Some Gold and Silver as part of a 'wealth portfolio' is fine and likely to at least break you even over the long term... Plus, if a big crash ever comes you've got something to trade. You can't trade part of your house, or part of your car, but you can always trade a few coins or precious metal bars...
With all 1937 Sovs on the start screen - you suggested collecting instead of metal investing. Being honest, your collection made my so jealous of, not envious of. You made a good tutorial for people to know what one would need to get into this door.
Excellent video! I am slowly adding gold 2.5 gram to 5 gram at a time with the goal to some day trade up, or just purchase outright, a 1 oz gold coin. Get a couple of 1 oz gold coins like a gold eagle, and a Krugerrand, then go back to stacking fractional gold.
great video for us newbies starting off in the serious coin collecting game. ive collected since a young boy, recently in the last few years i have collected many different coins, from silver celtic, to medieval hammered coins, though i really like my victorian soverign and half. i have purchased 2 gold american coins, a 2.5 indian, and a 5 dollar indian. id love to be able to build my collection upto a good standard, i had an accident a few years ago and needed two spine operations so i now have so much time to really study numismatics properly. ive not sold any of my coins, i vowed not to ever sell...however im starting to think down the line of selling some of my ancient coins, like my listers head silver unit, some hammereds and some of my roman silvers to then invest in some more gold. thanks for sharing your knowelege, absolutely brilliant videos.

Nice video. I prefer gold over silver too. Gold isn't necessarily as 'stress-free' as a slab of poured silver though. One 'pitfall' I exprienced; I once ordered some gold pandas from Apmex while I was living oveseas, but even though the plastic sleeve containing the 1 oz Panda ofcourse is completely transparent , customs still had to cut open the plastic sleeve. A broken sleeve in theory makes the coin harder to sell as many potential buyers prefer to buy it in its original sleeve. Some coin dealer in Australia even sell pandas unsleeved for less than the sleeved ones. That raised the silly question, do keep my broken plastic sleeve around as its somehow 'valuable' by perception of others. I chucked it out and put it into airtights, but now thinking if that broken piece of plastic somehow was worth money to protect the premium! Ironic, all the tremendous work from digging it out of the ground to refinery and it comes down to a piece of plastic flap that's worth fractions of a cent. I plan to keep my gold for decades which also makes me think how the plastic sleeve it comes in would age if an un-sleeved Gold Panda is snubbed by the potential buyers, doesnt seem like permanent storage quality. Gold also oxides! or atleast stains, it's true, small red stains can develop over time. It has happened both on my maples and even on 1 oz cast gold bars bought on location from the Perth mint. Perhaps it has something to do with air moisture, no idea. I would love to buy some nuismatic, but what do i do after receiving my expensive graded coin and one of these red dots starts to appear. It would have to be re-graded or treated costing money. Even if we all agree that the red dots on non nuismatic gold doesnt affect the value, that's in theory, in reality when selling time comes up, why would someone be inclinded to buy a red dotted piece of gold when they can just buy a shiny new one ? could be harder to sell unless agree on a lower price. So that's some of the arguments why gold isnt completely stress free! Having said that, I still love Prescious Metals no doubt and this stress is nothing compared to holding the darn bitcoins! haha
@@Numistacker nice to meet you. I have a quick question if you don't mind. I'm looking to make my first panda purchases and I have the years picked but I can't figure out if I should pay up for ms69. The rule with Pandas is to buy them in unmessed up omp. Opening the original packaging loses cash and breaking out loses cash. Better to just collect in as sold and not buy in capsules or flips

Do silver Britannia's from different years have the same variety as gold? I think they have less variety, but I'm not sure. It looks like the really nice designs are only in gold. I was going to collect 1/10 oz gold Britannia's. First I am catching up collecting 2 oz silver Queen's Beasts this month. So can I get a greater variety of Britannia designs collecting 1/10 oz gold ones than 1 oz silver?
There was some design philosophy change at some point in that series where the BU silver design stopped changing. IIRC they moved the rotating design philosophy over to the proof silver coins which had a limited mintage. Are those modern silver proof designs the same as the gold designs? Those might be fun to collect.
Silver is nicknamed the devils metal . But I like gold back in 2003 you could buy an ounce for 300 or less ,spot was $252 I should have backed up the truck . It's hard to decide what to collect modern bullion or early coins I like sov's and pre 1933 U.S. but they are so expensive for better dates. I heard lately they have been melting common dates down into bars , but you're right ,you don't collect them to make money unless you're a dealerBut planning is the biggest problem ,you have to decide quickly what you want to collect or you end up with a lot of stuff you don't want.
