      @@KSMotoCafe I welcome some of the changes. I am not fond of the ADV styling for Harley, and I hate the idea of an electric bike that can only go 150 miles that costs $30k. I do like that Harley is finally moving to better motors with more modern design influence. I just want them to keep the Harley lope, which is completely missing in the M8 motor. You have to do way to much to the M8 to make it sound decent (Not great).

    I think the Revolution Max is the future of Harley Davidson. The main problem I had with the VRod engine was the valve design, which required major shop work for periodic adjustments. As a high-mileage touring rider, no-maintenance hydraulic valves are one of the things I love about traditional Harley engines. The RevMax has new high-tech hydraulic valves . I would really like to see Harley put this engine in a touring frame down the road. Of course, we won’t see the true value of these new engines until some riders get on them and start putting real world miles on them.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so as well but it is so hard to predict whether this will put a divide the HD riders (heritage vs new) or bring on new riders from different brands. Either way, you are right, only time and ride/reviews will dictate the Revo Max's destiny. I really hope they are here to stay and doesn't bankrupt the brand.

    • @82106167
      @82106167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I think it will be popular with riders who want adventure bikes, yet never actually take them on any adventures. I frequently see them in Toronto.... big GS Adv’s that have clearly never seen any rough roads or mud. The Pan America will be popular with this crowd due to the HD brand ‘status’. It won’t sell to the traditional HD cruiser lovers, unless they want another HD ride in their garage that offers something different (I know a few of those). I don’t think it will be a choice ride within my long distance community, due to the chain final drive. Too much fussing about with a chain when doing multiple 1000 mile days, but we’re a very small part of the market. Hopefully, some traditional adv riders will pick them up and report on them. Fortunately, Harley has priced them to fit with the competition, unlike the Livewire, so that prospective buyers won’t be trying to justify a huge cost gap for the ‘HD’ name.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@82106167 Yeah, Livewire launch was a huge flop. My local dealership still has a fleet of em and will have a hard time selling them (this is after they dropped it by 10k for promotion sale)! As for your point on these bikes becoming "dentist" bikes is very on point because the 1250GS is definitely that. But whether they get used on or off road, it don't matter as long as they are sold and convinces the HD execs that having new tech in their bikes is a good business move. Are you guys almost there for riding season to begin or is it still too cold/snowy?

    • @82106167
      @82106167 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KSMotoCafe I do think that the Harley execs and techs have always known what needs to be done to move their product into the future. The thin line they’ve been walking for years is how to do that without alienating that giant base of old-school die hards who can’t give up the nostalgia. You can see their various attempts quite plainly... the Buell project, the VRod, the Street line, etc. None of the big efforts worked out, mostly due to timing in my opinion. What has been working, albeit very slowly, is sneaking in the new stuff in drips and drabs while attempting to keep the look and feel that their traditional base wants. Every time they’ve made a significant change, like say going to fuel injection on all models, there’s a time of grumbling from certain parties... but then it’s forgotten and most move on. The current version of my bike (Ultra Classic Limited) has a pile of features that would have infuriated most of their customer base 20 years ago.... but I see several of them in my local HOG chapter today, and my 15 year old bike is considered ‘quaint’ or a ‘classic’. I’m currently prepping both of my bikes for the road (mine and my wife’s Road King Classic), and I anticipate getting back on the road in the usual mid-March timeframe. The bikes are going to be crucial to my mental health this season, as weekend riding is going to be the only escape from the condo I’ve been locked down in for months. I’ve had to cancel all other forms of vacation travel this year.

      @@82106167 I see your point about bringing in technology little by little to please the hardcore fans. Other than Harley, I can't think of another brand loyalty base that would actually get upset with technology. For me, I love the brand and would like to stick with HD for future bikes but only if they entice me with better options at the smaller CCs. I would love to get the Fat Bob as my next upgrade but insuring an 1800cc engine just to get a boost on acceleration and comfort is not worth the change. If they can produce the similar effect by using technology at below 1250cc, then I can get into it because it is in a lower insurance bracket. God I hate insurance so much - especially ones run by the government.
      On another note, damn man, being locked up in a condo for that long would definitely do some damage to mental health. Sorry to hear that. Are you still in the service or retired? I find that going to work helped refresh my mind but some people don't have that option either and I truly feel for them. Especially if they can't do the things they enjoy.

    Man, that’s really cool that they are stepping up those street/sportster bikes but they can’t all have that flat tracker seat on them? That will severely limit their sales with two up not being an option and not everyone is going to be good with that high exhaust setup either. So they need to have a few variations of it but I’m glad to see them making “modern” motorcycles.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is still a chance for those two up options because all those bikes are concepts except for the Pan America. But who knows? Harley might be stepping away from trying to please majority of the fans and go with very niche types of motorcycles. HD showing up with an adventure bike is one example of very niche type of motorcycle but is a welcome one. But I don't know about Harley bringing a sport bike like the streetfighter because I don't think HD can catch up with the Japanese, German, and Italian sport motorcycles fast enough to turn a profit and steal their customers. Hope they stick with cruisers, performance cruisers, and adventure bike. Thanks for your comment!

