see the respect they have for RUSH
Would love to see Portnoy go out with Geddy and Alex!! He is defiantly a student of the professor!!

That's a nice variety of Rush through the years.
12.08 is Baba O'Riley by the Who... ;)
Muito bom a homenagem a essa banda da minha vida. Para sempre Rush!
Necromancer was F'n SICK!!!
The fact that it takes the FIVE guys in DT to cover the THREE members of Rush speaks volumes to the latter's abilities!
Lol?
Xanadu sounds near perfect
that's Mike Mangini for you
Fantastic! Xanadu is particularily excellent. Thanks for compiling.Geddy should join these guys on one of their shows to do vocals!
Love how they snuck in baba O’Riley at 11 minutes 53 seconds.

James LaBrie did Geddy Lee justice. The Camera Eye is one of my fave Rush songs. Dream Theatre nailed it perfectly. AMAZING & INCREDIBLE.
Thanks for posting this. I haven't heard quite a few of these. Jacob's ladder.
Np, I also never heard Different Strings live from Rush but DT did do a good job ngl
Jacob's ladder was in Toronto @ Massey Hall during the Train of Thought tour. Totally blew my mind when they started their encore with this.
I love how well they play YYZ

Damn, that sucks, I did watched an interview where Mike and John talk about Rush songs which is pretty recent.
I was hoping to see Portnoy play with Alex and Geddy at some point, but now that he's back with DT that'll probably never happen
It's in my video Psychosane Exercises 3. It will be back within a few months.
Wow, that performance of The Camera Eye, what a treat!! And props to the guy in 1981 who recorded the whole thing (I don't believe there were iphones just yet in 1981)!
Sounded like LaBrie stepped on a nail during Passage to Bangkok.
Can’t wait for DT to jam to Stevie wonder songs
That would be sick!
Thanks for that!
I was at the show in Toronto where they did Camera Eye. Epic cover!
Awesome!
Yeah, I agree. One guy posted that Dream Theatre RUINED the Rush songs. Can you believe that crap?? They did an AWESOME job.
I didn't know they had also covered Tears before. James did great there!
Insane.
Portnoy pretty much feels like ‘at home’ when performing Rush…
Sounds like plan. Been saying it since Neil's passing. If you caught the tribute to Taylor Hawkins, Danny Carey kicked ass with Dirk and Lerxst too! It would be great if they did another tour with different drummers throughout. Big shoes to fill though

Great work with this!
Thanks man!
Holy Shit 🤩🤩🤩
James LaBrie, great voice btw!
Myung riding the struggle bus for most of YYZ lmao
Not fair for Myung, they turned YYZ into Speed Metal, lol😂lol😂lol😂
Really interesting to hear how the greats differ in their own ways
My favorit is the best 👍👍👍✌️🤘🤘🤘🤘
Rush !!!
such a great bass tone and performance by Myung on Xanadu
Just goes to show you if Dream Theater can barely cover Rush, then how great was Rush? Rest in peace Processor.
Dream theater likes Rush more than Metallica likes Diamond Head. Which is saying A LOT
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
played YYZ too fast ... and myung and pertucci are not ligning up on the main motif
Even live, John Myung's bass is essentially muted. It's sad, and flat-out ridiculous.
I saw 2 DT shows since 2022, unfortunately it's kind of muted. The only concert that I heard loud bass was Suffocation.

I think that if Dream Theater went out and played only rush songs they would put their on material to shame and be more successful in touring.
Smith Laura Martin Donald Martinez Eric
Did James ever sing in key. He sucks. Saw them over 20 times. The only time I saw him somewhat sing in key was on the Images and Words tour.
The instrumentals were the best - no James to f-up an otherwise great cover.
He's ok on some of it, but Bangkok is more or less ridiculous.
Allott of stretched high no notez drop down sorry your ❤the holdup. Love yourself😂..

I wish they'd stick to playing their own songs rather than ruin classic songs.
