Dave innocently says "a guy in Florida." And Rip begins to laugh, thinking Dave has made a joke saying "in other words, every guy in Florida is a backwoodsman, a poacher, a bootlegger, subsistence farmer." But is that what's happening? One of the best American film actors. Very underrated. PAYDAY is one of the best American pictures of the 1970s.

Yes, indeed ! "Payday" is a very underrated independently produced film. I rented it on VHS years ago & was blown away by Mr Torn's performance.
I've never really seen Rip Torn as a young man. Very charismatic, & I'm a fan of that parched dry humour.
It's unreal how he created that character and where he took it on the Larry Sanders Show. What an amazing talent this man was.