It depends . For example: if you want ‘nice gold coins’ with high premiums then yes. But if you want per grams quality for the current spot price you need to invest in bars. It’s harder to make the coins therefore ^^ premiums
Drunken Sailor Supposedly Russia holds some silver as a nation, supposedly the bank JP Morgan and Chase has over 500 Million ounces. I personally don't buy it if spot goes over $20 but I believe it to be an easy way to store wealth.
great points numistacker. I love gold. what's not to love about it? I don't like how silver can develop spots. I have quite a few collectible silver pieces, and I'm very paranoid about them having white spots at some point in the future, which as we know will destroy the collectibility of the coin. There is nothing like gold. The yellow shiny stuff. Wow. Oh, and I do have some cryptos. I've been buying litecoin lately. Just couldn't resist...hoping to strike it rich. Lol. It's play money.
+Bob Arsenault you make some very valid points about Silver. The antique pieces are safer and spot based Silver is safe but proof semi Numi Silver can have risks.
There's good reasons to buy and own both silver and gold and for each person, those reasons will vary based on numerous factors. With silver, I can readily diversify into high premium numismatics....with gold, not so much since the base price is so much higher to begin with. There definitely is a fair argument to make in terms of now being a good time to buy silver since the GSR is around 80. And yes, that's not to say that the GSR can't go and stay higher but I believe when the next significant move in PM's takes place, silver will mover much higher (% wise) than gold....the GSR will drop noticeably during during that time.
1) Good thoughts and advice ! Thanks ! People with a low budget tend to buy fractional gold but the premium goes up substantially ! As much as possible I think the 1oz coins are a better bet. 2) I bought a few platinum coins but I regret. There is nothing "magical" in them like in the yellow gold :-) If platinum price ever goes back up in parity with gold in what is left of my lifetime I would sell them all...
Gold definitely has so nany good properties over silver but silver does have a greater potential imo. I've got some gold coins all fractional and just picked up a 1/10 brit at a good price. Gold i holding for the long term and silver mostly i plan to offload when time is right. Fact there's no vat makes it better than silver where you pay around a 40 / 50% premium. Even fractional gold better value. I do plan to buy bigger pieces as premium even lower. But good deals can be found often on 1/20 oz proofs at cheaper than current bullion releases. As long as its not a panda. Having a limited budget means choices have to be made and in most cases when comes to gold i do see real value in cgt free stuff. As at some point i may look to unload it all and cgt free helps in that scenario.
+rox dude I think you echo my point that Gold is for keeping and Silver for trading. Choices always have to be made but every € £ or $ not spent works to build wealth.
Numistacker definitely spending fake money on real money is best thing i ever did. It don't evaporate over time like paper does and saving that longterm only gonna make you poorer.
My full sov 1871 London mint Goerge back young head the head facing me the right way but when turn the coin the gorge on dragon is upside down is this normal please answer I’m worried this is fake
Numistacker cheers numi. Wish I watched your vids before ordering yesterday, explaining about her hair and the details , mines abit worn more than I’d liked but was cheap at 327£ on such coin better conditions are abit more but I think I wish I paid abit more as it’s for mounting in a sovereign ring and would be better with stronger details on the hair ,
@@moneymania8118 if you buy bullion coins then spots will not matter the spots come from the 8% copper added to the 92% gold = 22 karats. if you buy a coin and never want spotting then only buy 24 karat 99%+ gold...

Historic gold close to spot will never be a mistake. My rule of thumb is to buy quality over quantity, even if it's a decent premium that seem too much. If the series is hot it will sell in the future
Great video and interesting point about rarities vs say "common coins". When is a rarity a rarity? When there aren't very many and those that exist are in collectors hands! Take the 1937 George VI Sovereign for example - rare? Not so much in my book - go to any coin fair and you will always find several for sale - but at a price! I have my own list of rarities based on a lot of research and observation and talking to others but in general I concur that a rarity generally, over time, will outperform. I find Ebay an interesting barometer of the way the market is going - some great discussion points again in the video - gets the grey cells ticking over!
+SovTracker my view was more about levels of interest watching numbers of bids and watches. It seems the more interesting and distinctive a coin is the safer it is to buy. 1937 is interesting because it’s highly desirable without really being rare. Same goes for 1989. Some real rarities are so rare they are on nobody’s radar.
Everybody has their own reasons for what they "invest" in,and noone can say if they're right or wrong, based on their income.Me personally,my last 2 purchases were a 1909 gold 1/2 Sov AU and a 2007 1/10 oz gold eagle(although only bullion,07 was a low mintage year for US gold)
@@Numistacker would you recommend PCGS certified? I am interested in buying a unicorn of Scotland MS67 PCGS coin but as I'm a complete novice, I have no idea if it's worth it. I'm mainly buying for investment...and because I love gold. Still hoping to dig one up at the weekends
Hi, interesting video. I was fortunate to get a gold Leaving the EU coin from the Royal Mint recently, do you think it'll be a good long term investment?
