- You would expect speedrunning's weirdest category to be some wacky meme like "dank%" in OoT, but there exists a category so inconsistent that the rules change from game to game. This of course is "glitchless". This video hopes to explain why glitchless is speedrunning's weirdest category, but also why it's important to keep it alive.
Runners of all games showcased are listed in the pinned comment.
In hopes of avoiding any confusion; the runs shown for Megaman, SM64, and Celeste are not glitchless, and were used strictly to setup a discussion about speedrunning. The runes featured for Portal, Arkham City, F.E.A.R and Slime Rancher (as well as the rules for Majora's Mask) are all for those respective games glitchless speedrun category

As someone who speedruns an MMO RPG (Wizard101) WizardCity%, any OoB (out of bounds) glitches or clipping is banned in our runs. It's basically a glitchless% but it comes with different strategies & builds that any runner can do. The only thing that separates me from the WR holder is that he's LITERALLY THE GOAT. As someone who fits into this videos category I feel like you described it perfectly. Absolutely good video & I hope the algorithm blows wind into your ship's sails! o7

Nice video. Started running Glitchless for Arkham City 3 months ago I really enjoy it. even doing Arkham Knight as well now. I remember seeing your live didnt realize it was you though. Keep up the good work and you will improve your time like you said with practice and more runs.
Thought this was a really good video! Very into speedrunning myself and totally agree that glitchless is often a super weird category, one of the best examples I thought was in I believe Pokemon Red/Blue where there are like multiple different glitchless categories, and a lot of that is due to a glitch to make text go faster throughout the game, which is allowed in the any% glitchless category, but not glitchless classic, and it just makes the categories so confusing, cause I feel like if you're new and naturally go to a game to speedrun, you'd assume glitchless would be how you would play the game normally basically just with optimal strats and way faster. Idk if there is really a great solution aside from allowing communities to self moderate, cause a lot of the time it is also about making the game fun to run and view as well, and sometimes like in that case of the text just being inherently slower it just seems to needlessly draw out an already rather long run
I came across the Pokémon red and blue thing while I was researching for the video! I barely understand it, so I wasn’t even gonna attempt to explain that whole thing lol. I do agree that self moderation is probably the best though, there’s too many variables. Not really sure if there’s a “fix” to the whole confusion, my suggestion to change the category names is like metaphorical duct tape lol. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Elden Ring also did that, any% unrestricted and any% restricted because it is vastly different than any other game lmao

Yeah the name is weird. I assume it started out truly glitchless and runners for different games just arbitrarily decided that some glitches just didn't hurt the vibe of the run. I think I generally prefer glitchless runs since it still feels like you're watching the relatively "as intended". Any% gets kinda crazy and it's definitely super cool what's possible, but it's barely even the same game in some cases.

Thanks so much! Forgot how goofy Batman vs TMNT was, I enjoyed it a lot. Probably middle-low A tier for me personally. As far as under the red hood goes, I really enjoy the comic but in this rewatch I treated them as different tellings of the Red Hood story and it def made it more enjoyable. DiMaggio had a really performance as the Joker too. Honestly a high A tier movie in retrospect. Thanks for giving me something to do today lol
