    This was amazing, I also love how well designed these were, comic publishers really need to hire you to design hardcovers.

    This was a real treat. I do bookbinding as a hobby, usually making blank books, sometimes from scratch (using cloth, thermoweb paper, and tissue ironed together as the cover sheets), and sometimes from books that I've taken apart (I've got a handful of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books that I've turned into lined paper journals). I've never thought to use this to compile comics. So when I saw that you were putting these together, I was really inspired. That Fireball anthology looks amazing, and I hope it inspires Jamie Hewlett to get someone to anthologize them. Thanks!

    Haven't bound anything indie style like this, but have fallen deep down the rabbit hole with using binderies.
    A lot of the defunct 80s and 90s publishers covered in the Wizard videos are prime candidates. Anything Valiant, Malibu, CrossGen, Milestone, Chaos!, Event, Impact. Elementals and Jonny Quest from Comico. DNAgents, ESPers, Scout from Eclipse. American Flagg, E-Man, Whisper from First. ROM and Micronauts are perfect as titles that are unlikely to ever get properly reprinted due to rights. Big Two obscurities and hidden gems like Priest & Cowan's Steel, Young Heroes in Love, Chronos, Scare Tactics, Terror Inc, Sleepwalker, Power Company. You guys have turned me on to possibilities like Faust.
    Also massive projects that publishers would never commit resources toward completion or uniformity. I recently got back a five volume set of Firestorm covering 1978-1990. My 90s nostalgic neurosis has me working toward a six volume Ghost Rider set covering Mackie's run, which balloons out of control due to crossovers, Marvel Comics Presents arcs, etc.

      Vincent Faust all great suggestions, I definitely want to find a series to collect just to bind in nice hardcover like this

    Jim, great work, seems like a challenging and meticulous process. Paul Pope's THB has never been collected, I think that would make a pretty sweet hardcover collecting THB 1-5 and 6 (a-d)

    Beautiful work, well done. I wrote a little bit of Fireball for Jamie and I’d sure like to see it come around again. I don’t think it’s high on mr H’s agenda though.

    This is awesome! I've been wanting to try binding some of my 90's comics that no one else wants a trade of. I know there are companies you can ship them off too, but that's way too expensive for me. Thanks for doing this, guys!

    Usually, I do this for sketchbooks so I can make weird bindings and covers for them. I have a velvet sketchbook, a furry sketchbook, and one I made out of some old clothes. I should try to make some of these books like this. The idea of scanning some stuff and printing them out at a larger size seems alright. Finally, as the only remaining fan of L.E.G.I.O.N., I can get a bound omnibus!

    Really cool stuff. About 10 years ago I had a book binder create two volumes for me. A collection of Darwyn Cooke's The Spirit stories and the complete run of Leave it to Chance by James Robinson and Paul Smith.

    When you’re done doing all the wizard mags you can bind them together (although I’m not sure that they deserve the treatment)

    I've been looking into getting stuff bound, didn't realize it was this easy to do yourself (and look good to boot). Great picks too, it's criminal that Slash Maraud was never collected in English. Think I'd have to go for binding Wagner and Kennedy's OUTCASTS, Otomo and Nagayasu's MOTHER SARAH, and all of the first TERROR INC volume (for dat Zaffino) to start.

    • @CartoonistKayfabe
      @CartoonistKayfabe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd love to have it as a book. But it doesn't look like it's every going to happen.. I took an entire run of Mike Kaluta's "Carson of Venus" stories that appeared in DC's KORAK - Son Of Tarzan.. And assembled then into a poor man's version of a book, using sheet protectors and a binder, purchased from Staples.. I suspect that there are issues with the Edgar Rice Burrough's estate, that prevent DC from making their own version.

    Hey Jim, for printing the covers and the fireball pages, what sort of scanner printer did you use or would you suggest?

    • @CartoonistKayfabe
      @CartoonistKayfabe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have an EPSON WF-7720 scanner and I used Best Value Copy to print. Here's a link bit.ly/2Dxx4tT . I chose 24# white bond paper.

    • @davideking

      @@CartoonistKayfabe Whoa, is Best Value Copy cheaper than printing local color xerox? I'm out of the loop on pricing that kind of stuff

    • @CartoonistKayfabe
      @CartoonistKayfabe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so. They do very inexpensive 11 x 17 and 13 x 19 poster printing too. The key is to do $125 and get free shipping.
