I have a similar approach. Many years ago, I bought a book called: "The Designer's Guide to COLOR COMBINATIONS" by Leslie Carbaga. I knew the author from his "The Fleischer Story" book about classic 30's/40's Animation. And I got the Color Combo book cheap, thru Bud Plant Books. What I like about it, is that all of the color swatches in the book are broken down into the percentages of CMYK, to create each swatch. I don't have time to look up specific numbers in PS. Or, to remember what a "Bumblebutt Yellow" looks like.. The book also is broken down into historical eras. Which is also extremely helpful, when you're trying to emulate the color palettes of a specific time period. Highly Recommended!
Not only the guides are expensive, but they expire! as light and usage deteriorate the color in the guides. You gotta keep buying them over time D: This is a solid alternative, thanks guys.

I still have a gigantic Pantone wall chart from years ago; every damn color all on the same page, from the days when separations were done by hand. This book is a great find.
