- You already have the HP movies and don't need to watch this series. - Current Hollywood has already shown that they don't care about other people's IPs. - Writers already admitted to not reading the books and not caring about the source material. - They'll do what they did to Netflix Witcher, as they do with this, and completely rewrite someone else's work. They thought they could write better than Tolkien, Martin, Riordan, and now they've come for Rowling. And after she ALREADY made the live-action a success.
The ironic thing about Riordan (assuming you're referring to the PJO TV series) is that it was Riordan who decided that he needed to make the original material better and in doing so angered a decent portion of the fanbase.
Don’t forget The Wheel of Time. Brandon Sanderson lobbied so hard to see the integrity of Robert Jordan’s world respected, but the showrunners refused almost all of his offers to help. Let that sink in. The man who FINISHED and SAVED one of the greatest fantasy series of all time offered to help the people adapting to TV, and they refused. And then it sucked. Twice.
Asmon got this wrong. Rowling has final call on literally everything, the guy literally says that in the interview clip. She has an iron clad unprecedented amount of control over the IP because the books were such an incredible success studios we're fighting over the IP; Rowling could essentially name the terms.

Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters and now Harry Potter... I have never considered myself a fan of any of them, so I offer my sincerest condolences that you all that enjoy said franchises have to repeatedly go through this
Eh, fan fiction made 20 years after the original doesn't perturb me that much because I don't watch it. Ghostbusters is still a fantastic movie, the prequels pre-ruined Star Wars for me more just by illustrating that Star Wars really only had 2 particularly good movies out of 6, Trek lost me after DS9, Doctor Who is still that quirky British sci fi show with charmingly bad special effects my dad used to watch on PBS, LOTR is still the same classic trilogy I read as a teenager. Most of the stuff I liked growing up was *original* , not reboots, rehashes, spinoffs, adaptations, etc, and I'm much more inclined to gamble my time on something original that looks good now.
@@treelineresearch3387the tough thing is we are living in an era where the companies that own the rights to these franchises are trying to bury the source material. I can't even get past "I didn't read the books" part. Then again Kamala Harris just came out on the "Call me Daddy" podcast basically saying she doesn't know what the selective service draft is. In 2024 homework is optional.
Hogwarts Legacy is a perfect example of creating new stories while respecting the source material.(Seriously, you literally like feel you're in new Harry Potter movie in that game) What makes this writer bad is that all he has to do is adapt the source material to a TV show - he doesn't even have to create a new story and he has complete access resources and the IP to do it. If this show fails, it will be their own fault.
That game was for the true fans... this show is written by and meant for the "fans' that boycotted, threw tantrums and sent death threats. WB is in deep shit financially, you'd think they would cut this shit out and try to make money.....
I’m starting to believe that these companies are trying to kill all beloved franchises, whether it’s from tv shows and movies to video games on purpose to force whatever crap they want to release afterwards. Narcissism, ego, propaganda and corporate greed are going to kill the arts to funnel us into whatever entertainment slop they want to put out. We truly live in hell.
I agree, I do think it’s largely on purpose. It serves to demoralize a population when you have no heroes to look up to, no hope left. They want to make everything as shallow and vain as they are.
I question the Corporate Greed aspect. It seems like an utter invasion of Corporations, to me. I know(we know) big money has been infiltrated by the Cult. Majority ownership(wife of guy who was former owner?, I forget her name) has invested all her efforts and funds into The Message™️.
I'm 100% with you on that. These companies pay $10s of millions for the IP and then completely destroy and disrespect them. If they just wanted to create slop that nobody wants to see then there is no reason to pay millions to trash beloved IPs!

