Improvisation 60: The Grey November Returns

Alone one night
Unable to sleep
Two days ago
My birthday was
Friends were there
I had to work
Calls and messages
It was alright
A year ago
You hated me
I find myself now
Lingering in memory
For so long
You were there
But now barely even
A passing remark
You ignore me
At every step
Like I don't exist
No birthday wish
Or hello
I am but a memory
To be forgotten
By you
You have someone else
I am the past
But alas,
Does time spin
Round and round
Day and day
Tomorrow is inevitable
I know I'll be okay.
I linger too long
in reminiscence.
One day
Someday
I'll find
Something
Or someone
And the days
won't be

The melody, or chord ideas, and some thoughts around it, in this improvisation come from an orchestral suite I've been working on the last few months about my latest breakup.
Maybe when it's all done I'll share the whole suite with everyone.
The motif I used here I imagine as a "Sighing" motif. I use three chords with interesting voicing, a Dm9 with E A and D on top in 4ths, a CM7 first inversion, with E in the bass and a C on top giving a dissonance minor 9 interval, leading to a FM7 with E and A on top to continue with the 4ths, in an impressionistic parallel 4ths moment
I haven't thought about it much until now, but I suppose it means it's in Dorian, kind of a poetic thing, hopeful but broken, Dorian is good for that
