What a great actor-- so funny and menacing. He was best on Larry Sanders, but also great in Defending Your Life and so many other movies through the 70s, 80s and 90s. When i was a kid, i used to get him confused with Rip Taylor, and those of you who remember who Rip Taylor was, that's pretty hilarious. R.I.P.

Watch the beginning again, (00:51) and watch how immediately Rip describes his character in Cross Creek, saying "Well, I play a backwoodsman, a poacher, a bootlegger, a subsistence farmer..." Dave innocently says "a guy in Florida." And Rip begins to laugh, thinking Dave has made a joke saying "in other words, every guy in Florida is a backwoodsman, a poacher, a bootlegger, subsistence farmer." But is that what's happening? Watch it again... (00:51)
