The White Out is a party with 115,000 of your best friends, losing your voice, watching your team win (ideally), and creating a literal man made mini earthquake (it measures on the Richter Scale at a local weather station a few miles away). It’s more than an experience. I was at the Halloween White Out in 2012 against Michigan when I was a student there. The atmosphere is unmatched and the participation of the entire stadium is legendary

    A couple of things:
1.) PSU is the abbreviation for Penn State University, and almost everyone at Penn State just calls it PSU.
2.) Final game attendance was counted at over 110,000 people.
3.) I don’t think you noticed, but on the first play of the game, Michigan had to call a timeout. They couldn’t get the snap off because the center couldn’t hear the QB because of all of the noise.
There’s only one White Out, and it is the best atmosphere in college football. Hands down.

As you saw in the vid (idk how much American football you know) Michigan had a false start which means basically the team couldn’t hear them selves and didn’t know when to start. I am currently a Penn State student and am watching this video at 3:15 AM because I cannot sleep due to the excitement. This year's whiteout is tonight at 7:30 EST and without one last year, this year's will be even better. About 500 students including myself have been camping outside of the stadium in tents since Monday in preparation for this game. If you make it to one college football game in your life, I highly recommend The WHITEOUT as being that game. I've been a big fan since earlier this year and have been waiting for some sort of PSU content. This did not disappoint. Keep up the great work and you'll have to look out for some highlights or videos from tonight's game to react to.

In case you weren't aware - that first play (or non-play) was a demonstration of how a home team will use crowd noise during the game.
The crowd is so loud, that the quarterback is having trouble being heard by his own teammates -
since he has a finite time period to start the play, he has just been penalized 5 yards for "delay of game".
The players waving their arms are signaling "LOUDER" to the crowd.
The crowd roar in some stadiums can exceed 100db on the field.

The crowd noise can literally effect the game in American FB. When the home team is on defense the crowd will get extra loud to try and effect verbal communication between the opponents offense. Actually what happened was the stadium playing music through the P.A. until only 7 seconds left on the play clock. You can tell Michigan wasn't even doing anything in terms of normal pre-play reads/call-outs. You can tell as soon as the music stops, the O-line actually got set and the QB started his reads and cadence with the clap. They waited for the music to stop, which is usually done as the team lines up (or until they are back from a media timeout where the players may be lined up well before the refs give the go-ahead to run the clock). Refs should have reset the play clock tbh. Michigan clearly didn't think it was running due to the P.A. still going and it's not allowed to play that deep into it to begin with. Maybe they should have been aware you can argue but the delay of game wasn't due to crowd noise in that moment. QB lifts his leg for the pre-snap cadence well after it was at 0 and right before the whistles. They had no urgency believing they had around 25 seconds after the music stopped as usual.

Then there is the band playing “We are the Boys from Old Florida” while everyone sings a sways to it. That is followed by Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down”. Those two are done at the end of the 3rd quarter.
