I think she was trying to hold herself to a more intellectual standard because of her profession. But this is what having an animal be a part of your family is like. There's a bond that is always unique to each different animal you have.

The fact Kate is bold enough to ask the question am I being ignorant to him being in pain or unhappy ... shows she knows her dogs best Intrests are at heart, I hope when my purr babies are old I am brave enough to do this xx

Don't you think that someone who has lived with a pet for that long, should know when the animal is in pain or being unhappy? I think so, after living with 7 cats in my life. The way I perceive Kate's rather mixed message, saying that she realizes she has an abnormal attachment to her dog and that she doesn't wish to be ignorant of her dog's pain or unhappiness, is the underlying struggle with letting go of control: letting her dog reach old age, and die.
Kate's dog's collapse might be an anxiety that he picks up from Kate. After all, she tells us that she has observed her dog growing older in the past year. It's likely that her anxiety, due to this "abnormal attachment" is causing this dog's condition. Some pets and I do know this from witnessing, try to live up to their owner's expectations, up to a point.....
Pets absorb, and pick up, the emotional state of their owners. It's what we all know, especially Cesar Milan 😉

@@devonseamoor having worked in vet practice you will be surprised at what owners convince themselves their pet isn't going through, through pure denial. I myself have had the battle of watching my guineapig who was going through renal failure I did everything injections scans fluids, hand feeding every 2 hours, manually helping him to toilet, giving subcutaneous fluids and in the end he passed away on my chest. In hind sight I should of let him go sooner in my arms than let him go through the final day of that. But My cat has been gravely poorly with the cat equivalent of chrones and she's only 2years old and I though I was going to loose her vets told me to put her to sleep I said no I wanted treatment and strict dietary management first and she's happy and healthy now. It's always hit and miss but I would like to think now that I would know when enough is enough. For some people they need to just just be told that their animal is in pain and suffering its hard and you don't want to hear it. But pets can't speak and they hide it so so well.

You will be Tyra ... you will be brave enough. The fact that you even asked that question tells me you will know what's needed and when it's the right time. Always remember, when you give your pets the easy way out, the last things they ever know are the touch of a familiar hand and the sound of a loved voice ... and that's not a bad way to go.

Does one love the dog or love the dog's little boy parts the best? Would a real man 👨love a woman for her cup size or the rest of herself - heart, mind, soul first, and then her body parts? Would he like to be loved for himself first or mabe only for his little boy parts??? Do the dog's "attributes" make the guy more "manly"??What is so powerful or so wonderful about this man that he gets to make rules about her dog?
Thank Goodness, Chris was able think outside the box, yet again, and come up with a solution for the dog's welfare first, the owner's peace of mind next, and way, way, way down the list for the "man's" satisfaction. .
I just hope those implants don't cause any problems in the future, even though I am absolutely certain Chris researched them thoroughly, stuff does happen. Chris would refuse to do anything that isn't totally safe, especially for cosmetic looks.

i just lost my beautiful, black kitty, who was like a soul mate. at 17 he was showing many signs of getting older - it didn’t bother me to clean up after him or keep his nose clear. but then he got just too wobbly and his eyes were half shut. i made an appointment, but called that morning and said, “i just can’t”. made another appointment a couple of days later. he was still eating, loved his treats, but would just sit and stare into space. my vet is the best i’ve ever dealt with. i was able to hold him through the whole thing and was left alone with him for a while. i said good bye to everything we had done together. when i got home, i kept expecting him to be there, saw him wherever their was a dark object, and realized i couldn’t share what i was eating with him. it’s a week today. even though i have two other cats, i miss him so much. my vet just lost her dog, a lab. so she knew exactly where i was. i got very depressed and am just coming out of it. it’s very upsetting, losing a close friend. i still wish he were here. as Kate said, you wish they could live forever. . . 🌷🥀🐈‍⬛ 🐾 🌷

Poor darling I feel your pain. I lost a perfect smart boy ginger at 13 from brain cancer, 6 months after his brain surgery he died. 3 months after he passed, his brother pined himself to death too. 8 years later I still grieve. I have 2 more cats and a dog now. Seems you are the type of person who needs an animal support to take all your love out on. My advice? Get someone from rescue who is very different, so you can console yourself that you are helping an animal in need, and don’t expect everything to be like your previously departed best friend. Bless you through this tough time. Love from Melbourne Australia xx

However, the vets from Bondi seem to go to great length to build relationships with the humans and animals of their practice, each in their own distinct style. It is refreshing to see. I have a particular soft spot for Scott in London, Kate, Chris and Danni. All of their vets seem terrific. I remember a breeder and bording kennel owner who use to say that she got her dogs from Great Britain because the Brits were animal people. Aussis are from British origins, at least in the beginning. Could that be part of theirs ways which relects in their training? Just saying...

I have MS and they’ve been with me 24/7. Especially these past 8 or more years as my disease progressed. Always had them with me. Contrary to a statement you made about having an abnormal attachment to your dog you can’t you just can’t. Do everything you can with him and for him because you will lose all reasoning. I’d end up calling my children and just asking did I give them their best life? Intellectually I know that but my heart isn’t there yet.

The realm of supportive medicine/therapy, whether you're talking chiro, acu or whatever, is shockingly poorly researched even in humans. I know of some cases of veterinary chiropractors administering therapy for racehorses, but it would be interesting to find out whether there's a significant benefit to these types of therapies for animals.

I guess I have an abnormal attachment to him like Kate. He’s developed a bleeding tumor on the joint of his fore leg. It is bleeding and he’s chews it. He now has trouble getting up steps and from a laying to a standing position. He has also become incontinent of stool. This has embarrassed him greatly. It’s time. Monday August 31st is his last day. It’s killing me. My heart is broken. This is the hardest decision I’ve ever made. He also has two elderly Shih tzu sisters who have never known life without him.

Kates worry for her lovely boy is one I absolutely understand. I’ve shared my life with dogs and without question this is always a concern with my elderly dogs. But the one thing I’ve learned is that they’ve always told me when they’re tired and ready to cross the bridge. Two years ago I had to face this very decision with my sweet boy, Hendrix, a lovely ESS who I was blessed to get to have in my life for 15 years. He’d been having the issues many elderly dogs do, complicated by the growth of a inoperable brain tumour that took his sight at 13. He adjusted amazingly well to the loss though, and much to our surprise, our big girl, a lab/great pyr cross decided she was his “seeing eye dog”. She stayed near him, gently guiding him away from obstacles and dangers whenever they’d be out running around on the farm. She watched over him til the very end.
Two days before he crossed he’d been running around happily, his usual cheerful self. Then one morning I went to let the dogs out for their morning wee, and he couldn’t get up - his back end had gone. I was able to get him up and outside, but a little later he refused his breakfast and then turned to look at me…and I knew. There’s a look that they do give us, if we pay attention. I had our vet out to see him, but after checking him over carefully, she agreed with my assessment. She helped him to cross as I cuddled him in my arms on our deck, with his best buddy Pudge laying beside him, out in the sunshine at our farm and surrounded by my husband and our other dogs. He was ready, and his crossing was very peaceful and everything I could have wanted for him.
I still miss him terribly, but at least I know I did my best to give him the best life possible, filled with love and we had lots of fun and adventures together along the way. ❤️

They get a majority of their moisture and nutrients from the prey they eat. Dry food dehydrates them and causes all kinds of health issues like obesity, diabetes, kidney stones, etc.