Every producer and showrunner in Hollywood needs to be fired and banned from moviemaking, and new blood that respects original IPs needs to be brought in. How many fucking times do we have to go through this.
Calling it now, Ron is an Arabic, Hermione is black and lesbian, Harry is a gay half-caste and is confused about his gender. Dumbledore has dreadlocks and comes from the Caribbean. The owls are now all cats. Harry's aunt/uncle/ cousin are super white, blue eyes, bright blond hair and have dreadful teeth.
Ronald D. Moore pitched a show to HBO that would take place in the Harry Potter universe about Aurors. Basically a dark adult cop drama that takes place in the wizard world.
It was likely cancelled and him blacklisted, because the premise wasn't woke or diverse and would not fit the so-called "Modern Audience" which is so vital, but never seems to exist when it needs to.
I'm surprised JK or someone else hasn't attempted the story of James, Lily and the gang while they were at Hogwarts. There is soooooo much to be explored in The Wizarding World but all they've done is some fantastic beast movies (snore!) and what appears to be a failure waiting to happen with the original books.
Nobody who hires for a franchise like this asks questions like, "did you read the books?" Often because they don't view these questions as qualifying. After all, they didn't read the books either.
"JKR isn't a writer, she's a bigot" -Literally their thought process. If you disagree with the, they don't even consider you human. Therefore you have no rights, you have no property, and everything you have and make is now theirs to do with (or corrupt or destroy) as they please (maybe both).
Because companies these days have this wild idea that everything will make them a quick buck (Even if it turns out to be a massive flop), hence why they keep hiring people with no talent because they're cheap...

To be honest, I thought the whole reason for doing a more drawnout TV show was to make a more detailed book accurate version opposed to the amazing but condensed movie version…
It’s one thing for an actor to have not read the books, AKA the second Dumbledore actor, because they still have to read the script. It’s an entirely different thing for the person who is directing the thing to have not read the books.
This already happened with House of the Dragon Season 2. Season 1 was good but Season 2 was so bad and deviated from the source material so far that George R.R Martin wrote a Scathing Blog Post spoiling the next seasons because of how bad their plans are moving forward and talks about how "Toxic" the new changes are to the show if it continues on. George only deleted the blogpost because he was warned not to do this or he'll face legal actions.
It genuinely seems that it's impossible to make any tv show or movie based on any beloved source material without these modern "writers" butchering it.
That's because they hired people who worked on The Acolyte to write it also one of the showrunners, Miguel Sapochnik who'd had a hand in some of the better parts of GOT left after season 1 leaving it to Ryan Condal who only had a three project to his name prior to this and none of them were great.
You know what's hilarious when it comes to GRRM? He will post a blog expressing his contempt for the source material being ignored for HotD, but when fans were expressing our contempt with the direction GoT was taken post season 4, George lambasted us. He may be a talented writer but he's a giant hypocritical piece of you know what. I do agree with everything he wrote in that blog though and am not looking forward to future HotD seasons in the slightest.

Eh, no? There is no more new content but that doesn’t mean the original content is gone forever. Would you call Dark Souls a dead franchise now that FromSoft moves on from it, or Bloodborne a dead game because Sony ignored it and refused to return it to FromSoft? Same deal here. HP is still there for you to read and watch, it’s just that there is no new good content for it and tbf, that is fine. All things are supposed to end. No franchise can go on forever without becoming a hot pile of shit (other than a few like South Park, but those tends to satire contemporary issues so they can be milked nonstop)

