Thanks for your comment man It could’ve been so much more 😢 Here’s a list of what it COULD’VE been used for if not abandoned 1. Regional Rail (Metrolinx or New Operator) 2. Intercity Rail (VIA Rail or New Operator) - CP used to have passenger service on this line until 1970 3. Heritage/Tourist Rail (Until 2018 by CANDO Rail) 4. Seasonal Trains (Such as fall colours and/or ski/bike/golf trains) - There are many ski hills/bike trails/golf courses around Orangeville/Caledon 5. Light Rail (Could’ve been operated on the old right of way in Brampton/Mississauga/or extended into neighbouring communities) - Such as the Ottawa O-Trains/London Trams/Waterloo ION There were multiple customers along the line who wanted to use rail, but were each denied by Sandy Brown and town council (the former mayor/responsible for abandonment). Sandy just wanted a quick buck from his real estate buddies and looked for an excuse to abandon the railway (Mr. Brown has an extensive background in real estate and used to work with ReMax) For freight it could’ve been used for: 1. Sand/gravel (lots of sand mines/stone quarries around Caledon) 2. Chemicals (In Orangeville and Brampton) 3. Grocery Stores (Such as using refrigerated boxcars) 4. Plastics (Orangeville) 5. Lumber (lots of sawmills in Caledon) 6. Steel (Brampton) Just to name a few. There were even plans to extend the track to Owen Sound again in 2010 (that was cancelled). Which could’ve brought rail service/tourism/industries to new areas in Ontario. As the GTHA becomes more dense, the need for trains becomes more evident. Peel region/duffrein/Brampton will regret not saving this line very soon!
@hamesjeff if it gets given to being a rail trail or any of those other scurges on society, return to rail will be near impossible. Honeslty, its happened/ing in ottawa right now. Lrt in ottawa . It follows is present route due to over zelipos rail trail operators. Land under rails should never fully be let go EVER. Its horrible. 😢
Honestly Rail Trails are a better solution than building homes on the right of way. The problem is tracks being torn out for trails. My solution for trails is to put them next to the rails instead of on the trackbed. So if the railroad is restored to operation, a trail can coexist with trains. Many trail advocates state that the tracks can be put back in if trains need it again. Problem is that it’s almost impossible to put tracks in again due to cost/asking communities and new infrastructure (grade crossings/signals/rails/ballast)
May the OBRY rest in peace
What a horrible waste. Destruction like this is always regretted.

2025 update: the xing in inglewood has being removed and tracks have being taken out and paved on McLaughlin road
Perhaps I should return 👀
Yes and do a before and after video of last train and now and even some pics of the credit valley explore
Good idea