    Good video buddy ! As a mechanical engineer and long time rider, I am glad to see that HD is finally embracing the 21st century motorcycle technology such as liquid cooling (as a standard feature) , digital clusters, electronically adjustable suspension (Pan America) , etc ....
    The Appointment of a younger CEO is a clear statement of new things go to come. They already realized the traditional style and features from Peter Fonda’s time (Easy rider) is doomed to disappear. The baby boomer generation is dying off and sales are going down faster than their generation sexual drive ! The Gen X all the way to millennials are seeking for technological advancements for reasonable prices. Harley should retire the Sportster name. It's been around in much the same configuration since 1957. I think H-D should come out with a brand new bike based on this Rev Max engine. New look, new engine, new name, and not a replacement bike with the same name.

    • @KSMotoCafe

      well to be fair the Sportster went from Ironhead engine (1957-1985) to Evo (1986-2021), so it wouldn't be too far off making sportster with RevMax on it. Regardless, you are right that it is time for a change. Honda Rebel and Indian Scouts are very successful at stealing new riders from Harley. I was almost swayed too!

    You would think Harley Davidson would learn from their past mistakes like the V-Rod, Street 500 and the Street 750. I serious doubt if Harley made their money back from all the R&D spent on these bikes.
    And here we go again. I seriously think Harley will lose BIG money on the Pan America, Bronx, and the 1250 Custom. Once again I doubt if Harley makes enough on these bikes to make back the money spent on R&D.
    When people world wide think of Harley Davidson they think one of two things, a SPORTSTER, or a BIG TWIN. There is plenty of room for improvement on Harleys current line up. I think Harley is going to LOSE millions on the Pan America, Bronx and Custom 1250, but that's alright they will just raise the price of the bikes that do sell. This might just be the DEATH of Harley Davidson as we know it.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will have to take a look at their financial Q reports in the last 10 years to see if they made their R&D money back. Livewire was the biggest flop I have seen and that might be hard to recover but I think Pan America might be ok for HD. It's got the bells and whistles that BMW and Ducati adventure bike riders like. Will it convince them over? Probably not since both brands also hold pretty good brand loyalty but it might be other HD cruiser owners who want to get into Adventure Bike sector and this might be the push they needed. But I wouldn't invest in HD stock for few months 😅. HD needs answer to Indian Scout and Honda Rebel1100 in the small VTwin sector because sportster evo engine is soon to be obsolete (much like my country's F18 jets...). Thanks for your thoughts! It was interesting read :)

    • @KSMotoCafe

      Just that the name "Custom #" doesn't have a good sound to it - so my guess is that they will just transfer the "Sportster" name and let its legacy live on with a new engine. Apparently even the 2021 models are having a hard time meeting the California emissions standards, which is why as soon as you do DIY stage 1 with VH Fuel Pak, you void your warranty.

    Please move your mouth away from the mic when you are doing voice overs. The popping is annoying.
    The V-Rod was not ahead of it's time. HD ignored criticisms coming from people who didn't buy a V-Rod. HD increased the displacement to try and make up for the increased tyre width.
    HD cancelled the Street Series because they were terrible and overpriced motorcycles. Most manufacturers hide the cost cutting, but on the Street series they didn't care. They thought putting a HD badge on them would make them sell, but most people who looked at the Street Series of motorcycles weren't the idiots HD hoped they would be. I test road a Street Rod and it was a terrible motorcycle wrapped around a decent enough engine. The left mirror fell off before I went 50 feet. When I put my left foot down the left side of the frame was too hot against my leg to be comfortable for more than a few seconds and the stupid exhaust was in the way when I put my right foot down. The brakes were still just as terrible as the Street 750 only there were two discs instead of just the one.
    The Custom 1250 has been removed from the HD site.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert, thanks so much for the detailed feedback. Clear audio recording has been the biggest challenge since I have started this channel and getting feedback from viewers is very important to me so I will try to watch out for the pops in the future (sometimes it is my editing software that adds the pops for some odd reason when I split the video or audio segment).
      As for your history lesson on the VRod - I found it interesting about the reason to increase the displacement due to the fat rear tire - it makes total sense; I also hear from owners of VRod that it is very expensive to find replacement tires due to its unique size.
      Street series... I think HD made the streets to use for their in house motorcycle riding courses and hoped it would sell well in Asia and Europe. I agree that the engine has potential but all the finishes were just poorly put together. I believe the street series were manufactured and assembled in India.
      I am still hopeful a form of Custom 1250 makes it back because there definitely is a market in that displacement with high performance. I am still waiting for Harley to come up with an answer to compete with Indian Scout. The Sportster 1200s are great bikes but can't outperform the Scout. Thanks again for some great discussion points!