NUMI what's up dude how you been?? Long time no talk but hope all is well.. That story About your life. That's the same story with me I couldn't save a dollar if I tried if it would save my life but I don't look at silver and gold as money really or actually I do but at the right time I Would sell it.. But yeah I would go for Broke and buy the watch's ,And spend all my cash and wonder what happened to it all .. your story is same as mine.. The only difference my friend is you live in England across the little pond and I live in the USA that's it lol.. Hope you're having a good weekend .. Regards Billy..
I think you can 'collect' gold coins without paying large premiums for proofs, sovereigns for example have a great range of years and mints from Canada, Great Britain, India and Australia. If you have enough cash to buy 2 or 3 dates you haven't got at no high premium then you don't have to pay for a high premium for just one less easily available.
harryzero 156 there is a lot on the market that you can buy without paying a collectors premium and Sovereigns are one of those great areas where a huge variety of types and dates are available at Bullion.
If you collect something, and comes an economic crisis, you just must to be prepared to lose the money, that you have spent for your hobby. If you collect gold coins, you have much more chances and you can more easier to get you money back, than if you collect anorter coins or some other stuffs, like banknotes or post stamps.
You should collect gold coins because it’s one of those metals that are always going to go up in value. I have a gold coin worth 155$ and a bunch of silver coins :)
Did I see a Chinese Unicorn? Those and a few select hard to get gold pieces paid well for me a couple of decades ago. As a matter of fact, thanks to Gold Unicorns, Pandas and Dragons for putting my daughter through college.
ej732 that’s my plan if the gold silver ratio ever gets back to historic levels 65:1 or lower than I’ll trade some of it in for gold. If not I’ll hold the silver. We are at 80oz to big one oz of gold right now. Let’s see what happens
When you talk about high value, old enought coin, the composition of the coin is not really important no ? I mean, a copper coin can easely worth several times his weight in gold ( same thing whit a silver and gold coin ) no ? P.s this amazing proof 1911-1937 gold coins... wow! 😍
never, as they say in the crypto community were going to the moon! I say 15000 next year, cryptocurrency is the new thing with my generation, when i ask my friends if they have any gold and silver they call me a old man. A few ppl that I know is into crypto so the growth and progression is there.
I'm trying to collect quarters and get every president And my grandma gets gold coins from work and gives them to me and my brother Right now I have 19 gold coins
I have a Numismatist (Coin Collector) for over 45 years!! I have bought, sold and traded everything coin related... I was into slabbed coins....I had coins slabbed.... My advice would be to stay away from slabbed coins..... They go nowhere in price.... PCGS and NGC have their own price guides.... Which is what they think their coins should be worth... but there not. Also If you have a slabbed coin the price is related to how coins are graded in each grade... and those numbers change.... and so does the price of the coin. STEER CLEAR OF SLABBED COINS....
+Jim Beekman interesting perspective and thanks for the comments. What types of coins did you slab that went nowhere in price compared to the raw coin? Might be worth taking a look at Heritage coin value history for say a 10 year period?
i say buy slab only if u really like the coin and want to ensure u got the coin in a great condition. more for your own collection and not worry too much about price. if it's used as price, BU is best.
I couldnt disagree more. Youre buying a PCGS or NGC coin for the security of knowing the coin is authentic , and for knowing the coin is in fact BU and graded accordingly, Try getting the best price for a raw coin that youre trying to sell as a MS65 or MS66. No buyer will trust that the coin is actually that. When I say buy slabbed coin I am talking about PRE 1933 Gold.

It depends . For example: if you want ‘nice gold coins’ with high premiums then yes. But if you want per grams quality for the current spot price you need to invest in bars. It’s harder to make the coins therefore ^^ premiums
I only see silver pumpers pumping silver (high margin). Nations invest in Gold , China is a good example.
+Coins A-Z the Ratio is a good factor though history is not necessarily a predictor of future
Numi I need your advise an help
very nice video. I liked and subscribed
Thanks so much
I’m incredibly interested in purchasing coins etc. Do i start with just that? Are there’s different types of gold coins with more value?
Depends what country u live in buddy
Numi I understand older coins are minted with upside on the other side
Reverse die axis’s
It is totally normal
Numistacker cheers numi. Wish I watched your vids before ordering yesterday, explaining about her hair and the details , mines abit worn more than I’d liked but was cheap at 327£ on such coin better conditions are abit more but I think I wish I paid abit more as it’s for mounting in a sovereign ring and would be better with stronger details on the hair ,
I just purchased my first gold coin a 1/10 th ounce American Eagle.
+Eric Woody a very good choice
love gold coins
Wishing to buy our kurmangazy gold coin by 7.79 gr. But thinking what about force_major and robbery more.
Tell me about spots on coins. Will it be? What should be taken into account while buying to avoid this rust.