"Just adapt and we're banking" "Actually... I think I can do better 🤔" Always worked out. I mean why wouldn't he wanna try? It's not like Harry Potter books sold well or anything...
I don't even hate the idea of a HP tv series. What's insane to me is that the movies ended only like a decade ago. The body is literally still warm and they're already rebooting. It'd be one thing to be a spinoff, but this is legit just a rewrite of the books and everything that happened in the movies.
"making it like the books would be an instant success and everyone would love it but i dont wanna read cause its too hard so im going to make up some random story instead"
“Hey, i have the books of Harry Potter in my hands. Do you see all those books Jk rolling wrote?” *Uses abra kadabra on the books, making them explote.* “I will make it on my own way because i don’t like them and i can do it better.”
Leaked Plot: Daisy Ridley will play Harriet Plotter, the strongest wizard of all time with No training and later she will find out that she’s Voldemorts kid in the end
These are the top selling fiction books of all-time, by a huge margin. Your job is to help adapt them for the screen as faithfully as possible, maybe with some polish/upgrading the dialogue for nostalgic viewers, who are now well into adulthood. Add in some changes the original author wants to make, if there are any, and correcting logical mistakes that don't change the story much. That's basically it.
The severe and utter level of disrespect towards source material these days is insane. MAKE YOUR OWN GOD DAMN STORY WITH AN ORIGINAL UNIVERSE YOU CREATED.
Why not their own magical wizard story call it something else and not use the Franchise Name. Too many writers do that and failed cuz theyre not the original
Because they know that it will bomb hard because no one will care to watch it and so that's why they're trying piggyback off of beloved pre-established ips that will guarantee at least the die hard fans to check out. Even if it does still bomb.
Because no one is interested in their stories by themselves. Velma is a good example of this: by their own admission, they didn't originally want to write a Scooby-Doo entry, but Warner Bros wouldn't consider an original IP when they're already hemorrhaging money (and when Kaling's own record is so lackluster). Gambling on something new is a risk, so companies instead prefer to keep reusing IPs that, in their eyes, have a preexisting fan base to milk for more money because it's safer. They don't recognize that this isn't very effective for long because they don't understand these properties as beloved franchises with a specific vibe dear to millions of people, they view it as a brand: a name and basic aesthetic that can be plastered over any old thing and rake in money.
...at this point I don't care anymore. I love watching companies lose unfathomable amounts of money more than I do caring about IP's. The next generation is starting to do some cool stuff so who cares.
nah, they will not make cool stuff because they can't make cool stuff. we are in the "Third Generation" which everything they made is the opposite of The Hand of Midas
He said all I needed to hear. “The pleasure in writing that is not for me”. Then why is he writing a HP series prequel adaptation of the book to begin with? These people are activists, not passionate creatives. 😢
This really shines a bright beacon on why book/game adaptations keep failing. The directors and head writers keep trying to make it “their own”. They know a 1 to 1 adaptation would be a success. But then it wouldn’t be “theirs” it’s pure ego and narcissism. Unfortunately the entertainment industry has that in abundance.
I like how B.Sanderson explained why he liked how the director of the third harry potter movie adapted it vs the first two(which were more book faithful), which is an unpopular opinion but does make sense to me. With the changes made in the third movie, it defiantly lost some connections to the books, that said with that it allowed it to really lean more into the dark themes that were starting to come out in this part of the series and kept faithful to the spirit of the book. That type of adaptation is respectable, and understandable. You are changing the the way it was delivered, because of the different medium but in order to put across the same type of character/feeling the book would have but might not have hit the same way as on film(you can have 3-4 characters in a room doing exposition in a book, and it be exiting but in a show that would be boring af in most cases). With this type of creator, i don't feel like you will get an adaptation like that. They aren't trying to make changes to better present what the book presented, but to present their own version of things and the intent completely changes the direction/result.
So long as they stay faithful to the theme, major plot points, and the characters, they can deviate on minor plot points and scenes. This is why the Harry Potter movies worked so well, but they did have a few missteps. For instance, I found Dumbledore from movies 4 and 5 to be out-of-character at times. In Goblet of Fire, he would wear his emotions on his sleeve in several scenes, something book Dumbledore would certainly not have done. In Order of the Phoenix, he literally shouts angrily at the students "don't you all have studying to do?!" In what world would book Dumbledore lash out like that at his students?
@@dereka5017I'm still salty about how much of Ron's own virtues and achievements were stripped out and given to Hermione because she was their darling.
same if it sucks oh well I can just watch the movies or read the books again nothing of value is lost for me, but I'm not the one spending millions if not billions on this
Guess what all of the recent successful live action adaptations of animated or book series have had in common? The original author was heavily involved in the creative direction.

Someone who doesn’t like the source, doesn’t like the fans and doesn’t like the author. Let’s make him a writer. What could go wrong?
Isnt JK Rowling involved in the show as an executive producer? How did she let this person get involved? This is bonkers.

👍
