great videos about your pond! many thanks for sharing! love the wild life in your pond … so many species… fascinating!
i kept a patio/barrel pond for a year. managed to keep two goldfishes alive through a freezing uk winter ( yep i was that noisy ice digger) …. only to lose them one day, probably some opportunistic heron 😢

Great job on your pond it looks beautiful! What kind of plants do you have on the bottom? Did you say it was algae?

Hot water freezes faster than cold water FYI

Interestingly, hot water can indeed freeze faster than cold water under certain conditions, a phenomenon known as the Mpemba effect. Named after Tanzanian student Erasto Mpemba, who observed it in the 1960s, the effect has puzzled scientists for decades.
Several theories attempt to explain this counterintuitive phenomenon, including differences in evaporation rates, convection currents, and the properties of hydrogen bonding in water. However, the exact reasons remain a topic of scientific debate and research.

Why do you not just keep the water fall on to keep a hole I also live in Wisconsin and planing to make a pond even bigger than the one you have and you have been a life saver on studying

Thanks, Drew. I appreciate that. The main reason I don't keep the waterfall going is because I don't put my pump at the bottom of the pond. It's only 12" or less under the surface, so it would freeze solid and break. Even if that wasn't the case, the end of the hose that empties into the waterfall bowl would probably freeze shut under really cold temps. You know how get it gets around here!

Just curious, how to fish and frogs survive in the wild when ponds freeze over?

Larger body of water, so CO2 doesn't build up to a dangerous level.