What is your prediction for rise up? Should I buy know while price is failed?¿
@@moneymania8118 if you buy bullion coins then spots will not matter the spots come from the 8% copper added to the 92% gold = 22 karats. if you buy a coin and never want spotting then only buy 24 karat 99%+ gold...
@@aniceguy9876 cool
Hi, I got a 10G golden coin from 1932 from the Netherlands. Should I keep it to make a bit off profit or sell it?
I would like to know if you can locate these Gold Coins for me or if you know where I can get them, Raw with Box & COA. If so that will be Awesome, I need more than 1 on each.

4. 2018 Great Britain 5 oz Gold Proof Britannia x 2
5. 2018 Great Britain 5 oz Gold Proof Britannia x 2
Gold bullion coins can be quasi-numismatic and are a reasonably stable investment 🤗
what about the risk of fake or loaded coins or bullion.?
Historic gold close to spot will never be a mistake. My rule of thumb is to buy quality over quantity, even if it's a decent premium that seem too much. If the series is hot it will sell in the future
+Mariano Wini I think you have the right idea
Very good info!
Just another great video :)
A man after my own heart
If their priced right and can afford them definitely.
COOINZ!
There is a certain comfort in owning gold
What % of your coins are proof to your % of bullion. I currently collect silver proof piedfort’s
I didn't look at it as spending. I like to look at it as trading worthless paper for priceless metal. I'm a trader ; )
I'm looking at buying my first gold coin, I was looking at 1oz bullion coin to start? would you recommend bullion coins?
I would recommend Sammi and Numismatic bullion - Pandas Libertads queens Beasts
@@Numistacker would you recommend PCGS certified? I am interested in buying a unicorn of Scotland MS67 PCGS coin but as I'm a complete novice, I have no idea if it's worth it. I'm mainly buying for investment...and because I love gold. Still hoping to dig one up at the weekends
American Eagle are the best to buy
@@gregcampbell7483 i would never ever buy a modern coin slabbed unless it is graded 70 ! and i would never buy a bullion coin graded . . .
You will only get “spot” so just buy cheapest bars...skip the coins.
Is the 2018, 65th coronation sov worth picking up, in your opinion?
+survivaleconomics it’s not a slam dunk as Mintages are too high
Such a rich retirement for your property is provided.
If you collect something, and comes an economic crisis, you just must to be prepared to lose the money, that you have spent for your hobby. If you collect gold coins, you have much more chances and you can more easier to get you money back, than if you collect anorter coins or some other stuffs, like banknotes or post stamps.
NK coins collector very true words
You should collect gold coins because it’s one of those metals that are always going to go up in value. I have a gold coin worth 155$ and a bunch of silver coins :)
I stack silver, I collect gold. Im more of a collector
GCL Broadview as long as you have SILVER OR GOLD. You got Gods money don’t worry about what ppl say or manipulate on a screen.
can i ask you a few questions via personal message about this ''hobby'' ?
Did I see a Chinese Unicorn? Those and a few select hard to get gold pieces paid well for me a couple of decades ago. As a matter of fact, thanks to Gold Unicorns, Pandas and Dragons for putting my daughter through college.
Never thought of selling my silver for gold.
ej732 that’s my plan if the gold silver ratio ever gets back to historic levels 65:1 or lower than I’ll trade some of it in for gold. If not I’ll hold the silver. We are at 80oz to big one oz of gold right now.
Let’s see what happens
Yes
I have one of the gold coin that you have my one form 1884 But ur one from 1873 wow
Gold is also beautiful and non reactive. But, you mention some very good reasons to collect gold coins.
Thanks very much Salivate.
No you shouldn’t you pay a foundry to make that bar. Buy placer and nuggets raw and find a prospecting shop willing to do spot. Like smart people
Investing in gold coins is a possibility as some coins will rake in more than spot gold because of its a collectible.
+Zero Hour picking great bullion coins and adding value is a fun pastime
I guess now is just holding on for the big roller coaster economic ride
When you talk about high value, old enought coin, the composition of the coin is not really important no ? I mean, a copper coin can easely worth several times his weight in gold ( same thing whit a silver and gold coin ) no ?
P.s this amazing proof 1911-1937 gold coins... wow! 😍
I was into Silver, gold and platinum bullion and coins but the past 2 years im 80% into crypto.
When will you exit Crypto?
never, as they say in the crypto community were going to the moon! I say 15000 next year, cryptocurrency is the new thing with my generation, when i ask my friends if they have any gold and silver they call me a old man. A few ppl that I know is into crypto so the growth and progression is there.

I'm trying to collect quarters and get every president
And my grandma gets gold coins from work and gives them to me and my brother
Right now I have 19 gold coins
I'm a silver bug for life give me a mirror and I'm happy
